    I've been driving a truck for about 25 years and I am currently in training for a roll-off company. The Old timer who's training me told me the easiest way to line up the rig with the canister is to look at the top lip of the canister and draw an imaginary straight line down to the edge of my fender but I'm driving an old Mack. It may be different with your set up. He's very old school he does not want me using the backup camera or even my right side mirror when I'm on final approach. I don't know if I agree with his philosophy but knows more than I'll ever know so...... there's that.
    Be Safe. 🤘🏼

      everyone has their own way of lining up. with a trailer it is honestly hard to get lined up perfectly straight without being a bit crooked if that makes sense. i think you just have to find what works for you

      @@Lifes_Apprentice Yeah I know what you mean. Backing up a trailer brings in a whole other set of challenges.

      It's best to learn to line it up with the mirrors as you never know when that's all you have to work with. I am a trained trainer btw. I use the camera with the cross hair on the box hook sometimes, but usually I just line up the lowest edge of the dumpster with the edge of the fender when I'm looking in the mirror unless it's a narrow box. Of course you wrote this two years ago so you might not even be driving rolloff now.

      Definitely Roll off, you get out and move around... plus stretch. A pick up is 2 trips out of the cab. and then emptying is 2 more trips out. Lots of chances to get straightened out and vertical

    • @daviegore9990
      @daviegore9990 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on how long each box is on the truck & how long the dump line is.. About 1hr to 1.25hr seems to be my average. I can get 6 full swap outs (bring a empty & take the full Box) in 8 hr day. No extra boxes and then every box becomes a rinse & return. those days suck.
      You can also make the day more productive by starting earlier. Get going before the 7:30 traffic ties everything up

    Thanks for the video. Question: have you or anybody you know ever flipped 1 of the containers when you 1st started because you didn’t hook it right? How’s the money in this type of business if you’re working for a company? Are there night shifts as well?

    • @Lifes_Apprentice
      @Lifes_Apprentice  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have never heard of anyone flipping a container but I am sure it has happened. There is pretty good money in this business. around here our dump is only open till 3pm so working a night shift would be hard unless you had your own transfer station

    • @alonzoweaver7948
      @alonzoweaver7948 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to really be WAY off to flip a container. If anything, it will be off the rails and tilted drastically, is the worse I've seen. But still in the rails, just not correctly. Almost never seen someone flip a container. Honestly, if you went as far as to.l let the container fall completely off, you must be either blind or have eye issues and shouldn't be driving to begin with, or you're completely not looking at the Can as you pull. You have numerous amount of time to react before you "flip" a Can
