Its very satisfying doing your own maintenance. I'm self taught from the age of 13 and I'm 62. hate to think how much I must have saved over all those years.
I've learned from my father and TH-cam how to do, and save on, a great many things. I like to add to the community of DIYers. Also...sadly...anymore...there is a not-small number of people who only have TH-cam as the option, as the father is absent. Plus most things, even with cars, are crazy simple. More time consuming than anything, but turns out to be much faster and less headache than planning to drop it off at a stealership and having THEM mess it up. 😅
@@OutsideTheTargetDemographic yeah I've taken it out 3 or 4 time's now. The thing is a outstanding piece of of machinery. I bought it in Wooster and rode it home an hour on a 30 something degree day.
@@iana3602 I'm the third owner, and put ~17k miles on it myself. It has 108.5k miles on the clock. No issues with it so far. Old enough to drink, gets 45mpg, and does everything I need it to.
A sheet of aluminium foil over the header pipes will keep the dirty oil off them when changing that filter, plus it can be tweaked to guide the flow in the right direction ;)
As cute as he is useless. Three mice were killed in the house this past week, and none of them were done by God's greatest hunter. Doesn't even pay his rent....
I don't, no. I read the rating was "nice and snug", usually oil filters should have BARELY ANY torque on THEM, as they are made of very thin, flimsy metal. I usually get it snug, and then do a 1/8th rotation more. No tools. The rubber O ring will act as a mechanical spring and hold the filter in place with tension.
@@TootTootComingThru I know. Everyone dreams of that high paying desk job that is the Valvoline oil pit. Sorry man. But that doesn't mean you can't TRAIN the grease monkeys. 👍

Did you use motorcycle specific oil?
You know you need that because of the wet clutch, right?
Truth
Just got a 2001 of these, great video. You don't use a torque wrench on the filter at all?
