Bought a 1992 with 65K miles last year for $1750 American, changed the oil and filter, loaded up my sleeping bag and tent, and rode from Texas to Colorado and back. 2000 miles round trip. Loved every minute of it.

Beat Ya!!!.....Just bought, or should I say "Robbed" one for £1099!!!....Sold my Ducati ST4 for £2000 as it hurt my back & also had to dismantle lower & Middle parts of the O/S fairing just to charge the battery, then bought my Stunning Pan for £901 less!!. Got to say, having owned mainly Triumph's, Ducati's etc....This Pan is made for me. It is just so well balanced & easy to ride, I no longer return home to the missus as if I have done a full Gym workout. Just found out I have Osteoarthritis in my back from a Bike v Bus Incident in 1983 plus many years of being a squaddy jumping out of many wonderful forms of transport, & something called Scheuermann's disease from the same incident, the Pan is an absolute godsend!!!......Absolutely love it & for the 1st time in my life (Now 56), I can honestly say....It is a keeper!!!!

  • @andrewstones2921
    @andrewstones2921 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I just bought one, I ended up buying one from a dealer simply because it was the best one I could find and even though it was obviously more expensive than a private sale it still relatively cheap. In fact I’d been riding a little cb125 for the last year and I managed to sell that private for the same price as I bought the Pan.. myself I really wanted the ABS model, in truth I am not the most skilled rider despite passing my motorbike test over 40 years ago. Any little safety aids are worthwhile in my opinion. That safe feeling that you get on Pan is one of the big appeals, the way it makes everything easy and makes you a better and safer rider. Thank you for your videos, watching videos like yours was immensely useful when I was looking for a bike.

Spend some on new sparks, fresh (cooling/brake/clutch) fluids and oils (incl. front fork and shaft oil - most of em never seen fresh front fork oil in 20+years and it make a world of difference gents!) check the thermostat, maybe a new airfilter, give the rear wheel flange some nice fresh Moly 60 and check the damping rubbers in the real wheel, keep an eye out for any bearing problems, get yourself a rubber swingarm protector to keep the water and dirt away from the weakspots, rinse it after a salty trip and you will be good for thousands of fun miles.
    Great steal anyhow!
Been riding one - ST1100A(Y) - model for 3 years now and don't want anything else.

bought my ST 1100 three years ago with 75'000km for a whopping 1000 Swiss Francs and invested about the same amount to get it roadworthy (clogged carbs etc...) and have a trailer clutch. Never regretted it. Yes, she is heavy but once you learn not to stop her on a descending slope (you will never get her out of there alone!).
On the road and 10'000km later it's just pure fun. And a lot of it.

Wonderful ride video and review. I bet you weren't thinking you were doing a review? Lol. But you did a review. Just bought a 2003 1300 3 weeks ago. Just wow. It had 11000 miles, yep, 11k miles (USA). Not a Pan, just the stock, no electric windshield, no ABS. Heck I had to get on the brakes twice in the past 3 weeks. Who needs ABS? Rock solid, fast, smooth....sportbike/cruiser. I wanted to buy the 1100 many years ago in the 90's. I did not buy it. I had a V65 Honda Sabre for years and just started riding again after 15 years with no bike. I love my 1300

I had a 1998 ST1100 Pan, bought it with 16K on the clock. All I ever had to do to it was plugs and oil changes and I swapped the original collector box out for a stainless job. Put GPS on it and and Autocom intercom into the helmets, mp3 player in the side pocket. Rode it round France a few times over the years, did Belgium to Limoges in one day without it batting an eyelid, my good lady used to sleep on the back on longer hauls. Loved that bike. I remember before I bought it that a Swedish bloke on an ST100 forum posted that he was disappointed that his Pan had its first problem at 330,000 miles! Good enough for me the police and paramedics couldn't be that far wrong, basically bullet proof even if you drop them nothing breaks. 5000 rpm was110mph on the nice French roads. :)

Hey Jonny Lee. Great video and I agree with what you say about the ST1100. (Not a Pan European in Australia.). I bought mine in 2014 (72,000 km) and 5 days later (had not ridden for 16 years) left for Darwin from Adelaide. And return. About 6,000 km. Four of those trips later (last in 2018) and it still feels like the bike for me. 110,000 km now and I think I should get the carbs balanced. Thanks for that input.

I've coincidentally got the 1300 but more to the point, don't waste time trying to fix your green light. I've got another bike with an annoyingly bright green efficiency light (a vacuum gauge basically). A small square of thick cloth gaffer tape will make it near invisible. If you can cope with not knowing when it's in neutral it's a very quick and cheap solution

$2400 dollars for my '97, I added over 10k miles to the 93k miles already on the clock. The only issue I've had with it is the turn signal switch failed after a DELUGE of a rainfall, so bad CARS were pulling under the overpass.

