  • After a bit of a break, I'm back with a new video! This time, we'll explore how to make a simple #caftan. Or maybe it's not so simple!
I needed a quick-change theater costume to channel the Supremes, so I made this caftan (also known as kaftan) out of sequined fabric, but you can use any fabric for your caftan, from gauzy sheers for the beach to sequins or beads for a night out. This is an easy project that is beginner friendly, especially if you use fabric that doesn't fray. You can also adjust the length to make a caftan-style top or outerwear.
Let me know what you think! And thanks for watching.

I love the little scale model you used to explain the process. Thank you 😊

Yes, I needed that little model to fully understand the process, especially cutting the neckline. Thanks for watching!

The model at the beginning is everything. I have to see the whole before I can see the parts.

I'm so glad you benefitted from that little model. It really DOES help, and I've done it a few times to get my head wrapped around a project. Thanks for commenting!

Your opening demo is *perfection* it allowed me to visualize exactly what was going on, and I think it was a fantastic and thoughtful thought.

Wow, I love how you demonstrated what you were going to do! It's so easy to understand how it's made when you can see it in miniature. I've been sewing for years, but I still learned a ton from this video. The final caftan looks magical!

I'm glad you liked the miniature caftan demo! It helped me get my brain wrapped around how to fold and cut the neck. Thanks for watching!!
