In this video I show some videos from the cash for clunkers program this case it was a mint FJ62 with 77k miles they turned it and they tried to make the engine seize up.
The Toyota 3FE engine is the 4.0L Straight Six found in the FJ62 and the FJ80 Land Cruisers, arguably the most reliable engine ever built.

From LC80 to 45 series cruisers are so far the best overland/off-road machines. Had jeeps and rovers and NON of them kept up with LC's
...the rest where so touchy with maintenance.
I have a friend who worked at a recycler, and his job was to drive the cars to the crusher, so he would drain the oil, pour water or sand in the engine and rev it until it blew up. He told me that only 3 engines could run without oil forever: Toyota 3FE, AMC 4.0 inline 6, and Ford 300.
I was a mechanic in a dealer when this program was running and I had the same thinking of trying to find which engine lasted longer. In my case I did not had to kill a toyota land cruiser but in total after several dozens, a couple of hundreds in the dealer, the quicker was a buick V6 that barely even cranked. And the longest was a BMW 7 which lasted aprox 6 to 7 minutes. Interesting video

Why would someone want to intentionally destroy a 3fe. Its like killing dodos. I really love my truck. For real if the 3fe was built for speed the 2jz might have met its match

I wanted to put a thumbs down because this hurt to watch, but I don't want to ruin your metrics. Seriously though that was super painful. I have a 92 80's series but the 60's series has always been a dream.

Bet that person is kicking themselves now for getting rid of that fj60. In that condition was that low of miles that's probably worth about 15 to 20 grand nowadays.

One time my 3fe chewed up a rod and spit it into the oil pan and it still was driving around with the piston bouncing off the crank

The 1FZ engine is more reliable than the 3F.
We install Garrett turbos and boost them with 14PSI and they still going.

Some old 4's are more performance oriented as well and only get 17-20 mpg. I wonder what the cutoff will be. Absolutely a travesty because the name was a lie. A clunker barely runs. He took good vehicles off the road!

3fe and 1fz are so damn good, my 3fe has 270k and 1fz has 375k
Ive got a 62 series with 705.000km and runs like new, 2nd owner for 25 years, just had to fix some oil leaks on it, thats all thats been done to it.
Slow but will go forever.
Thats just plain wasteful and stupid, recking engines and cars like that. No logical reason for it. That Cruiser is worth a LOT more in the second hand market!
