I apologize for my ignorance during the making of this video... the 105 & 70 Series LC still have a Solid Front Axle I meant no disrespect to all the other countries that received those wonderful vehicles
One last thing mate... You've researched some great 80 info over time, but could you please try saying TOY-ota ? It's never been TEE in any language, as you keep saying.
Mate , I have had a 1HZ 80 for the last 25 years and I love it to this day. Only problem is everyone wants to buy it off me -) You guys over there only got the petrols, my slow and steady diesel is legendary for reliability. In a quarter of century it has NEVER let me down. It has always got me home. G'day from Perth Western Australia
My 80 series used to be petrol but now it has a 6.5ltr Chev Cobra V8 Turbo ( Humvee Spec ) .... it now has proper torque and power that it really deserved .
Thanks for the nice video. Yes, as pointed out below the 105 has solid axles and was produced until 2007. Several variations, very rare in the US I understand. UN used them in large numbers, well known in SA, Russia, Aus and all over the developing world. So people like to say it's an 80 underneath and a 100 on top. Mine has triple lockers, 4.2L diesel manual, air bags, full time 4x4, 1HZ engine, 2 tanks as standard. It's underpowered, lacking character perhaps, but it's the dog's bollocks for long distances in rough conditions.
He, He, My FJ60 still makes 120 KPH on a straight away. And the 80's (4.5 Lts Gas Engine and 5Spd Std Tranny) run circles at more than 180 Kph arround me
I'm in Melbourne Australia and have a 1992 FJ80R DX model or as I'm told it's called the "Povo Pack" as it has vinyl flooring, 1hz non-turbo diesel, 5sp manual free-wheeling hubs and No electric windows, No locking diffs, No 3rd row seats or sliding windows etc..... but I love it and it does me what I want from it as a daily driver and tourer. It has however got a 2.5" lift and 33's, rock sliders, bullbar and winch which is pretty much all I need for it.
The U.S. spec FZJ80 was only available with a 4-speed automatic, A442 and A343 respectively if I'm not mistaken. . A 5-speed manual was offered in other markets outside the U.S. for the 80 series. The 5-speed automatic came along in late 2002 for the 2003 model year of the UZJ100. Early 92 production FZJ80 models came with drum brakes in the rear, some had semi-float rear axles and up until 95, ABS was an optional. These oddball models are few and far between as most U.S.-spec cruisers were ordered with almost all of the available options at the time. Good basic introduction video to the 80 series! It gets very technical after the basics for the 80 series platform.
I just bought a 92’ Land Cruiser 100% rust free (desert truck) for $3,000. Runs great, we just did a 350 miles road trip on deep snow and I am in love with the 80 series. I’m looking for a TDI swap because the gas mileage is awful. A TDI can put out 180whp and 330wtq. (Better than the 150/227 from the 4.0 3FE).
This is not really a true statement, my fzj80 Australian delivered has 570,000 km, the 1fz-fe is a very nice, smooth, gutsy and reliable engine, it's every bit a proper 80 series landcruiser.
Thanks for this video. I've held on to my 95 FZJ80 as a second car for many years now. Almost sold it a couple times. Glad I still have it and I've been enjoying taking special care of it lately. It only has 140K miles on it, so the rising value has gotten my attention. Probably just going to keep it and enjoy the ride though. I like the new found interest in these vehicles. It's funny to me that I'm still learning more about them today. I'm finally paying attention!
Small correction, in Venezuela these were build until 2007, I currently have a 2006, manual version. Mainly the Fzj 80. 4.5l 24v. They are by far the most popular off-roader here. Luckily fuel only costs .50c/l!
Best explaination about Land Cruiser particularly the 80 so far, you really know your stuff buddy. cheers from Malaysia, all LC cost a bomb right here. Not to mention the yearly road tax cost
What would the advantage be for the 91 and 92? The description of that engine appealed to me. I'm a no frills guy and don't want to do any rock climbing, etc.
