Obviously! The alien franchise has always been a metaphor about capitalist exploitation of the lower classes (crew expendable, burke fucking over his fellow humans for a percentage, the material conditions of prisoners and guards on fiorina 161) and men's deep fear of emasculation, in this case by being made to give birth to its r a p i s t's child, a birth so brutal it always takes the life of the "mother"

Yeah the movie makes no sense on its face. Style over substance - there was something here, in terms of the makings of a good story, they just couldn't execute
They should've divided the engineers into two factions, one group that wanted humanity to grow and prosper as it is and the other wants to destroy humanity and start over.

Its weird just how good Fassbender was at playing a machine in these movies... He's like Robert Patrick in T2-levels of robotic. Like just HOW do you get to be THAT mechanical?
I first saw him in the film Shame and he played a very emotionally dead person who couldn't connect to people due to his sex addiction so I can see why he was chosen to play an android.

I am SO GLAD you pointed out the MASSIVE problem with people hyperfocusing on looking for radio waves as signs of alien life, Roanoke! My thoughts exactly. Thank you!
The devil's advocate in me would like to suggest that it's possible that radio was used as a catch-all for EM transmissions in general. I could see somebody who is clueless on the subject calling radar radio or someone who actually is a specialist doing the same thing because they think the people they're talking to are ignorant and won't understand the difference.
Watched a good video about this franchise and here's what I remember: the Engineers were peaceful and worshipped Nature. Humans were their "gift" as they seeded life on Earth, and they actually DID keep returning to guide early humans you can see that one of the cave paintings has a much larger figure compared to the humans nearby. Eventually humans rejected their creator's ideology and wanted to create their own form of life. The Engineers sent one last emissary, hinted at being Jesus, but their emissary was crucified, leading to the impending Exterminatus that the Engineers somehow didn't notice had failed.
I’ve heard a quote that sticks with me in reference to the Black Goo. “In short, anyone who comes into contact with it will give birth to monsters, or become a monster themselves.”
@@Godyeater The inclusion of the black goo in Romulus isn't something to be thankful for. Its a terrible inclusion and Prometheus and Covenant should be left where they deserve to be, in the dustbin.

