So, I have built a few LS and ford motors in the past. I found out long ago that if you don’t use factory OEM sensors you will have issues. The ones you get from auto parts stores aren’t built to spec and have different resistance. I’m willing to bet if you buy a new oil pressure sensor from GM the problem will go away. Your local GM dealership should carry one if stock or be able to get you one ASAP.

Not going to lie, watching you struggle at 12:30 with the manifold motivates me to work on my own car. I feel like I struggle with everything, but recognizing that other hobby mechanics go through the same gives me some hope that maybe I'm not as mechanically deficient as I think I am sometimes.

Best corvette/diy auto channel on TH-cam. Appreciate you including all the headaches, troubleshooting, and victories big or small. Makes it that much more real for the home garage wrencher. Hoping this exhaust leak is not actually a big deal…
Josh for future reference, when removing and installing the intake manifold. On those last two bolts that are a bugger, all you need to do in cut a one inch piece of hose that doesn’t allow the head of the intake bolt fall through, then cut it length wise. Install the bolt into the split hose, then install the bolts into the manifold. Install the manifold, you will be able to just slide it on in ( don’t forget to put some WD40 around the ports so the o-ring can slide a bit) when it’s aligned, just pull out your split hoses and the bolts will drop right into place and bob your uncle!
Really loving this series and the addition of multi-Josh through the new editing is very cool. Definitely helps the work go faster 😅

Yeah it's not fun to end on a question of there being something even worse going on. But one way or another we'll get it sorted out eventually.
I'm not 100% sure of the story on the ECU. What I think happened is that my old battery was weak and when they tried to apply the base tune it "bricked" the ECU although they were still able to communicate with it. It wouldn't let the car start and was complaining about the clutch switch (which isn't something that got touched and the car started just fine pre-tune).
They thought they needed a GM computer to reflash the old ECU back to stock, but GM's network was down for a week or so. Finally they decided to just swap in a brand new ECU and put the base tune on that (presumably with the car on a charger).
I had the car on a charger overnight before we tried to start it and that's part of what prompted me to replace the battery. Sometimes the simplest solution is the correct one.
Hopefully we won't have to keep you in suspense about the motor health situation for too much longer with @jax1079 on board!

Regarding the high oil pressure, you 100% could have just had a defective sensor. I’ve gotten bad ones straight out of the box before.
Watching your videos is getting me excited to get back on the road with my yellow C6 Z. About three weeks ago, I bought it from someone in Dahlonega, and everything went downhill from there. It was a heads/cam car with 18k miles. Everything checked out: really clean, ran great, good oil pressure, etc. Nothing made me think this motor was a ticking time bomb.
Twenty-five miles into my trip back to Florida, the motor started making an odd noise and was losing oil pressure. By the time I got to a safe place to park, the motor sounded awful. Although I would have loved to do the work on my own after seeing your videos, I am getting the car fixed by a shop in FL to get the motor torn down and refreshed.

Awesome job! There is no better feeling than working on your own car and accomplishing something like your build. Last year, I also did a rebuild on my “Goldie” but it was on the rear differential and T56 transmission. I won’t bore you on the details but I, as a hobby level mechanic, was able to do both successfully. With the help of TH-cam, service manual and a zero-time frame, I was able to accomplish this and upgraded a few parts in the process. Was very proud of myself and every time I drive my car, I feel more connected to it as a result.
Some observations on the Z06 in regard to your video.
1. Electrical issue on these cars are common. I have done extensive research and it seems 95% of the issues are a result of wiring/grounding problems. There are 13 grounds on these cars. Yes 13! The best way to determine if you have a wiring issue is this.
Go measure the voltage between the following areas.
1: ALT output and mounting bracket (ground).
2: Fuse box + post and ground
3: Rear battery +/- posts.
Voltage should be less than 0.3volts drop of each other. If you have 0.3volts or more difference than you have a wiring issue. These cars are very sensitive to small voltage drops. One other thing to check the fuse box bolts. The fuse box is bolted together and the bolts will loosen over time. Mine was definably too loose.
2. Clutch spring. I know Monster recommends to remove the clutch spring. I removed mine and while it was better than with the C6 spring, I still didn’t like it. Especially since I live in the NE and can get stuck in stop and go traffic. After some research I decided to go with a c5 clutch pedal return spring. The C5 version is much smaller and weaker spring than the C6 version. For me it made the clutch pedal perfect and much easier for street driving. FYI, I’m also running the same Monster dual clutch as you are. For cheap $$ I though I would mention it as an option.

