Felix Cervantes fx9 is the only camera with real phase detection AF instead of a contrast based system in the Sony lineup. Fs5 and fs7 autofocus is really really unusable, especially for fast paced movement.

Thank you for picking up my question. I was short on words on Instagram response. I was basically asking that if any other Canon Cinema Cameras from C series has Dual Pixel AF. And in c500ii does AF work in every resolution and frame rates(usual ones, like 120fps or 4k@60 or any other)
The original C100 and C300 had updates for DPAF, then started selling with DPAF already on the box. The C100 Mark II and C300 Mark II had DPAF from the get go, and later the C300 Mark II had an update for Face Detection. The C200, C700, C700FF and the new C500 Mark II all have DPAF from the box, with Face Detection. So, in a nutshell: No DPAF: - C500 - C700 GS DPAF: - C100 (after update) - C100 Mark II - C300 (after update) DPAF with face tracking: - C200 - C300 Mark II (after update) - C500 Mark II - C700 - C700FF Please notice that the DPAF technology only works with EF mount. That's why the C700 GS (Global Shutter) does not have DPAF, nor does the Dual Pixel Focus Guide work with PL or non-EF lenses.
Thanks for answering my questions, man! I do love the idea of being able to shoot everything in 10bit ProRes and then matching is straight with 10bit ProRes out of something like the EOSr or upcoming R5 as a B cam and lightening up the file sizes as well as having some cheaper camera options to pair it with. Good stuff 👌🏼

Very cool! The C500 mkii is the camera I was wishing the C200 was going to be a couple of years ago... mainly for the 10-bit and EIS. Wasn't expecting it to be full-frame though. I ended up getting the EVA1 because it had great colours, EF-mount, Vlog, 10-bit, EIS... but no DPAF. Might need to hire out the C500 mkii for an upcoming project to see how it works in the wild 😀

Can you please compare the C200 XFAVC with the C500 XFAVC? I personally could not see a significant enough change to justify an upgrade (if you look at the numbers one would expect more) - other than it being more malleable in post. Get the lighting right and I feel you have a very close call. Would love to see you do this compare, a ton of C200 users would enjoy this and possible be surprised! Thanks for being an inspiration for me.

If the C500ii had 100fps full frame in any bit rate - I'd have it. I shoot loads of different projects, but for sports... 100fps is something I need. Which is really depressing cause it has everything else I want.

Congrats on the upgrade! I have the c200, and while that 10 bit codec is tempting, I can't justify it for my work. Hell, the 8 bit codec is more than fine for my clients web deliveries.

I got a silly question: I have a Gemini and a GH5s as B-cam however slowly started it to notice few (corporate) clients not wanting to shoot with Red and go instead with a FS7 or equivalent and the GH5 is too low end. Do you think the C500 mkII its close to the Gemini as far as roll off, DR and skin tone? sometimes clients get overwhelmed with R3d even tho u can shoot ProRes .
Can u make a review on the Ursa G2? There's not many out there making a review on that camera. Film Riot is using that but somehow they never post a review about it.
Hey, Armando. Is there a reason you picked this camera over the C300 Mkii? It seems like the reason you switched was the 10-bit 4k and the C300 mkii has that as well but at a cheaper price.
C300 MKII isn’t Full Frame and also doesn’t record internal RAW. It’s also bigger and heavier and also doesn’t have as robust codecs as the C500 MKII. Modularity is also a major factor too, literally as we speak we’re filming a short film (Follow me on Instagram) and being able to switch to PL in 1 minute is clutch!
i want to see the image difference between EOS R + atomos vs C500 mII that would be an interesting video relatively cheap vs expensive cinema camera :)
I saw a B&H review of the C500 MKll recently where the reviewer claims that the camera can only record 4K xf-avc 10 bit codec in a super 35 crop. Doesn't tally with other reviews I've watched - .can you confirm that 4K xf-avc 10 bit recording is available with FF mode?

Dude, a quick google search shows you what Canon cameras have DPAF.. I literally typed "What canon cameras have dpaf", and it's listed.

Just got mine. Love it. The gripe is the expansion eu-v1 doesn't network browser remote. Returned eu- v1 kept camera . Got wireless worked perfect.

The C500 Mark II does not shoot in ProRes. It's XF-AVC.
Right. The 10bit is what I’m more interested in. I don’t mind transcoding but have the ability to shoot everything in 10 bit would be great

Internal floating 32-bit audio would be amazing. Maybe they can partner with a company like Zoom to get that done for future cameras.

Yup I agree fx9 has really good af and better dynamic range. It will be getting 16bit 6k raw(maybe Prores raw hq) update in future.

Great camera no doubt but the form factor looks weird,i prefer the URSA G2 body type for shoulder shooting.
If you think this form factor is weird, then you also think the form factor of the Alexa Mini, RED, Sony Venice, Kenefinity and Panavision is weird

RAW is not for editing it is an acquisition codec. You would transcode to a more computer friendly codec or use proxies.
