Great review. I'm loving my Swichblade I purchased off your review. So great on the downhill and uphill. Lot of roots here in Georgia and smooth flow. The SB eats it all up. You told me its just so" plush " You were spot on! Love it man!!

Great review. I have heard great things about Transition bikes, mostly the sentinel. They are one of the pioneers of the new geo.
Dude, Bill, geo is dialed on this bike... at first I thought it was a little long but it makes it more stable and this bike is happy at higher speeds!!

Living here in Bellingham almost every bike on the hill is a Transition, especially in the spring after they had a huge sale to make room for the new models ...THEY'RE EVERYWHERE! LOL. I really like that blue Spur....great video Jason.

MTB yumyum I would also love to hear your thoughts about the new Hei Hei vs. Spur. The Spur looks nice but does not Sound right for Danish tight trails with lots of small ups and downs and switch backs cornening where the Hei Hei seems to suit this type of terrain better. But I prefer the warranty Transition provides. And great content as always 👍👍🤟🤟

Cool review. Maybe this opens the door to more transition bike reviews. I’d really like to see your opinions on the new scout. 27.5 150/140. I have a 2018 scout and it’s fantastic bike. The spur sounds like a stiffer, a bit more capable version of the ripley, but maybe a touch less playful. Looking forward to the comparison.

Will be great also to see the performance of all of the bikes you ride in at least one different trail with different terrain, more chunky to see how capable are this bikes, and the limits of them, in my area for example there are tons of drops, stones , slow turns and switchbacks

Really dig my pivot trail429 it would be my recommendation your friend zach seemed to like the trail 429. Solid with a unique feel.
Yeah, the T429 is so good.... just a bit on the heavy side for a 120mm bike
@@mtbyumyum burley fo sure but that is one of the things i really like about it so stiff through rock gardens, burms an great balance. Could be lighter but at what cost idk i am 40lbs heavier. Dig ur reviews and have the same passion for mtb as u do, keep up the gd work.
I wish you still showed the hole run down jacobs and the lower trail you pick up a lot watching you on the bike and the commentary.
Yeah, I feel like I get a better review doing it this way... all pov and talking and riding was cool but sometimes my opinion would change after more time on the trail and I would always agree with myself once watching the footage...

Can't wait for the compare between the Ripley and Spur. I have a 2020 Ibis DV9, 2017 Transition Smuggler plus a fat bike for winter here in Michigan. I going to sell the Smuggler and the top 3 possible replacement are Ripley, Spur and Revel Ranger in that order. The Smuggler at 33lbs feels like a lead anchor compared to a 23lb hardtail and it accelerate so slow in comparison. It never really noticed it until getting a lighter bike that has fast acceleration.
Get the Ripley, don't look back. Perfect bike for MI (unless you only ride the flat XC trails like island lake or Addison oaks, then Id say sell the smuggler and stick the the DV9 only) . I know many others who bought the bike after I bought mine and they absolutely love it. one of my buddies just ordered a frame about 3 weeks ago but has to wait until OCT for delivery as they been sold out for a couple of months. build it light and you will have a super competitive bike that will easily handle any trial in MI. You will not exceed the bikes capabilities for our trails. Stick with 11 speed, (XTR with SRAM xx1 cassette awesome combo) no need for 12 here, light carbon rims, you will be able to built it to sub 25 lbs with dropper. I've been riding Ripleys for years, this year I found the perfect tire combination for damp and dry trails. Aspen rear (this tire has completely blown my mind. literally better grip than the aggressor in these condition, wish they made is in a 2.4 so I can try it in the front), XR4 front. Ripping fast, super grip and solid as F%&K! you'll blown away. good luck
@@zoubtube I ride the DV9 on the XC trails and the Smuggler on trials like Poto, Pontiac lake, Torn shirt ect. I usually make a couple rode trips a year to Marquette area or pisgah. The Smuggler has been good on those as well but the weight plus the pedalling platform is not as supportive as I'd like, too much petal bob. I am all about the short travel 29ers but way too many are getting too long and too slack. On the trials around here like Highland those long bikes are tough to navigate all the tight spots. Sounds like the perfect bike, how does it handle jump based flow trails like Eh Line? Not that I getting the bike specifically for that, I don't ride flow trails lime DTE all that much, more into hand built singletrack.