Going forward you should just check the first response on all the tech forums because you seem to have all the most common problems. Good to see Goldie back on the road!
ALL tire shops suck. I bought my own tire machine and balancer, love it.. No scratches, I also get to balance match the tire to the wheel by balancing the wheel without the tire and marking the heavy spot, then placing the light spot marked on the tire in that location. Usually all 4 wheels take about 2oz total and drive perfect at every speed.
Need to fix the exhaust leak and get another tune that start was taking way to long good job Im happy for your awesome build
Yeah that hot start problem is a head-scratcher for me.
That filter screen was what goes in the valley cover under the sensor to keep debris away from sensor.
I've never seen Go pro footage this clear
Recording in 4K with max bit rate and then having a good editor do a color-correction pass goes a long way.
The oil pressure sensor is a very common failure on all gm vehicles of that time lol i would have gotten a ac delco sensor just because its a pain to get to

If you find yourself redoing the exhaust gaskets, consider remflex. Excellent quality and helps seal up any surface imperfections.
Congrats, another great (and well edited) video. I can't wait for the exhaust leak reveal. The knocking you're hearing may likely be the floating AP Racing rotors. Mine do same.

Great job so far. I've had good luck with the Chevy OEM LS7 exhaust manifold gaskets. Almost anything else I've used leaks.

Great videos! No doubt I too have had all the same frustrations, let downs, and mistakes being a hobby/DIY/self-taught mechanic. Having that final end result where it just comes together and things finally work is the best though. Your videos are inspiring so keep 'em coming bud! I also really miss my old Code Blue and remember some of those same tribulations like replacing the battery...mine also didn't have a handle and it took me a solid 30 minutes and bloody knuckles to get it out.

Remflex 2066 headers gaskets. I just installed these header gaskets on my 2008 ZO6 after installing 1 7/8 ARH headers. The stock ones leaked and these fixed the problem. Just remember exhaust ports are D-shaped so there is a top and bottom. I ordered them from Summit Racing. Great work on the car!! You can install these without removing header completely, loosen H-pipe bolts, slightly pull headers off head, slide old gasket out and install these. torque header bolts from middle out and do not over torque.
Also when I did my head swap and new headers on the 08Z I probably took the headers off 3 or 4 times solving the header leak. It’s a pain and time suck but nothing more rewarding once you fix it. I am sure a lot of people run into header leaks, so the trouble shooting should be added into the build time. The Remflex gaskets are a lot thicker and compress really well compared to stock gaskets.

the little filter screen was installed in most gen 4 ls engines, and it can actually plug up if the oil is not changed at the correct interval, so at my work when ever we replace the sensors we leave the screen out so it doesn't cause issues with the oil pressure gauge in the future
Nothing compares to first start up and drive after putting a motor back together. Did heads and cam on my C6Z and the first crank left me with knots in my stomach and a sense of accomplishment.
I know the feeling when you get your pride and joy back running. Really happy for you.