The 1FZ-FE 4.5L is a piece of art. Do the head gasket at 200K and they last forever. Treat yourself to a SS set of 2-1 headers and gain some power. So smooth! The LX450 is truly a luxurious beast.
You can buy a Venezuelan FZJ80 that was produced until 2008. It will be very expensive but they were extremely popular here to continue production well after everyone else moved to the 100 and so on.
Those are still made for South Africa, Australia, UAE but they do not meet requirements for Europe emmisions (although there are a few companies that convert them) and are newer than 25 years and can not be imported into the US. I know about them, i just can't have them where i live.

HDJ80 is the by far the best model 80 series. Came with the 1HDT, which is a 4.2ltr turbo diesel. I have a 93' HZJ80, with the 4.2ltr diesel which is the second best. The 1HZ is more reliable than the 2&3f engines from the 60 series
Looking at a very stock 94’ today. Not triple locked but babied. I don’t even think it has a Ctr Lock. Thoughts? I was thinking of building it up and adding ARB lockers ect.
My preference 1994 FZJ80: better engine, no abs / airbag = can put on whatever bull bar I like (no paper thin engineered $3,000 bull bar) overall it has less complexity
are the FZJ80 comes with factory stock center diiff locker???? i know the rear and front diff where optionals, but not sure if all fjz was stock in al tlc's.
I still got mine 4.5 1996 LC.. a gift from my mom boss for $500.00 and is in the garage with a many boxes from the old crib and a Charizard card somewhere lol... but yea start it today sound better the the Subaru outback 2019 i4 I'm driving.
Would you be willing to let it go to a new home? I’ve been looking at 80 series LCs for a few years now. I’m still very young so I’m saving and spending money on more important things but if I had the opportunity to get one I would jump at it.
Hello...I have just bought a FJ80 1991 and some enthusiasts bash it for not having locking diffs...Is it still Off Road worthy? I live in Baja an intend to do some mild off roading...
a bit of Correction, the 80 can run 46´ tires but at risk of braking the front diff but it has good axles the 60 is the other way around where the diff is strong but axles weak and transmissions are a weak point of the 80
Nice video even tho i wanted to know from you wich to buy. In my country de go from 5k to 7k dollars and the diesel ones 10k. One question is this better than the fj60?

Fzj80 has been built until 2007. Mine is from 2004. Very nice truck.
J80 was made upto 1999. The 100/105 took over from 2000-2007
@@liamcooper5202 You're wrong, J80 was made up to 2007! Mine is from 2004.
@@sylvainlanctinfr6616 ah yes sorry. In Venezuela it was. All other markets it would appear to end in 97. Dont know why i said 99
@@liamcooper5202 Venezuela, Colombia and Bolivia. Built in Venezuela.
@@sylvainlanctinfr6616 the but fucks of nowhere, earth. 🤣 all good
Got a question for you did any of them come with the 5 speed manual
What about the 105 series Land Cruiser? That also has a solid front axle
LS swaps for them when they finally give up the ghost seems like a good solution.
I have a 97lx450,but the rear locker can not work,it's super workhouse. My next dream car it t100 trunk
I've had a 96 LX450 for 7 years and want to restore the interior. Any recommendations where I may find parts? Ebay, pick 'n pulls, ??
Hi I have this land cruiser with me.the engine is 4.5litre petrol.the problem is the inside cabin and gear box get heated and I can feel the heat under me and my left size leg as this one is right hand steering.please let me know how I can stop or reduce the heat coming inside as some people says it Commons in these but some says no
HDJ80 is the by far the best model 80 series. Came with the 1HDT, which is a 4.2ltr turbo diesel. I have a 93' HZJ80, with the 4.2ltr diesel which is the second best. The 1HZ is more reliable than the 2&3f engines from the 60 series
Please compare them with bj 80 (Diesel version with 1hdt 4.2L Diesel engine) if you have any idea related to them like pros and cons
Damn here an hdj80 would start from around 30k usd lol the US market seems still under value the truck. Good for you guys!