It has run 167.000km, sounds still ok, but not as smooth as yours.

I would love to raise the seat a bit (I am 6’6”).

ha ha. From a Zed to an old ST. Unless it was beat or never serviced it will go over 100,000 miles with minimal maintenance. It is not a city bike. But after taking one from California to Washington D.C. to Canada and back you will understand why it is a touring legend. And when you suddenly need new brake pads in I-have-never-been-here-before Michigan you can easily find them for a cheap 10 minute fix at any Honda shop. Try that with your German/ Italian or Harley luxury bike.
    Tip on the carb sync.
Save a lot of time and trouble by getting a Synchrometer flow meter. About $37.00 US. Remove the air filter cartrage, like you are going to routine maintenance replace it. That is it. Now adjust to your heart's content using the rubber Honda intake tubes. Very accurate and works like a champ.

That Honda ST1100 is probably one of the best motorcycles ever built.
I would ask anyone who has owned one if they could dispute that?
I have never owned one, but know people that have and have read much about the bike. It’s not hard to go over 200K miles with basic maintenance and moderate driving. Not bad for a bike you can currently buy in decent shape for $2500.
I have, however rode several and they are smooth, fast, nimble for a bike that size and robust.

did you get the unintended side benefit of heat off of the engine and radiator? I don’t know how the 1100 heat issue is, but I took all the cash. The guy was asking to buy a ST 1300 used back about 2020. it was a hot day. I had my usual riding gear on, and I told the guy I will not be back in less than an hour, you can’t find out what a bike is like, but I’m going up and down the street once.
10 minutes out, I started feeling heat on my legs, my shins, I thought the radiator was leaking water on my legs, hot water, or at least the engine had sprung an oil leak. I pulled over and checked, it was radiator heat penetrating through my Kevlar riding jeans.. I was not in stop and go traffic. I was out in the rolling hillside around Johnstown, Pennsylvania, which is mostly rural farms and open fields.(Yes, that Johnstown, Pennsylvania, site of the dam failure, which caused a massive fatal flood direct hit thru the city in 1889..2209 fatalities..
I immediately turned around and took the machine back. The owner was in his garage when I pulled back into the driveway. He came up with a big smile and said, that was a quick hour. To which I replied, how can you ride this oven?.. his smile was erased as he said, that’s why it’s for sale..
it broke my heart, because that motorcycle was in pristine, beautiful condition, fresh meats, aftermarket, vented, windshield, Sargent seat, color, matched trunk, low mileage, original owner.. I had taken all the cash she was asking for it just in case I had to fork over , because I was already sold just on the pictures and the equipment and the low mileage. I did not want to risk losing it by dickering… but that heat was a dealbreaker. It’s the same reason I never considered an FJR when they first hit the market. Lots of press about the heat issue on that machine. I’ve only had one real crotch roaster. And 80s Honda 700 saber with matching paint on the CBX style fairing, and saddlebag accessories.
that was the original bike dealer taught me to take a bike for a ride to get it hot, then decide. Because that Saber that I bought in the winter and really didn’t get a chance to ride it. Only to be heartbroken on the first ride in April. I was wearing my full one piece arlerostitch suit and I could feel the flamethrower heat coming through that suit, which is heavily padded in the shins. I put that motorcycle for sale on eBay, and because it was April, I got a lot more money than I paid for it. The guy paid me in full on paypal.. on one condition. If I could hold the bike so he could drive the 700 miles to pick it up sometime in the future, because he was too busy right now to do it. I said fine. I will never do that again. He did not pick that bike up until The end of July.. my one car garage already has my 1958 mga in it, all my tools, cabinets, and other motorcycles. I had to pull that bike out every time I wanted to get into my toolbox…
that’s not the first time something like that happened to me. I sold one of my kids dirt bikes when they grew out of it. it’s sold almost immediately through the local paper that summer. The guy asked me if he could leave it here for a little while, because it’s a surprise for his son. I said sure.
It was in my gym, packed garage until Christmas Eve and I did not have his phone number

Ride it in good health and say a damn prayer to your Guardian Angel before you do each time mate. He's been puttin' up with your BS even longer than El Wifey has. 🎶🎸🤘😂🤘🎸🎶

Clutch diode is easy to change while balancing the carbs as it's under the fake fuel tank air box cover.
I picked up a tatty 99 50th anniversary a couple of years ago, it was on its second swing arm, alternator and fuel tank.
I've changed the exhaust system, swingarm again and rebuilt the brakes and replaced the rear ABS modulator, the clutch and the timing belt.