I was about to go to bed cause ive been up all night and need to get up at 7am currently 5:44 am my time and saw your video so i had to watch it cause I'm emotional invested in you and your car. Mainly cause my yellow 2008 Corvette has been on jackstands for 3 months now😢 But i always enjoy seeing the progress you make on your car and it makes me wanna get my car running that again so bad.
I remember so many times I would read forum build threads and get amped up to work on my own stuff. It makes me feel really good to be providing that for fellow yellow C6 owners (there seem to be a lot of us 😅)!
@@JoshVanVeld It really does seem that way. Yellow is my least favorite color and i never thought i would own a yellow car, but the price for mine just couldn't be better. Probably the lowest priced c6 with an ls3 in the country at the time, yes it has its issues but Corvettes have been my favorite car for as long as i can remember. Just seeing them on the road would always excite me, but never thought i would be financially stable enough to buy one, but my cards played out nicely when the opportunity came up to buy it, so i jumped on it despite the color. The color has grown on me and every time i look at it i just smile even if it is in jackstands.(although i think the c7 is the best looking in yellow imo😂)

Just a thought, the shaking is likely from the new motor mounts. The factory ones smooth out engine vibrations a ton. Even though the ones you installed have a dampener, they’re closer to a solid mount.

Thanks dude! In a previous video somebody comment and said with an LS that rowdy the best motor mounts in the world aren't going to keep it calm at idle. I think he might be right.
You may want to consider installing an oil pressure sensor relocation kit with a gauge on it. I installed on my C5 and it gives me a good cross reference between the dashboard reading and the actual oil pressure.
Subscribed im the beginning and have gotten busy. Awesome content man! Pick yourself up a electric pressure washer and a decent foam sprayer. 4 buckets are gold but the foam helps loosen grime and funk. Diluting some purple cleaner works really well too but might eat thru any protection applied after washing. It'll save your back too! Congrats on the engine build. You'll get there!
I always find it helpful to think of all brand new parts as "not proven working" until i prove they do. It's a pain to run into the parts store twice to exchange the same part, but it has saved me endless diagnosis hell.
Smart! It's a sad state of affairs that so many of these things don't work out of the box.

Bad new sensors are a "thing" as I have found out.....
I installed a new fuel injection kit on my 70 Big Block. After getting all installed and running, the system would never go into "closed-loop" operation, even though the engine got up to operating temperature. Finally swapped-in a known (good), used sensor, and all was well. Curiosity got the best of me and after comparing the two, there ended-up being a whopping 17 degree different between the two!
@@JoshVanVeld Once ordered a new water pump for my Seat Ibiza, and the correct box showed up, but there was a Volkswagen Touareg water pump inside! You can't make this stuff up, I guess someone was having a long Friday at the factory.

When you replace the oil pressure sensor or if you are experiencing low oil pressure readings. They can be purchased separately from the dealer. I enjoyed your build vlogs. Great job!

The filter screen that fell out of the napa oil sensor box goes in the oil sensor port where the sensor
screws into the valley manifold cover. It helps keep filter dirt from entering the oil sensor.
I did cave and google it after I wrote that part of the script. In the moment though I had tunnel vision on the oil pressure issue. Thank you! How often should those be replaced?
Have an 06Z that I'm turning into street legal track car. So many similarities to goldie. YOU HAVE BECOME MY PRODUCT & TOOL SPIRIT ANIMAl. Bought the same brake bleeder and just ordered the scan tool from this video. Keep it up. Lastly a true GT3 killer needs aero. I resisted the urge for a while, but took the plunge. Front splitter and rear wing changes the feel and look of the car completely. If you go that route, 9lives makes a nice kit that's reasonable.
9lives is close to us and we ran their stuff on two different Miatas that I raced. For a street car I'd need something a little more aesthetically pleasing but I don't know if I can bring myself to do it. We'll see though, nothing about this journey has gone the way I originally planned and I'm 100% ok with that at this point. I was looking forward to this after cam vid. I just did a BTR stage 3 and said the same thing - wasn’t expecting the rowdiness and shaking. I renamed mine Rhonda because of it. You’ll get used to it though and will get addicted to the shaking.

Haha! I also have the clunking from somewhere near the passenger rear. The clutch also takes getting used to. The twin clutch is noisy! I put a C5 clutch spring in bc I was worried about the pedal not returning fully.

