- In this video i will show you how to replace a CV Axle on a 2005 Chevy Silverado. I believe this should work on all Silverado's that are this style between years 2000-2006. If you have any questions please feel free to leave them in the comments section down below!

The 5 bolts on the one end are 57 ft lbs.
The 35mm nut is 177ft lbs.
Actually OEM specs are 155lbs for axle nut..

Is it a 35mm or 36mm he states 36mm in video? Also what is the size of the inside bolts thread pitch and length mine have all fallen out

Great video, I've worked in too many shops to not point out that the best practice is to hold down the brakes until you get a good star pattern rotation at least two times while the tire is in the air, then lay it down gently so you can rotate the nuts to the proper torque specification. In addition, it's okay to use anti-sieze on any of these nuts so they will not strip during torque rotations. Drive 50 miles or so, then check your lugs again for loosening.

Why not break axle bolt loose with wheel and tire on the ground take center cap off and dust cover

I just did my hub assembly and the best way I figured out was to put your tire back on finger tight and drop it till the tire is on the ground so the weight of the truck holds the wheel in place
3 lug nuts you don't need em all on for that

You can keep the hub from spinning by jamming a screwdriver into the fins(vents) on the edge of the rotor then let that rest on the brake caliper.

Old axle nut is 35mm, The new nut in box is 36mm.. And the nuts are nut interchangeable...Just FYI.. Good Video btw
Use a screwdriver in the vents of your rotor and spin until it's stopped by the caliper bracket, then you won't have to risk stripping your wheel studs

I recommend leaving the tire on when you take the axle nut off. The rotor won't spin on you.

Love this video. Other than the jack stands I probably would’ve put some anti seize on the axle splines if you ever have take it off you’ll thank yourself.
If you don't have an extra person to hold the brake for you, can you just shift the transfer case to 4WD to lock everything in place with only one wheel off the ground at a time?
Hmm ive never tried that so i cant say for sure but it sounds like it should work. Thats a really good idea!

Brake everything loose with the vehicle weight & wheel on ground...then jack up
Thats a very good idea! The only one that might be an issue is the axle nut because it is supposed to have a cover over it but if a guy could get the cover off without taking off the rim then that would definitely be the way to go👍🏼 heck it would still probably be worth doing it solo to take off the rim and put it back on just because it can be pretty annoying trying to hold it from turning. I appreciate the advice

I see you don’t have a axle nut dust cover so you wouldn’t have needed to take wheel off. Then you could’ve used tire to hold wheel in place.

You can change the axle without removing the wheel, but jacked up you can spin the axle to remove the bolts tho. It's easy as pie.
What size are the bolts on the rear? I’m having troubles finding them my truck when I bought it didn’t come with any on one side as it was missing the cb axle
Is there torque specs at all for the axle nut and axle bolts?
What I always do to hold the hub from spinning is take a smaller screwdriver and stick it through the top of the brake caliper and into one of the slots on the top of the rotor and it will hold it for you no need to mash the brakes or lock it in 4x4

Did you had to put some locktread on the bolts of the cv axle
First vid I've seen where you didnt remove the sway bar links . Every other vid has that step but I thought it was unnecessary.
Don’t forget to check the tire 🛞 nuts after awhile or they can come loose and tire fall off. Been doing this for years forgot once to check them after week and had that happen had noob moment then 😂😂😂😂

@@chrisyo295 heck yea man mines an 05 too! The bilstein ones are pretty cool because they are a little bit longer than the regular ones so that if your truck has a couple inches of lift in the front they will still work
What about the jack stand? There is no way I would do this job with out a stand. Crazy

Was there a squeezing sound when driving?
I just did this on my 2003 and it was very easy to remove and replace but now my ABS light goes on and off all the time. Why would this happen. Trucks drives great on new axle but unsure why the new axle caused this and how to fix???
Other than yhe tear in the boot, did you notice something wrong with the driving

Pro tip: Put a screwdriver through the caliper and into rotor slots to hold the hub still
Ummm.. hmmm. Better "pro" tip... remove the tyre, then the dust cap, and while the wheel is on the ground you loosen the centre nut. No risk of bending a screwdriver jammed in the rotor, or damaging any other part like the backing plate, brake lines etc... if the screwdriver slips. Or in this case bending the threads on the wheel studs by wedging something between the studs !! Yikes !!

This will also work on Yukon Denalis , escalades , 4wd Tahoe/suburban, gmc sierra 4wd(Z71)
How the inside bolts tide down ft/lb ???
Instead of having someone hold the brakes use the power of the truck to losen the axle nut. Put socket on and gently move forward if doing passengers side and reverse if doing driver's side.

someone help me...my inner cv joint is missing 2 bolts and when I rotate the wheel in a circle i can hear the grinding coming from inside of where it connects. what do I need??
Differential service. Could be bearings.

If you put it 4x4, the hub won't move when removing the axle nut
Screw driver in the rotor slots will stop it from rotating.

Do those boots come pre-greased?
With all of the safety precautions ignored you still managed to complete your job with your health intact. Watch out for “Murphy” though. He will catch up on you eventually if you keep ignoring common safety practices. Also besides using proper torque on your fasteners you should grease the splines on the end of the axle shaft before installing. Other than that, good job.

Just loosen the nut while it's on the ground dont risk messing up the threads on your wheel bearing
So I put my new CV axle in and tightened it all down test drove started wobbling bad and felt like my break was on
Some don't need the dust shield. If its bent it didn't fit.

A new cv axle doesn’t come with the washer , my old axle didn’t have a washer

Nope, unfortunately not, learned this the hard way as a kid. The wheel bearing will just fall apart without atleast the end of the shaft in there with the main hub nut on it to hold it together
