    I bought the rascal a few weeks ago and am super impressed with it. I pulled the trigger knowing that I’d be dealing with stay at home order and I’m not about to do that without a new bike.
    I’ve ridden a 2019 Kona Process 153 for the past couple years and the rascal is definitely a bike I can ride 20+ miles without fatigue. In comparison to the process, my weight is more centered over the bb and it climbs a little faster. Descending I feel more centered and I feel that’s due in large part to the longer chainstay. Kona is a bottomless descender but rascal is faster and more stable.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing!! I noticed the same thing on the Rascal... just felt right on that bike... very stable and balanced!

    Beautiful bike, but incredibly expensive. I custom built my Ripmo and it's just so good and way cheaper than what Pivot offers. I also found that the Ripmo is way more agile than any other trail bike I've ridden, and still incredibly capable on the high speed tech descents. Just tune that suspension well.
    And thanks for your recommendation for the Lab Austere hip pack. Way more comfortable than my Dakine, and surprisingly a lot of storage. Best pack I've ever had

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Having owned both brands and currently owning a Ripmo I find it hard to believe the ripmo and switchblade are that different other than shock tunes. If you just close down the damping on the ripmo it feels a lot like the pivot tunes. With some shock damping and light tires the ripmo is a very good trail bike.

    • @RyuMoto
      @RyuMoto 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JamesWilliams-gf8gm I feel the Ripmo certainly feels more of a trail bike than anywhere close to an Enduro like it was marketed. I agree, very easy to make it a trail bike. I even added a 170 fork on mine and its still quite nimble in a not Enduro kind of way :)

    • @Manuel-en9pr
      @Manuel-en9pr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I own a Ripmo as well. I already put the Pivot demo day near me in my calendar. I am definitely going to try a Switchblade to see how it compares to the Ripmo.
      I am shocked about the price tag of Pivot bikes. They are definitely pricier than Ibis, Yeti or other boutique brands. The cheapest build is 5.5k for the XT Race Model. However, the only thing that is XT on that bike is the derailleur, everything else is SLX.

    Choice of bikes and what is a climber is subjective. Can you stay on it and pedal when the incline is steep 60-70 degrees?
    Which one makes you hop off first and walk it? Anyone of those can get you to the top IF you can keep the front end down. Both Pivot and Ibis have the dw link rear suspension.

    Hi Jason! Salutation from Quebec, Canada! Nice review like always!
    I've been riding a Rocky Mountain Instinct BC Edition since early 2018, and I'm ready for a change. I'm interested in the new Switchblade! My rear suspension had a 0.8 inch volume spacer, so I had a firmer performance. With the dw-link system, we are supposed to have more suspension than the figures indicate ... You who drove both, do you think that the new Switchblade is as efficient downhill despite its 142mm rear suspension if we compare it to the 155mm BC Edition ?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I think the Switchblade will feelas composed and capable as the Instinct BC Edition... very similar trail manners

    • @mariorock76
      @mariorock76 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hesitate a lot between the new Ripmo V2 and the Switchblade. I can not wait to see the comparative match ... The more steep degree of Swtichblade and its slightly shorter wheelbase makes it more playful and more agile in technical climb, in my opinion. It compares more to the Ripmo V1. Having 66 ° of head angle on my BC Edition, I really appreciate its versatility.

    Unfortunately, I don’t get the chance not even to see most of the bikes you demo.

    When I'm going "mach-chunder"... I prefer a 150mm travel and 27.5+... pressured down a little... just floatin' & gobblin' brah... always find it odd how you constantly suggest short travel 29ers for "one bike... do it all". At 6'0"... 187lbs... a 1BDA for me has to be in the 150mm range or higher.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The difference between 142mm and 150mm is 1/4 of an inch.... and honestly, a bikes ability has a lot more to do with the bike and shock tune than the actual suspension numbers. A good example would be the Rocky Mountain Instinct at 140mm doesn't feel near as capable as this Switchblade.

      With any chunky heavier riding or lift service, the switchblades going to feel more composed than the yeti in my experience.

    Have you ridden a Transition Sentinel? That's my current ride and falls in the same category as the switchblade I'd say; it's a 160/140 29er. I was always leery of how slack the Sentinel is, but from ride 1 I have absolutely loved the handling and climbing ability of the bike. I'd love to see your take on it. Hit up my channel for some thoughts on the Sentinel as well as several rides on it in the last 6 months. I'm anxious to hear your thoughts on the Live Valve system. Seems like a sweet system! Crazy expensive though.

      @@mtbyumyum I think I remember that LV review video, I'll have to go back and find it. I'm glad you spent time in this video just discussing how the bike rides. I was just curious as to how much the LV contributed to the feel of the ride since you said you did laps with it on and with it off. Are you going to do a video on that then too? And yeah if you've never ridden a Sentinel, you definitely need to check it out! I was always leery of how big it is but it does not act like a big bike out on the trail. I love it!

      You also have to understand mtb yumyum is only 145 lbs and the switchblade is a stout stiffer kind of bike designed to be smashed. I feel the harder you work this bike the more enjoyable it can be.

      I haven't ridden the Instinct with the fox 36 up front. I think they changed that a year ago. The original Instinct had a fox 34 and overall felt like a smaller bike then this switch blade or the ripmo or other bikes I mentioned in the video.

    Have you had any problems with the Switchblade's more conservative geometry? The Switchblade has a 66 degree HTA and a 75.5 degree STA but most new 29ers are more progressive than that. If I buy one, how much am I giving up not getting a more progressive 29er? For the record, I mostly ride blue square and black diamond trails; occasionally a double black diamond. Thanks!

      I rode the older switchblade and 429 with the same build back to back on the same trail. The switchblade with the shocks in the middle trail setting climbed pretty much like the 429 in open mode while using a seated steady pedal Cadence. If you like to stand up and charge there might be more of a difference.
