Best mapping explanation using drone deploy and a Mavic 2 Pro. Thank you for taking the time to explain the process this has helped me tremendously. I have my Part 107 and want to start creating orthomosaic maps since I see the need and demand only increasing in the future. As of right now I’m finding success with aerial stock footage on Adobe.

Great stuff. Also in the Uk just bought an Autel evo pro II v3. Havnt got a GVC yet to fly however i have a 5 day course with a company for piloting various drones. My training will be with professional RAF pilots and will acquire and operations manual to submit to the CAA. Hope to this and other things with the drone

I wish i could get into this. I taught myself to build drones. But my three models and spare parts only encompass 5 inch racing drones. If i had $50k. Id absolutely buy a drone kit for something big and build it with a good camera on a gimble And a sonar and such. Man it sucks it takes money to make money. I could do this so easily and be happy-if it wasnt for this no-money-game restricting me. Lord help me.

You can do quite a lot with DJI drones and Dronelink software. Don't need 50k. 1-5k can get you started if you can't get a loan

Trying to get into the market since last business couldn't survive 2020 pandemic.
Trying to start out reality & move into more things.
QGIS is free and provides a suite of tools to post process these images into accurate, correctly scaled maps and project it to whatever CRS you need. RTK gps setup not necessarily required and more accuate GPS can be obtained using phone and logging over time to eliminate error with post processing.
Such a good video, just downloaded and sent my drone off for some photos of my site with this app. Wish I had this at the start of the project, oh well. Gutted it costs so much, recommend any free apps?

Great video!! Thanks for the comprehensive walk through.. I have one question. If the mission requires 2 or more batteries - Does the drone automatically fly back on low battery and resume exactly where it left off after you swap out the battery with a fresh one? Cheers from Australia
Yes. The mission will resume from the previous location after the battery change. Usually I’ll just fly it back manually though

What about rolling shutter with those small drones? With regards to accuracy of the orthophoto. ?
You mentioned that lower lower altitude will not necessarily increase image fidelity because it lacks unique features to help the software stitch together the whole mosaic. But doesn't the image file include meta data such as x and y coordinates from your rtk setup? Wouldn't the drone be including this information in each picture (I. E. Where in the flight plan it was when a specific photo was taken) to aid the software. I'm not trying to question your logic because I can see why you want higher altitude, I'm just curious about the information included in each export. Thanks!

Great Video however, in this flight example the mission said it would take two batteries. You left out the battery replacement process. Does the drone RTH and land so you can replace the battery, or do you have to manually fly it back? What happens after you replace the battery?
I have an OG Parrot Anafi Thermal. I have been trying to find detailed info on using the route planning for doing this type of work. Anywhere you could point me to? There are places wanting to charge money to train on the Anafi. I just need the info. Also, what software would be the best to train on, for processing, as well as 3D generation, preferably free, and not drone specific. Thanks!

1. when I run out of battery can I change it and proceed a mission?
2. Is it possible to take over with dji go when mission is interrupted? I use the Smart Controller and a Mav2Pro so that'd be great.

Depending on the software, yes and yes. I used Dronelink and it will pause and resume for batteries, and you can tell it to Hover or RTH when the Mission is complete.
Are you able to do larger projects if you have a drone that does not allow hotswapping batteries? Is that something that is handled through the pause function?
Yes. The mission will resume after the battery is swapped

How do you get deliverables to construction sites or share the map in general? The processing power needed to even view is much higher than most companies are equipped with, and software offerings for these features are lackluster

Is it better to have drone fly against the wind and with the wind when mapping? Or is it better to setup drone to fly with wind hitting it from the side? Curious which is better for quality images.
This is honestly a pretty common sense thing, just think about it for a second. If the wind was from the side and had any variance in it, the drone is going to be constantly fighting to stay on the correct path. If the wind is in the flight direction then the drone may have some minor trouble with speed control but its going to be able to stay on its path. See how we used critical thinking to come up with the answer on our own using common sense?
@@datalorian this response is both unwarranted and only partially correct. Unless your entire flight path for a mapping is in a single direction then i doubt it matters very much as its always going to be fighting it one way or another unless there is absolutely no wind. Hence the back and forth pathing of the autonomous flight.

Drone deploy does not support either of the drones you listed. At least not yet.
In regards to photogrammetry how does the Anafi AI compare to Skydio 2+?
Both are bad for photogrammetry. A dji mini 2 would be cheaper and do a better job than those
Hi, Would a VERY GOOD condition INSPIRE 1 and at the Moment I have a ZENMUSE 3X on it have a chance to play in this league? I Can always upgrade the Cam. Next Monday the 8th (Next week I test for my 107 ), I don't have much stick time on this "Goonie Bird" LOL yet, but I did fly a "Mapping" Mission of my Commuity. It was my first "Mission " per se. Using DJI GO software. For me who's only flown My Mavic Mini, and I have a few others. So this is all new to me. Just wondering if I'm even in the ball park with what I have. Thanks and any help is appreciatted. Steve. Ps, I have 5 (FIVE) Batteries for it. So I think I'd be prepared to fly any size mission.

What are the major differences, and benefits, and or disadvantages of creating a 2D ortho, vs a 3D model?
2D ortho relies on less data and is generally easier to generate. Reliable 3D models sometimes require post-processing to clean up noise around detailed objects (reception towers, footings of buildings, canopies etc).
benefits include volume calculations, shadow projections, better visualisation.
negatives are usually requires much more post-processing work and need for more checks

I have sort of a silly question: I come from a Filmmaker's background, been flying drones for a few years, and recently got my FAA Cert for a commercial job I was hired for a couple of months ago, also a "filmmaking" job. But yesterday I got a last-minute call for a small construction site needing a Drone Pilot; nothing as complicated as in your video, just documenting on video the installation of a small Modular home using a crane. What I'd like to know is, when I deliver this edited footage to the Construction company, do I add music to it? Or do they prefer just the video with no music? I'm so use to the creative side of things, I've never done an industrial project like this...

Seems like you answered your own question there.
Most of the technology breakthroughs are going to improve productivity and be utilized by an existing construction foreman. I believe your question is related to a random contractor performing these tasks and that is highly unlikely to be happening. Mainly because it’s a function that will be utilized by someone in site and reduce their overall work burden and improve efficiency of the site.

Isn't this work being replaced with autonomous drones ( AI ) ? How confident are you now, a year later from this video, that this type of work will still be in demand for drone pilots?
Can you have say 4 drones operating at once on the same map, say you are in the middle and doing it quicker?
Adds way to much overhead to pay for each job. That’s like having to dog a pool , but instead of getting one excavator for a days job you get 6 so they all just need to take like 10 buckets full and leave in 30 mins. A lot wrong with that logistically

Typically photogrammetry means a three dimensional image. You might want to change your title.

I had the same thought, but ultimately it depends on the quantity and frequency you use it. If you can make 20k or more a month it's not an issue, but for a beginner with few clients sure it's expensive

It is, and there’s no option to pay per map, you have to buy monthly or annual. Completely economically infeasible unless you’re using it constantly.

If you have a commercial job, use a commercial drone. The software he’s speaking to along is like $1300/yr on a subscription lol pan. Gotta pay to play in the commercial world.
