I noticed Armando uses a Zeiss Milvus lens on his C500. Is the 1.4 aperture (T1.6?) of the Milvus a huge benefit over, say, the T2,1 of the CP.3 Zeiss lenses, or the choice of Milvus only comes down to price?

As I wrote on Armando's channel (and I own one of these), we need Canon to offer us another expansion pack. This pack would have a Thunderbolt-3 port on it, and a plastic clip and/or Velco strap. Slide external TBolt-3 SSD into aforementioned clip/strap, connect up the TBolt-3 cable, and now you have 2TB of super-fast storage for $700, vs a quarter of that for $600. Seems like a deal to me.
I've given my feedback to the Canon Cine Support guys and they agreed it's a good idea. I have no idea if they'll forward that feedback on to the product guys at Canon or not. I'll bet that if Canon were to offer this, every C500 Mk II owner would buy it.

The log is fantastic, it is super easy to make it look good. Especially when the dp had a chance to light a bit... I would pick this camera any day over any Red. Like always, amazing review!! Thank you so much. I love the thoroughness of your videos. It really shows you put a lot of time in them. Really appreciate it.
After watching your video, I thought the points you marked on the internal RAW was interesting. It is definitely nice to record RAW internally, but the fact it makes it much expensive is something else to consider. Speaking of which, do you think it will be possible to compare the functionality, workflow, and value proposition of some of the popular compressed RAW codecs out there? I am thinking Prores Raw, BRAW, and Canon's cinema light RAW would be amazing since the first two are becoming more and more popular with the developments from Atomos and Blackmagic while the last will be likely supported in the upcoming R5. I don't know. Thought it could be interesting.
Anyway, no matter what, hope you keep giving us great stuff like this one.

great review. Been using the C200 for several years. I'm definitely not a pro and found that my skillset of color correction and lighting are more the weak links than the camera itself. Have no idea how you gained such mastery of cameras, exposure, and all the nuances between platforms etc. I can't imagine changing settings in my camera let alone platforms lol

  • @juliancroot

You had the nerdy switch set to turbo boost for this one... even as a C200 owner I had to rewind a couple of times to really catch all the detail!
Its odd that they chose not to include a mains power adapter in the box when the C200 comes with one.
    Very nicely done.

Great review! I think there's going to be a lot of competition in the full frame raw space in the next twelve months. Personally I'm hoping that Blackmagic releases a full frame Pocket 6K or 8K that can do up to 60p full width raw, even if it's a cinemascope crop vertically. THAT would really shake up the industry in competition with the Mavo 8K, Canon R5 and other upcoming full frame cameras.

I have to say that because Canon is applying a different way to approach ISO than BM it's not worst but best. When you work at 12,800 ISO it's a delight to see how nice colors you can get considering the iso, how clean the image is, and how usable it actually is. No other camera i know can give you so nice colors in this iso, and you can tune it in DaVinci Resolve at 10 and 12 bit. with little color grading and noise reduction you can cut from iso 800 to 12,800 with no problem. Anyway, i agree it's the best compact cine camera out there

Great review, and so many good details to consider. With all that said, if I personally had this camera, I don't think I'd use it, simply because it's too "much" for what I do.
Obviously in a production environment, it shines, as expected. So my question is, are you going to be using this camera in your workflow? If so, how is it making what you do better (if it is)?

Though it's nice to mention that CF express part B can feature cards up to 4 TB 🙂 So it's also a consideration in this price range that a card that costs 1,800 dollar can last for many many hours of recording high quality without swapping cards or worrying about it