That little scan tool will suite a DIY’er well. It’s Autel software with a different name on the tablet. It will be comparable to an OE scan tool on most GM vehicles.
Oil pressure sensor screen is found on other “LS” style engines. It’s a common cause of low oil pressure issues in other vehicles.
I was really digging "multi-Josh"! I could really use a "multi-me"....just think, I could send one to work, while I have fun in my own garage! 😆

if the grease coming out of the cv boot was due to overfilling the cv joint with grease, expect it to come out again at your next track day when high heat causes more expansion.

our local mobile tire guy who attends track days for ppl who need tire service will put the weights on the “inside” of the rim closest to the body on cars like yours because the heat from the brakes can cause the weights to separate from the wheel and unbalance the wheel as well as scratch the heck out of your caliper. happened to my friend’s c7 z06.

I have the same problem on my C5. Oil pressure is pegged at 105 PSI. I replaced the oil pressure sensor twice with Autozone ones, did not work. Then I got an OEM one, also did not work. So I got the same exact oil pressure gauge from Amazon and tested the pressure and the readback was completely normal. At this point I removed and installed the sensor about 7 times. Luckily I did not have to remove the intake as the previous owner or whoever worked on this car cut an access hole below the wiper cowl. As of now I'm just living with a bad readback on the dash.
Holy crap! Is it always showing 105 psi and never deviating at all? Since you've tried so many sensors I would start wondering about wiring at that point. Makes me grateful that mine was a simple fix.
@@JoshVanVeld Yes, it stays at that point regardless of the RPM. I tried unplugging the electrical connector to the sensor while the car is running but the readback on the dash went to 0 and check gauges light came on as expected. That tells me the ECU is at least getting input from the sensor. I could just be unlucky with brand new faulty sensors.

the 4.0 ah m12 and 5.0 m12 are awesome! never had any issue out of them, I've bought 2 6.0 ah and they did not last a month

There is a extension kit for the oil pressure sensor, like the speed bleed extender for your clutch, which you can install so you don't have to pull the intake if you have oil pressure sensor issues. Basically a flexible steel oil line that screws in where the sensor normally goes and lets you remote mount the sensor.
I got one of those kits for my c5z after two sensors failed and leaked oil everywhere. I feel like somebody told me you’ll get a different pressure reading from it though…
@@JoshVanVeld Fluid mechanics theory says this is correct. There will be a pressure drop across the extra fittings and length of extension hose. I guess there is a reason GM didn't place the sensor in a remote location for serviceability.
@@24theMoney Do you have the know-how to calculate the drop? At what % would we care? I’m guessing the main reason gm wouldn’t do it is because cost and complexity would go up.

Never went back to Bell Tire after they screwed both sets of wheels I had, Swapping tires from the old set and putting on new never touched... They drug the foot around the old set and chipped the new set in 8 spots across all the new wheels.

Another thing to do is to replace the solder butt connectors you used they will cause high resistance after multiple heat cycles of the engine
Yes! Unfortunately this was filmed prior to the last video coming out so I didn't realize that might be an issue. Next time the manifold comes off I'll plan to redo that.

@@JoshVanVeld brother I know exactly how you feel. I bought my first Vette 05 Z51 in November and she never wanted to redline. Always seemed like fuel cut around 4000 RPM. After taking it to tuners and changing out a fuel pump, you'd never guess what the problem was.......... A weak fucking battery! Thousands of dollars spent and countless sleepless nights all for a battery. Apparently C6 Corvettes need a really strong battery so everything operates nice and smooth.
@@trevorcunning6248 Haha holy crap. I can relate. I think since they are known to run down their batteries you really need to keep them on a trickle charger or the battery dies a premature death and all kinds of bad stuff can happen as a result.

That crank no-start before the drive at the end gave me anxiety 😅
😬 Bobby said it's because the fuel rail had been disconnected to get the intake manifold off and needed to be primed.