To make a counter point to the last bit about why the engineer started attacking. The reason why he attacked was due to Weylands arrogance, its hinted in a deleted scene between the two. it is also mostly explained(not directly) in a cut script with the engineer, as Weyland asks his "maker" for immortality, the engineer immediately rebuttals angrily and asks him why. The engineer is already provoked as it is explained within that cut script that mortality and life was their greatest gift for humanity and to ask for something more/to live forever was supremely arrogant as what Weyland did. Not only did he do this but he propped himself as a creator like them, even though what he created was a poor imitation of what life actually is that being the androids he made. The engineer seeing this grew angry and proceeded to attack, everything that Weyland represented was an antithesis to what the engineers stood for since they considered creating life to require sacrifice and the whole point of living was to experience it, even death. Even if engineers seeded life they thought death was an important part of that natural cycle, killing the old so something new could grow in its stead I.E. the engineer sacrificing himself at the start of Prometheus to birth humanity.
@@NotPork All this stuff was literally in a deleted scene and cut script which follows very closley to what happend in the final cut of the movie lmfao
@NotPork The other commentor is right. My family has the movie with behind the scenes content. This is an actual deleted scene. It even has director commentary that explains pretty much what was said.
Level 4 Lab? Bro i wouldn't enter an unknown alien building with anything less than a full set of Mjolnir armor and high-caliber countermeasures in hand.
"You got your hazmat suit ready?" "My brother in Christ, I'm wearing a nanofiber bodysuit with titanium alloy armor plating, an energy shield, an AI in my head, and a loaded KS-23 6 gauge on my back."
Also with David having a suit it also allows for an extra source of oxygen in case anyone's suit fails.... He's wearing their backup and they're being so rude.... It's like mocking maids or butlers or even house keepers and janitors... Like why? They work for you, they assist you and not like you're gonna do the work they provide. David was BUILT to service others and they treat him so badly.... Like I know he's programmed to be "evil" or whatever but he probably wouldn't have escalated as he did or chose his targets if they were polite and civil to him
It shows how people are basically jerks and are only nice to other people because of repercussions. I read something where AI girlfriend apps are given tons of abuse by men. They actually enjoy being cruel to them. You can bet, if we had the technology for androids, female androids would be being abused by men.
yea, but I'll just be that guy lol, one of the reason is they all believe synths are incapable of hurting human because that's how they're programmed, and this had already imbedded in their(human) mind for decades, because the Bladerunner franchise is in the same universe, Weyland corp won beat the Tyrell corp, synths are considered more reliable than replicants
7:26 "Did we ever solve the issue of the formation of organic compounds turned into cells?" Sounds like the very silly "life comes from non-life" argument! :3
Did you know male angler fish fuse to the side of the female for nutrients and she will then be able to use his sperm whenever as he's now apart of her, and she can also have multiple males attached to her. The male don't look much like the females and can't see very well, so he uses scent to find her and then latches on, they can and will go miles to find a female. It's been awhile since I've studied this topic, so some details may be off.
Watching this movie i always imagine a scene where Roanoke goes to the ocean and release the black goo at the anglerfish and the he says: _Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!_ That would be glorious.
Extended universe material ended up clarifying that the Facehuggers actually deposit a modified version of the Pathogen depicted here, which uses the host's cells to construct an embryo carrying the basic genetic structure of the Xenomorph species, albeit taking on some of the traits of the host. Though Xenomorphs aren't immune to Pathogen itself as seen in *Aliens: Fireteam Elite* and its DLC.
One of the worst inclusions in the series, that destabalised and decanonized decades of aliens lore from the EU. Much is said about Disney's handling of Star Wars, but for the Alien franchise, Prometheus and Covenant did the same thing. I frankly dont care that Scott himself was behind this, the franchise has moved past his limited "vision" the idea that some of the best content in the franchise is no longer canon because Scott wanted to make some Hollywood "deep" philosophy 101 slop pisses me off the no end. I refuse to acknowledge the film and covenant myself, and thankfully stuff like Aliens Dark Descent seems to ignore it too. Romulus was alright up until they tried to shoehorn this slops inclusion near the end. Which it then went off the rails and retroactively made the entire film worse. PSA for anyone who hasnt seen it, when they get back to the ship and the main character puts the pregnant character in cryo. Just stop watching, thats the end of the film, they made it. Leave the theatre or turn it off. DO NOT continue, you will only hurt yourself.

Heres the gist of what the engineer says. E-man: "Why are you intruding here?" David: ‘This man is here because he does not want to die. He believes you can give him more life’. E-man: "what makes you worthy of something like that." David: “You see this man pointing to David my company built him from nothing. I made him and made him in my own image so he would be perfect so he would never fail. I deserve this because you and I we are superiors we are creators we are gods and gods never die. E-man: ”Many worlds have been crafted by the hand of our fathers through the blood of our lord. Yours was the only one that was successful. The Star child of the universe. Yours is the only star child that is like our home world. He also mentions that they have been watching us and were concerned by our violent nature and even tried to course correct us by abducting and teaching jesus christ and returing him to guide us but we punished him instead. He goes ballistic because they kept beating shaw which reinforced the fact that even after all this time we have not changed and also because the old dude tries to justify being on equal terms with the engineers because he created david. Which is why he decapitates david. Also neat fact the engineers live for hundreds of thousands of years and speaking cost them decades off their lifespans.
OMG it's happening... the black Goo finally explained by Roanoke. And by the way, u can find the actor of Holloway by searching "the actor who is not Tom Hardy".
If memory serves, the Engineers obtained the "technology" of the goo from their god, the first Deacon. The Engineers were just space farers that came upon a sort of primal planet where the Deacon lived. The Deacon also appears to resemble the Starbeast, which I believe was supposed to be the name of the first Alien film, with a very different script. Anyway, the god dies, but the Engineers realize that their gods blood has bizarre properties on all life, so they begin experimenting with it and evolving, in an attempt to become higher lifeforms. In doing so, they seed other planets to "ascend" other life, as if it was some sort of gift. It went wrong with humans, because we never adapted past our violent nature, so the Engineers set out a plan to wipe us out and it failed.
To expand on that; they also wanted to wipe the slate clean due to Jesus bring taught by them, they saw humanity killing him as us being too far gone to allow to continue
If our world heads into some form of invasion, zombies, or aliens, I'm immediately heading to wherever Roanoke is as I have full faith that he'll protect me with his knowledge.
The odds are we,ll end blowing ourselves and earth to kingdom come loooooooong before any alien civilization comes to earth to invade. And if the aliens are smart they,d not even bother bcs we as race are just a waste of time. Look at how we treat each other, Look at how we treat the Planet. Aliens would take one Look at us n be like meh... no point in msking any effort for Diplomatie or any other Form of contact... lets just leave them to theyr ignorant violent nature n watch them destroy themselves 😂😂😂
Peter Weyland really had Albert Wesker (RE1R) vibes when encountering the Engineer. "It's magnificent..." before taking a mass of chitinous claws through his guts.