Youre tires and wheels look good..LX 450 wheels ? Goodyear Duratrac?? what size are yours? Did you do any lift? TIA
Don't forget the 105 series! my 2004 105 has the 100 series body on the 80 series chassis - not sure if it was sold outside Australia, though?
are the FZJ80 comes with factory stock center diiff locker???? i know the rear and front diff where optionals, but not sure if all fjz was stock in al tlc's.
The “Best” would be the 1994 locked poverty pack.
You didn't mention that there are posi-trac kits for front and rear diffs that eliminate the need & cost of the factory lockers.
Great video man...👍
Thank you brotha!
miss the content man! do you have more repair videos planned
Wait so the US never got any of the diesel versions?
Hi what front bumper guard is that?? I just bought a 91 fj80 two tone with 345k! Love your vids
Hey man I’ve been offered a 95 4.2 diesel manual with diff lock and 133 k miles. I drove and I loved it. What do you think about it?
The owner wants 48 grand
It’s also 4WD 24 valve with dual fuel tank. It is insanely complete
Hello...I have just bought a FJ80 1991 and some enthusiasts bash it for not having locking diffs...Is it still Off Road worthy? I live in Baja an intend to do some mild off roading...
what is your opinion about 1985 fj land cruiser series
the 60 series is my dream car, so I personally love them
a bit of Correction, the 80 can run 46´ tires but at risk of braking the front diff but it has good axles the 60 is the other way around where the diff is strong but axles weak and transmissions are a weak point of the 80
Nice video even tho i wanted to know from you wich to buy. In my country de go from 5k to 7k dollars and the diesel ones 10k. One question is this better than the fj60?
Get diesel if you can, what country are you in?
@@LNDCRUZIN Guatemala. And this series are the ones that are in good condition probably gonna get one cause the fj55 is ecoebsive and bot many parts
Pues Adrián yo creo que el diésel sería el mejor en los estados son muy caros casi 25k usd
@@LNDCRUZIN gracias por el consejo
Yo my hand me down vehicle is the triple locked 97 40 edition lmao. Gonna be working on it this summer
Great Truck!
We're lucky here in aus ive got a 1996 1hz turbo diesel at the age of 16
97 lc hard to find one i see one sell for $13999 no run . i buy one 93 lc for $700 now run good i put arb rocker front and back
Duuudeee that is awesome! I bet you can go anywhere with that thing!
You would be surprised to know that in my country that model came out until 2007 and they were sold automatic and also manual transmission
Where are you from?
@@LNDCRUZIN Venezuela, came out the same ones that are in your description from 91 to 2007, the first 2 years 3f engine and then up to 95 I think with carburettor and from 96 to 2007 it has 4500 injection function, here we call it the "indestructible" engine, here 2 versions came out, the Spanish models are "autana" (basic) and la (bubble) (Full Luxury model with fridge) but mechanically both are the same, I have a Fzj80 year 98

No, it wasn't the last ... The "last" was 105 ... And actually 76 is still produced :-)
Thank you brotha! Still learn new things every day 😅
I have a 2009 76 Series. Solid front axle. The 70 Series are still made and available in 2021 in Australia, Africa, and here in the Middle East. Actually, the 70 Series is even better than the 80 Series. 80 series was a luxury wagon. Still great, but it was a luxury version.
True lol 76 and 79s is where its at !
he specifically says talking about vehicle here in the states. well all know the 70 series and 105 came with solid axles. The person looking to pick up a used 80 isn't about to find any of those unobtanium rigs here. If you really want to troll you should have brought up the protype 200 series with a solid axle Toyota was testing in Australia.
@@TrustedHomeInspection well ... people watch this video not only in US but all over the world :) ... e.g. I'm from Ukraine ... didn't even intent to troll someone :)