@@kevinrodger3756 "On the trials around here like Highland those long bikes are tough to navigate all the tight spots" Funny you mention highland,, I ride all of highland 3 days a week minimum, and I can finish it pretty damn quick. Contrary to popular believe, its not because I'm fast, I'm not! I'm an average guy who is conditioned to ride our trails on a bike that was designed to ride our kind of trails. This is what the Ripley does, It allows the average person who puts the added effort into conditioning themselves, to be more efficient on the trails it was designed for, which includes highland and basically every trial in MI. The bike climbs, peddles and handles incredibly well. I'm not kidding when I say that you will find your limitations, not the bikes. I haven't ridden the Ripley on eh line, but I have ridden it out west where they have huge elevation and long flowy and gnarley down hills. The Ripley handled it all just fine. On the very aggressive stuff I had to really pick my lines as the bike isn't designed to bomb down very aggressive terrain. but climbing was a hell of a lot easier for me then those around me! 😉 I haven't ridden the spur and I'm sure I'll rent it (along with the following V3) next time I'm out west. Here in MI, a short travel 29er is the perfect bike, and the Ripley with its DW link is the most efficient in that space that I've come across. build it to be more like and XC bike and you can't go wrong.

Looks very much like a YT izzo, pro race, 26lb and £4800. full X01 DT carbon wheels and RF finishing kit, full fox factory kashima. It's a blinding bike for the money. It also climbs superbly and descends at a fair pace too. Would like to see a comparison of a few of the new style ST 29ers.

I can't wait for the comparison but having those wide handlebars will definitely influence your opinion on cornering ability.

I had in mind this particular bike until I realized was out of my budget. Instead I got a salsa spearfish 2020 and I'm very happy about it. ☺️

I've been waiting for this review. I had a Spur on order but I got impatient and went with something completely different. A Mojo 4, which I think will suit my riding style better than the Spur. However, I'll likely order a Spur now, so that I'll get it in time for Spring.

@@Jacob99174 I only have one ride, but so far, it feels great! Mini-Ripmo (in all the best ways). Incredibly stable at speed, more of a bruiser in the chunk than I expected, but also super playful.

@@Jacob99174 I've been riding the V1 Ripmo for the last two years and wanted to try something totally different, so Reply wasn't on my list. I got the XLS build with carbon bars. The new Shimano stuff is so nice! The only thing I'll eventually change is swapping to carbon wheels.

Jason, thanks for the great content! off-topic: I have a Ripley v 4 (and love it) I just updated my wheels and hubs and am looking to try a different tire than the Nobby Nic/hans dampf. I'm about to pull the trigger on the DHR2 (front) and Rekon (rear). I noticed your transition had the dissector (front) and Rekon (rear). Which of those combo's do you recommend? I want a good all-around font and rear - better cornering than HD/NN and just as fast or faster rolling. Thanks in advance
Yeah, that's an excellent combo. I've got over 500 miles on the dissector/ rekon combo and very happy w it. Faster rolling and still good traction would be rekon 2.4 front ardent race 2.35 rear... might give it a try for fast trail riding!!
Weight is impressive. Ive been riding Ibis bikes since 2010. They are arguably the best all around trail bike made today. I find it interesting to hear you somewhat rave on this bike. Hmmm 🤔🤔🤔

Buying a Sentinel V2 was the best decision ever. I’ve owned numerous bikes from Trek, Specialized, Giant, Yeti and the Transition is by far the best out of all of them.

Hey Jay, you really kind of glove-slapped the Spur recently in one of your live videos and I'm wondering why. Listening to you here it sounds like exactly what I'm looking for, a bike that's an all-day rider and not a mach-chicken downhiller because I don't ride those trails or do that. I'm too old, I'll break if I come off at 30mph! I'm looking for efficiency coupled with a pleasant feel, maybe more level & uphill oriented than fast downhilling.
It was a real toss up between the Spur and Ripley for me, I took the Ripley in the end because of the 130 fork set up and neater brake cable routing. Didn’t quite like the cable running on top of the BB on the Spur. Great review!

Yeah I pick up my spur tomorrow and just realized this. Can't believe on a bike in 2021 that costs 6 grand all the cables are not internalized. It's all good though :) As long as I get back to riding since my current bike was stolen.

Nice review. I can tell your holding back on this bike. Your reluctant to say it might be as good or better. NO big deal, but It's in your body language when your comparing. Can you attest to issues with it having a low bottom bracket? I have some technical climbs that might be an issue. I have a spur on order. I just went for it. If anything I can get 170 cranks I guess.
No pedal strikes yet... felt good. Any hesitation on the Spur was not knowing if some of the long feeling of the bike and "slight lack of playfulness" was due to the 800mm bars...
@@mtbyumyum Makes sense. I would probably cut down the bars myself. 800mm would be too wide for where I ride. I have some narrow trees. I'm ok with a little more stability and a "little less playfulness". I like to go a faster these days and my 2015 rocky mountain gets a bit sketchy when getting up to speed.. also trying to alleviate that short cockpit if feel on older bikes.The length or perceived room I am looking for. Can't wait for the bike!
Hi, loved this review, and have my Spur ordered. You had the demo setup with 3zero moto’s but you didnt really mention those? Wondered if you liked them on the Spur or if you thought they took away some of the bikes sharpness? Pretty sure you said something wasn’t as ‘sporty’ as you were expecting, maybe the wheels?
hope your staying safe. still hoping for Devinci Troy 29 first ride review, just interested in your point of view. Just pick the troy up couple of weeks ago and this is my mini review, it climbs well and i haven't had to reach for the lockout lever even once, it is maneuverable, it feels like a mini enduro that pedels well. The only down side is that it is chunky and only a 2.4 rear tire. the rear tire thing don't bother me, i am probably going to put a faster rolling tire at the back.It kind of reminds me the way you described the new pivot switchblade, witch makes sense because they the similar geo, the biggest difference is probably the way they tune the suspension ( DW-Link vs Split Pivot ). i am happy with it essentially for the price, it cost me 4199 cad witch is 3153.93 usd and for that you get a pike select + with charger 2.1, code r brakes, full gx eagle groupset, a good novatec rear hub with 84 points of contact.

