    Hi guys, and sorry for the massive delay on this video, I finally got a chance to fit the 59 mm shocks to the Traxxas TRX 4M defender
    In this video, I will be removing the flex blades which made the body roll and fork twist unbearable out on the trail, so I decided to give the 59 mm shocks, a try and see how they would do.
    I was quite impressed with the outcome, but there is still a bit of a twist when climbing steep inclines.
    But that I will have to address in another video.
    Also, I only fitted them to the rear axle as I don’t want any more droop on the front axle.
    I hope you all enjoy this video, and hopefully very soon. There will be another one.
    So stay tuned by subscribing and smashing the bell, so you don’t miss our latest content.
    Please don’t forget to like as it really helps my small channel, get out there.
    Thank you, everyone very much for your patience and I’ll see you all in the next one.
    all the items in this video will purchased from Injora.com

      They are definitely awesome 4x4s, and one of my favorite looking off-roaders!! I'm just not a big fan of the engines they use!!
      I have driven and worked on many of these over my life, and no they have quite a bit of body movement went off roading.

    I have the 59mm shocks front and rear and havent ran into any serious binding issues with them up front. Love em so far. They perform so much better than stock. Also, I'm running the brass wheels from injora and they are HEAVY. They really help keep it planted but you may want to consider getting some flubber stuffers if you're going that route. I had so much sidewall folding with them it was almost undriveable and killed the performance until I got the flubs. They also add a lot of realism, since thats what youre going for. Gives the tires more of an "aired down" look without them folding completely to the rim and they perform beautifully. Nice rig though keep up the good work!

    I have them on one of my M's.. What i did i went with a heavier oil then what Injora recommends. I went with 45wt and the light springs. I also added some spring load to the drivers side which also helped. One other thing i did was add the low gear set which also helped!!!

    • @rcfungames
      @rcfungames  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for the info bro, but the oil only slows down the motion of the shock doesn't prevent it from moving ounder load, and also takes away from the realistic movement of the suspension by putting a thicker oil.
      I could remove the items I've got on top of the vehicle but then it isn't a scale Trail rig! And that is what I am building here.
      If you watch the video I have the spring load to maximum and it actually performed really well the way it's set up right now.
      But I don't like having the spring loaded so I'm going to give it a try by putting two springs in the back on one side.

      I believe the low gear set was my second upgrade on the vehicle, which meanwhile I've already changed to metal reduction gear set.
      Definitely one of the most important upgrades.
      As I really didn't like the way it was set up with the gearing from factory.

      Hi bro 👋
      I bought some cable leaders from my fishing shop, and made them to size, then just made a little hole on the front and put a screw through to hold it.

      @rcfungames  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Personally off the running 59s on the defender I found that putting 53 mm shocks in the front and 59 in the back is actually the best setup for good crawling capability but at the same time still keeping that realistic look.
      The front geometry on these rigs just don't work well with the 59 mm shocks.
      It's taking me a while to get a good set up on these little rigs but once you figure it out it is quite easy to try and counter the torque twist and also get plenty of flex.

    • @rcfungames
      @rcfungames  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Bro that's awesome you'll Defender is going to be a beast!
      I will warn you in advance that the flex blades are not really worth it and cause more problems than performance gains!
      If you really want to run them only fit them on the back axle.
      The front axles geometry is too short to allow for that amount of travel! And that's besides the steering link catching the flex blades and the bottom of the shocks!
      And also doesn't allow for full compression on the front suspension due to the links touching each other and the Servo mount.
      And make sure you put on the harder springs that are provided with the 59 mm shocks or else you're going to have lots of torque twist!

      That's awesome!! welcome to the traxxas TRX4M world 😁
      Are you running the original shocks in the back?
      If you running the 53mm shocks from Injora?! a good fix is using your original springs on the Injora shocks.
      Look carefully when you turn your wheels where they are catching and see if you can trim a little bit with a nail cutter if it's the body, and if it's the original bumper you can also trim a little bit with a nail clipper.

    Can you explain why you think adding weight to the wheels will reduce twist?

    • @rcfungames
      @rcfungames  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's definitely top heavy with all the extra accessories!
      The brush rims won't really help for the torque twist besides keeping the wheels planted to the ground, instead of always lifting one front tire when climbing.
      The brass rims in my opinion will actually make the torque twist ( body lean ) even worse as it takes more power to rotate the wheels causing the body to fall over more as it needs more power to move the wheels.
      These vehicles really do have a problem with torque twist!!

      Yes when I fitted the protection slider plate I did bend it to try and mold it closer to the axle.
      It performs okay with them on but you do lose a bit of clearance.
      All I did was fit them and then gently manipulate them to fit closer to the axle by tapping with a rubber mallet, and a pair of pliers with a bit of leather stuck to the jaws to not damage the plate.

    So even though these shocks are much longer than stock, you can still maintain the stock right height look becasue of the light weight oil and no preload when capping? Or is that long shock still stock ride height because of an adjusted shock tower mount?

    • @rcfungames
      @rcfungames  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes even though the shocks are longer than the original shocks you can still maintain the original ride height! The springs on the shocks are very soft and Capping them with no preload is kind of like running a droop setup.
      As capping it with the shock completely compressed it creates a negative pressure which wants to pull it in like a droop setup.
      The only thing I find with these 59 mm shocks is that the torque twist gets even worse 😔
      I have tried multiple things to get rid of the torque twist, even fitting 2 springs on the back shocks to try and prevent it still didn't work.
      I have now removed 59 mm shocks and gone back for the 53mm soon I will do a video and see if that help reduce the torque twist again.
      I am also having trouble with torque twist due to the fact that I've got a lot of weight on my body to make it look like a trail truck.
      I hope this answers your question!

    Nice vid, thanks. Didn't the 59 shock have less droop on the rear than the blades? So why not run them up front?

    • @rcfungames
      @rcfungames  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you Craig, yes they had less droop than having the flex blades, but it was still too much.
      Overall it still does better hill climbs and overall performance with the 53mm shocks.
      And it also looked very unrealistic with the 59mm
      In my opinion The sweet Spot for performance is the 53 mm shocks.
      And if you're trying to build it more scale, I would say 53 is definitely the way to go.

      And you did the right choice!
      I ended up going back to 53 mm shocks, on the defender and Bronco, as they just work better.
      Looks way more realistic than the 59mm when crawling.
      And if you like me, and you end up adding lots of accessories, to the body, the 59 mm shocks, are just too much, and caused too much torque twist and body lean!

    yea flex blades will do that but using them with shorter shocks is better for performance you just need to use a limit strap so it doesnt unload too much on you on climbs looks like you are more scale tho so i get it

    • @rcfungames
      @rcfungames  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly because I built it as a scale trail Rig, so the flex blades just took away the realistic look.
      I will probably be using them on my tarantula builds.

      @@rcfungames if you never used them id argue the front ones are worse to run cause they unload on climbs sending the front end up in the air but then again i didnt try the front with a limit strap that would potentially take care of that issue and still get it to pivot for dropping when flexed

      I would say if you're still struggling with a torque twist there is something too tight on the system which is causing it to be under load so it keeps pushing you over as if you were trying to climb a hill.
