To be fair Multipla isnt bad car. Its not pretty, but it has great utility (6 seats, each can be taken out or folded separately, great visibility, reasonable fuel consumption and reliability for its era etc.)

They handle quite good for a microcar from the era it feels like a small gocart. i used to work at renault as an apprentice when they first came out and yes working on them was not that fun.
I still have a 1998 Twingo with the D7F engine. So, no 16 valves, no AC, no frills at all. Beside the full canvas roof. With that said, its simple and easy to work on. And parts are cheap. In fact the entire normal maintenance and timing belt change is a breeze. That tiny thing had my covered not just rolling in it's native Portugal. But also for quite some time in Norway during Winter. Screaming on the German Autobahn and everywhere else around Europe... Absolutely awesome car! Love it.
As an American who drives a V8 HEMI truck all the time I assure you it's some sort of fun having a car that fits everywhere and doesn't need a kick to roll.
I bought one earlier this year because I needed cheap wheels to get some renovations done. Twingo might be honest and purposeful but by god is it the most unreliable shitbox I've ever had.

Oil and filter every 10k km, radiator, track rod ends and ball joints. Exhaust. Tyres. Think it had a timing chain? Never checked. No rust. No power steering and no aircon. Less things to break. Loved this thing. Never let me down. Great video, now I want another! 👏👏
I love this! my mates took one look at my '98 saab 9-3 and decided they loved it and wanted their own, so now we're just three 18 year olds driving in a convoy of identical cars! there's nothing better than having the whole group using the same model car, it's actually unreal. enjoy your nuggets, you legends!

Cause those cars were never ment to be driven a lot. Smarts had a warranty of only 90k km (or 4 years) of which many haven't even reached that mileage.

"Forbidden mustard" is a very common problem with these engines. The sludge forms because the valve cover is made of plastic, while the rest of the engine is made of aluminum or metal. The cover can't reach the same temperatures as the rest of the engine, so the sludge accumulates on the cap. This is normal for engines with plastic valve covers.
That's probably where the heat exchanger for the heating sits. With time they get rusty and leak. Pretty normal for older cars, not specific to French cars.
Was my first car and I have amazing memories of it. It was a nightmare sometimes, but during late school and early university years it was the perfect car. You can go to festivals, camping and whatever you can think of. Sleep in it was very easy, it was powerful enough and really fun to drive. Only missing part was AC, but therefore I had the foldable sunroof. Just a stunning small car, sad they changed the DNA so much.

The Twingo is only real with the folding roof, making it almost like a convertible. Also, you have to put a subwoofer under the driver's seat! When mine was complete, I had to take it all the way (2000km) to Ibiza 👍😎
6:56 this is why some owners of this car have made spacers for the lower wheel well cover so that the "cake" can escape when formed. You can't stop it - not without extensive modifications, but you can at least mitigate it. My personal suggestion, spacers + 20 mm hole (for 20 mm rubber grommet) so that when the car's cleaned, you can take the rubber grommet out and sneak a pressure washer wand in there and blast (at low pressure) whatever gunked up in there. Also, a good idea to park the car (in reverse) on an incline or wheel chocks to lift up its butt and allow "cake" extrication to happen easier. I don't know what renault was thinking when they made this car... but it wasn't an IQ breaker, that's for sure.

Fender cavity: you could cut a hole at the bottom so that the composted material can find a way out. The VW group had a similar issue, and they ended up designing an opening to the front of the sills, at the bottom. Plus maybe fill some seal sealer in the smaller gaps.

A small suggestion: I find that a song called Blue and pink sky by MVKM somehow fits perfectly with the whole nugget theme (esp repair). perhaps drop a guy request to use it, he's a small creator, i think will be happy to share. plus you guys will get something lovely!