Nice, i have a 2019 RM Instinct BC with 160/155 and a few upgrades like Mavic XA Carbon wheels, RF carbon bars and lighter seat, now its just under 30, if i upgraded to XX-1 i would drop nearly another pound from GX. I have been thinking of getting a shorter travel bike, do you like the Rock Shox suspension compared to the Fox? I assume for that travel would be spec. with the Fox 34? I think Clint Gibbs has/had a few Transition bikes and he liked them. I really dont need 160/155 of travel 100% of the time so maybe i do some checking into that

Great review! You said your 5'8, but what size bike and your inseam? I'm 5'7 with only a 28" inseam so 29ers are usually way too tall. However, I do know Transition makes some low stand over bikes.
30" inseam... you'd likely need to run a 125mm dropper

How would you compare the Spur to the Tallboy V4? I m currently on a Transition Throttle and love it , I gave up on Full suspension bikes about a year ago could not find one that would climb at least the way I liked similar to my HT. Ripmo, High Tower, Trek Fuel EX 9.9, Pivot Mach6
The Spur has that same sporty get up and go that the Ripley, Mach4 sl and Pivot T429 has... the tb4 isn't as sporty.... more trail/enduro

Stepping away from a "Hi-Tech Carbon Machine" mindset & moving toward the "Lively Feel" category, Where do these awesome machines rate in comparison;
Spur, Ripley, Rascal, Switchblade, Mojo, Tallboy...? I'm convinced that has a lot to do with the "Fun-Factor".
In your list, the Mojo and Ripley are the most lively although, the fun factor is killer on the Rascal, Tallboy and Switchblade as well.

How do you feel it compares to the SB100? I know you’ve ridden both and I was thinking of swapping my SB100 to the Spur. I have an SB150 as well, so I like having a shorter travel, much lighter bike for those fast paced rides. Thanks!
SB100 is more flexy and less stable... I'd go Spur for sure!!

This bike blows my whole financial formula for a trail bike out of the water. $6k @ 25lbs ... just wow!!!

Michael Glidewell really quick look at, between this and Ripley, the weight savings comes from SID sus and tires
@@Jacob99174 there's gotta be more to it than that because if I recall correctly, @MTB yumyum had to upgrade to carbon wheels on the Ripley to get it to 26lbs so something like $7k @ 26 lbs which fits my formula ($5k for 28 lbs, $1k per lb taken off after that) ... 25 lbs with alloy wheels for $6k, I don't know how they're doing it but I like it
@@mtbyumyum As you know, there are a number of great riding short-travel 29ers today. I just bought an Epic Evo Expert ($6k, 25 lbs) and it rocks!

Ibis Ripley with a 140mm fork is just about the perfect "do everything" trail bike that is still on the light weight side and very efficient climbing.

I haven't ridden the sb115 but its basically a sb100.... there is in my opinion zero reasons to go with the sb115.... hta is terrible for trail riding. Easy decision, get the Ripley or Spur

Three things about this Bike : 1. All great comments and Reviews about Transition are 150% True !
2. It is an xxxtremely capable and fun Short Travel 29er .
3 If you want a Transition Spur right now you have to wait a few more months because right now are Zero Stock , but I can assure that you won´t be dissapointed .
3. I just bought one yesterday so there are still some around.
Thinking the Spur is a closer match to bikes like the Top Fuel, Epic Evo and RKT 9 RDO, rather than the Ripley. Ripley is more versatile (i.e. front fork 120-140mm with a $28 air spring). Spur is locked in a 120mm, that's it except the shock can go to 100mm. Ripley more in line with the bikes like Stumpy ST, Jet 9 RDO, Fuel Ex and other 120/130 bikes just to name a few!. It should make for an interesting comparison, although it's apples to oranges. Spur more XC/trail, Ripley more Trail that can do XC and maybe some light enduro, if their is such a thing! 120mm up front only goes so far!