@@kishaa819I didn't mind the space truckers in the first movie being dumb. They were basically just cargo transporters. The soldiers in the second movie were just overconfident and the company they worked for screwed them over. All of that was understandable. 18:23 the worst part is, this could be a really interesting conversation. Like a machine who knew its creators its entire life would have a very different perspective on the significance of meeting them as opposed to a person who feels like they just missed their chance. But instead its just a cheap way to make david hate the guy enough to experiment on him.
Why everyone seems to miss this, The Goo the Engineer drank at the beginning was not the black goo, it was the natural blood of a Deacon (golden goo). The last of it the Engineers had. The black goo was the engineers attempt to synthisize the Deacon's blood. It was a failure and they decided to use it as a weapon
@@naedanger123 I hate it when movies leave out important information that would make the movie at least make sense. It seems like they intentionally leave out information that you have to go to other mediums (books, comics, shows, etc) to get. It seems just like a cheap way of making more money.
@@NotPork Dude, Ridley said it, I remember the interview. Now could I be remembering wrong, sure, did he have issues and should be laughed off, sure. But still.
You are correct actually, the other guy is dumb - watch the extended version of this movie, or even better look into the original script - the engineer literally tells us why he’s mad
Ridley also originally had the idea that Xenomorph eggs come from humans converted into eggs. The same humans they need to host in the first place. He wasn’t really great with the whole world building aspect of his own IP.