The reason you bleed brakes in that order is because the air escapes easier when you start from the longest line (the other extreme of the master cylinder) and progressively get closer to it
When it runs, is when my truck gets a wash. Been installing a supercharger and new fuel system. Truck is filthy but won’t be washed until the new time comes in and starts

The choppy cam feel you're having is due to the motor mounts. Those things are transferring all the vibrations from the motor into the car! If you went with OEM mounts, that rubber dampens the engine vibrations from going into the chassis.
I would say the sensor might be for a different model or a poor aftermarket version. Those resistance tolerances are pretty tight from the OEM, so it just seems like maybe they gave you one for a corvette without a drysump system or a cheap-o version.
OH man.... exhaust leaks = o2 sensors misreading = fueling issues = if it runs lean, it could blow the motor!!! If it runs rich, you could hydro-lock the motor!! PLEASE TELL ME THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN! JOSH, TELL ME THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN!

I don’t remember which motor mounts he used built typically after a few hundred miles the new poly motor mounts will break-in slightly and slightly reduce vibration. If he used solid aluminum mounts on a street car, not the best idea. Might want to wear a mouth guard! I installed Hinson stock height mounts and they are perfect amount of vibration once broken in.

The high oil pressure is caused by the spring you used in the oil pump if your using an aftermarket high pressure/volum pump you want to run the lowest psi spring which will give 10 psi more than stock, if you put the high psi spring it’s going to give you really high oil pressure that’s what happened to my c6 swapping springs fixed it
In this case it was just a faulty sensor, thank goodness.
Gotta say you should upgrade your detail game. Washing cars is so relaxing and the better tools you have, the more you will enjoy it. Get yourself a foam gun Ayam for your hose. And some p21s polish for your exhaust tips. That will clean and polish your exhaust every wash. Obsessed Garage will have everything you can imagine for detailing including TH-cam videos.
Yes! It’s really a matter of time at this point. I have some of the products and equipment but gave up on foaming a while back. But with all of my vehicles running and driving maybe I can devote more time to that side of things.

Uh ohhh if its not the exhaust....please don't be the head or valve train....Goldie chill out. Hope its a warped header flange...cheap gasket... or non- locking bolts backing out due to the harmonics from big D energy of a cammed LS. However, your ominous foreshadow is letting us know it "ain't" that simple. Lots of people getting bad heads as of late, even from the biggest names in the LS head game.
I am learning more about patience & a positive outlook from your vids. I hate to keep people in suspense but we're getting the rate of the videos coming out way faster with Jack's help so hopefully we'll have a resolution soon and a happy story to tell. This thing has been a rollercoaster ride.
Good point about the cats. It probably would have been wise to do an intake and exhaust / headers all in one go but I tried to exercise restraint and not do everything just because I was already in there. It's a slippery slope.
Either way, I appreciate the support and we're having a lot of fun making the videos. Hopefully she's back on track soon.
the little filter is for afm/dod engines
Turns out my valley cover has a little raised part where that filter goes. I was too preoccupied with the oil pressure situation to bother investigating. I'm sure the old filter is fine.

Last time i was in Batteries + they advertised that they could rebuild Milwaukee batteries. Might be possible to save it.
Oh nice! I hate to throw them away. And by "throw them away" I mean keep them in my house indefinitely because I never bothered to look up where the battery recycling center around here is.
@@JoshVanVeld My experience has been it's typically almost as expensive having them repaired as it is to buy a new battery. I'm sure with enough research I could figure out how to repair the batteries, but again not worth it in my case.
break in is NOT 500 miles. factories only say that so they"re not responsible for damage. true engine break in is 3-5 wide open throttle pulls and an oil change immediately after. always use a zinc additive when breaking in parts
The clutch also calls for a break in period. I’m definitely skeptical that the 500 miles does anything.
I just bought a yellow c6z a couple of weeks ago to turn into a track car. I’m chasing a vacuum leak myself.
