    I like how you include the good and bad stuff! The actual realities of living on a boat together!

      Some say I complain too much but I am a realist and want people to understand what it’s really like out here living on a boat. I wish someone had told me a lot of this stuff before. We watched channels for 7 years. I guess selling the rainbows & butterflies of boat life is what makes the most money 🤷‍♀️

    Was definitely beautiful waters in the Abacos! Y'all are doing an awesome job. You have the admiral and I looking through all our plans and making adjustments from your opportunities. I think the biggest problem with your boat right now is that you don't have a LaTech flag flying!

      Ha! I was looking at my hat the other day and thought that I needed to either clean it or get a new one! Hope you get to your goals of full time cruising as well! Definitely learning new things out here!

      I hope y’all have better than we had in December with lots of wind. The Abacos were beautiful! Powell, Manjack and Hopetown were our favorites. Also, great reef between Scotland Cay & Guana with a pink sand beach😊Thanks for subscribing!

    I am a ham radio operator and long ago was a radar repairman. I had a serious WTH moment seeing your antenna. Not sure kind of cable you have, but a single continuous run from radio to antenna is desirable.

      I'm a ham radio operator. I agree with all those connections. I've never seen an antenna like that. I'd see if someone as an SWR meter to see if you are getting a 1:1 match

      All these boats are built the same way. We are finding that most owners wind up having the same issue with the factory supplied cable. Likely going to have it replaced in Panama.

    Another great video! Curious how you choose your ground support and if you have a recommendation. Also very refreshing to see other parents struggling with tech balance/attitude. You're not alone! Cheers!🎉

      Thanks so much! Our ground support is our two very dependable best friends. We email and text them when anchor is up and then again when down. The parenting struggle is real!! Tech is bittersweet! Thanks for following along!

    We almost never sail in company it's much better making your own plans.

    • @SailingParadiseFalls
      @SailingParadiseFalls  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, leave when you feel like it and don't have to worry about others plans. We are learning quickly that an anchorage can make fast friends though and the fun you have with some people lead you to spend more time together. That time though, when you are on the water, can be as long as you want. Eventually paths diverge and you "say see you soon/later." That leaves the opportunity to meet new friends!! We have been getting used to heading over to other boats to say hi! Thanks for following our journey!

    The standard gauge of the vhf cable from Leopard is very lite. Consider running a new heavy gauge vhf cable from the top of mast.

    • @SailingParadiseFalls
      @SailingParadiseFalls  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is definitely on the list once we reach Panama. Thanks for the tip!

    So on these light days we normally put our main up at anchor. This way the main is up is the wind fills in, it is easy to put up when you at anchor, and great practice. So we pull up to about 25 feet of chain, easy the main sheets, have the engines on, raise the main once up pull the last 25 feet and your off. Motoring with the main up will help to stabilize the boat. Once you do this several times the main will be much easier. Your are a sail boat, just saying, cheers

    • @SailingParadiseFalls
      @SailingParadiseFalls  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! we are a sailboat and we were taught how to sail off anchor without even using the motors (albeit we were by ourselves in a small bay) . We will be using that strategy when we have the opportunity. It's been tough with the weather being uncooperative. We know we should not be on a schedule, but we have only a few months to work our way to Panama. That means sometimes we are going to have to motor (motor sail) to get to our next anchorage. But you are right! We need to SAIL! :-) Thanks for following our journey!

    Yall are a long way from being ready to sail around the world! Please spend a year in the Bahamas and Caribbean before ever thinking about an ocean crossing.

    • @SailingParadiseFalls
      @SailingParadiseFalls  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We appreciate your concern. We sailed 1355nm from the BVI to Fl on this boat and since added another 800nm. We previously sailed over 1,000nm on our monohull. Adjusting to be a full time liveaboard has been the hardest but we are getting there. The adjustment from monohull to cat has been a transition but I think we are getting the hang of everything.

      This is the best advice so far. Just because you can,' doesn't mean you should. Buying a used charter boat is very risky and your boat seems to have many issues plus, it's overloaded and slow which in the deep water means dangerous . It's one thing if it's just the two of but but an ocean crossing let alone circumnavigation requires either very simple boat and lot's of experience or, lot's of money to fix the thing that will inevitably break and/or serious jury rigging skills. The big risks are loss of the boat and that could also mean lives. YIKES

    It’s gonna get easier… yes it will. Personally I don’t like putting sails up when the engine is on like that. Just go slow point into the wind and you’re good. You don’t need the created wind, it can disturb everything. Just my humble experience.

    put autopilot in wind angle mode and set AP in irons (directly into wind) when raise the main. Ease the jacklines and get them out of the way before raising main.

    • @SailingParadiseFalls
      @SailingParadiseFalls  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely! We have learned about wind vane mode from a fellow cruiser. we were taught to do it one way and did not know any better. Once we replace the jack lines, it will be set up so we will not have to worry about them. We are getting faster and more efficient the more we sail. Thanks for your suggestions and thanks for following along!

    Have to set usage time for tech and it’s not while managing the boat for sure. Low wind is good time to practice the up down of sails. You’ll want that to be set so it can be done without thinking when it needs to be done in bad weather.

      @SailingParadiseFalls  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep! It seems tracking tech usage was much easier on land - only 1hr after homework complete but now there is so much more free time. Weaning everyone off tech is gonna take practice but we are making progress. Thanks for your comment!