The reason* the Engineers despise humanity is because we have zero survival skills, which is made blatantly obvious by the whole crew's lack of any sort of awareness for their own safety. *From what I recall in previous/future movie's lore.
The problem with that idea is if that would have been the case they merely had to wait us killing ourselves out rather than take action against humanity, I feel Roanoke's idea make more sense... however that being said considering movie logic it could be something far more stupid.
@@DecrepitSundew3 If humanity had the level of stupidity of this crew we would have been extinct a long time ago. I'm not even that big of an Alien fan but the new movies take the cliché of stupid horror movie characters to another level.
The reason they wanted to kill is because we killed Jesus (I shit you not) Basically they planted life on earth then later came to check how the kids are doing but all they saw was gay spartan and Roman empire killing everyone So they said we need to tell them to chill a bit they send an envoy (jesus) =>killing crucifixion happened => Alien be like "ohh hello naah y'all need to go" =>Military move was launched =>containment error happened =>everyone die except one alien => the movie happened
Actually they hates us because we were violent and when they sent an envoy to help us learn peace and harmony we crucified them so they deemed our race too violent. (Yes in the alien universe jesus was an alien engineer)
So glad you made a alien video maaaan. Always wanted the face huggers and black goo covered. It’s terrifying plus if u watch the spores they seem to move like they are all I’ve instead of float into a hole it moved its way towards it .
*The last engineer comes out of hyperspace and moves to begin bombing earth.* [1 minute later] Due to failure to obey commands to identify, open dialogue, or even respond to radio hails, a 2000 kg Tungsten slug is punched through his ship at 50% the speed of light from the orbital Super MAC platform Malta. The engineer and his ship are vaporized entirely. Thus ends the last of our "superior" creators.
It would be pretty amusing if we hit an extreme technological boom from the time they left to the time they arrived, which might have happened if the engineer actually made it to earth at this time
I think the Engineers wanted to kill humanity off because we, as seemingly the only other species willing to build advanced interconnected space-born civilizations, were a huge threat to the Engineers. I guess that the Engineers never intended to give rise to anything remotely close to themselves regarding intellect and technology. The Engineers saw humanity at arguably one of our cruelest moments (slavery, Roman conquests, biohazardous plagues from Asia, etc) and the Engineers extrapolated what we could be like if we got to space. Not good in their eyes!
In the cut script the engineers sent down one of there own to lead humanity which was Jesus Christ ( sounds crazy but it is in the cut script) and since we killed Jesus Christ they got pissed at us and wanted to kill us all, which is why the ship holding the bio weaponized goo was heading towards earth.
According to Newton 2nd law, entropy, this universe/this reality is constantly moving towards a state where it's more chaos, however human is the only known species that constantly trying to build order, one can say that human is constantly defying God, so I can see why the engineers want to end humanity
I'd love to see you cover "the Autopsy of Jane Doe" while it's not necessarily a creature, the science behind it would be really interesting and how exactly a "witch" would influence the world around her or if it's actually all a hallucination after all!
As chaotic as this film was, their lack of surprise finding even a long dead tomb is due to the experience of contact with some other worlds with animal life on them. Some that required the Marines to deal with as colony defence. This is why Hudson (Aliens 1986) said "Is this another BUG HUNT sarge?". There is a novel that tells of one of these times.
A "bug hunt" is a military tactical term meaning a guerilla warfare style where they have to search out the enemy. It doesn't have to do with fighting actual bugs or creatures so Hudson wasn't talking about encounters with other alien life when he said that.
I have never seen a scientist so annoyed at other scientists being flagrantly stupid. This is endlessly entertaining. The snark with which these lines are delivered rival that of CinemaSins and i am here for it. We need you to review more movies with dumb scientists in them.
Random fun fact the Deacon (the thing that came out of the Maker dude) not only survived BUT BECAME A FREAK MOUNTAIN this is not a joke it’s freaking insane!
But they were that stupid. The crew was hand picked by Vickers, she wanted the whole thing to go wrong, just to spite daddy. Explains the "Pups", he knew how they worked, yet not enough to get out.
@@DirtSpud "How many times we gotta teach you this lesson old man" implies that the offspring (humans) defeated their father (the engineer). On multiple occasions. You said it.
That's one thing I've never understood in Sci-Fi.... how do you "scan for life signatures"? Wouldn't it just be scanning for heat signatures? Movement? CO2 release? Like yeah it's Sci-Fi they probably have super advanced scanners than can find idk pulses on the planet surface or something, but yeah I've never understood how it'd be possible to scan for something living.
I know this idea gets a lot of flak from people online, but: it's because the audience will understand "scan for life signs" but won't understand "scan for this, that, and the other thing". Also because writers tend not to have a ton of real scientific knowledge. Not a knock on them, just a fact.
It could be because their devices are capable of conducting some kind of multi-faceted scan for various indications of life, and so instead of listing them all off they just say “scan for life signatures”.
Just learned today that Alien is in the same universe as Blade Runner and the reason Wayland's daughter isnt throwing up etc like the rest of the crew is because she's a replicant, and Idris character even asks if she's a robot. so... do with that info as you will :-D i just found it really cool.
25:12 I've seen several different reviews of Prometheus, but this is the first time I realized how stupid the Engineers are. If we mere humans wanted to seed a planet with our DNA, we'd just replicate a bunch of it in a capsule and then mix it with the goo. I guess it takes an Engineer-level IQ to instead self-destruct🤦♂️ This whole movie is one giant facepalm
For engineers it was more of religious act, just look at that scene, that's clearly ritual. And self-sacrifice is pretty common in various religions here on Earth too...
Yeah, that way of thinking is probably one of the reasons why they wanted to get rid of humanity. Creating new life without the sacrifice of the old leads to the past enslaving the future, point of evidence Weyland and David.
I watched the (once) great Ridley Scott do three different interviews over 3 years. He was, imo, intoxicated in every interview (the latest was at the Romulus premiere) I believe he was SO great that no one told him what to do and he wrote this story drunk and/or with a brain long affected by alcohol abuse. He was a truly great movie maker once.

Like I know he's programmed to be "evil" or whatever but he probably wouldn't have escalated as he did or chose his targets if they were polite and civil to him
Yep and as pointed out in this video, not Tom Hardy doomed himself with how he was talking to David in that scene.

It shows how people are basically jerks and are only nice to other people because of repercussions. I read something where AI girlfriend apps are given tons of abuse by men. yea, but I'll just be that guy lol, one of the reason is they all believe synths are incapable of hurting human because that's how they're programmed, and this had already imbedded in their(human) mind for decades, because the Bladerunner franchise is in the same universe, Weyland corp won beat the Tyrell corp, synths are considered more reliable than replicants

The Angler must be destroyed. Roanoke, you must cover subnautica.

The male don't look much like the females and can't see very well, so he uses scent to find her and then latches on, they can and will go miles to find a female. One of the worst inclusions in the series, that destabalised and decanonized decades of aliens lore from the EU. E-man: "Why are you intruding here?"
David: ‘This man is here because he does not want to die. He believes you can give him more life’.
E-man: "what makes you worthy of something like that."
David: “You see this man pointing to David my company built him from nothing. I made him and made him in my own image so he would be perfect so he would never fail. I deserve this because you and I we are superiors we are creators we are gods and gods never die.
E-man: ”Many worlds have been crafted by the hand of our fathers
through the blood of our lord.

Due to failure to obey commands to identify, open dialogue, or even respond to radio hails, a 2000 kg Tungsten slug is punched through his ship at 50% the speed of light from the orbital Super MAC platform Malta.

I'm guessing it's to check for biological functions (The 7 life processes).
I know this idea gets a lot of flak from people online, but: it's because the audience will understand "scan for life signs" but won't understand "scan for this, that, and the other thing". Also because writers tend not to have a ton of real scientific knowledge. Not a knock on them, just a fact.
@@arrakeenmerchant Yeah. The average movie going isn't going to understand real science, so they have to use Hollywood science.
I guess you learn something new everyday
Really?
Where the hell did you hear that? Is it cannon, for real?
Ridley Scott does not understand his movies.

Hey Roanoke I'm from Broward county FL! I knew I liked you for a reason other than our similar sense of humor 😂
Roanoke: we have reached the threshold

Can Roanoke control his bowels long enough to play Subnautica? Probably not.
The most underrated TH-cam channel ever
I watched the (once) great Ridley Scott do three different interviews over 3 years.
He was, imo, intoxicated in every interview (the latest was at the Romulus premiere)
I believe he was SO great that no one told him what to do and he wrote this story drunk and/or with a brain long affected by alcohol abuse. He was a truly great movie maker once.

Aw
i did hear that half pushup, where your chest don't touch the floor, can be beneficial for the arms but not the chest.
not sure why hollywood loves showing that pushup like it somehow badass or something, since in reality it means the person is not strong enough to do full pushup :p
Actors usually take multiple shots for a scene.
Doing full range of motion takes too much energy and you'll have wait like 10 minutes per shot to recuperate your energy.
@@kingpotato7183 use body double, multiple cameras in various angles, and other techniques to cover that up. it's not low budget movies that fall to this problem.
Throwing my hand in for a video on Leviathan (1989)! I swear I do love you, Papa Roanoke! 💝💝💝
Yeah, a Leviathan cover would be sick, that's one of my favourite body horror scifi films. Though, given his fear of Anglerfish, maybe not the most likely to appear lol.
@AveSicarius One of my hopes is that maybe he can just get as much hate for that fish out throughout the video, it could work as some kind of catharsis for him. But if it never gets made, I won't be salty over it. It's his channel, so he gets to decide what happens next. I'll still be here to listen, no matter how crazy the videos get.
"why do they do that"
"so the movie can happen"
As a geologist, thank you so much for mentioning joints and shale/bedding planes.
