I felt the nervousness of this lady wasn't helped by the lack of warmth by the audience? Not only is she presenting in her second language, this may have been one of her first larger talks. I think she did a fantastic job in relating the fundamentals to the present.Well done, Julie ❤

It is a notable thing. Ususally i dont really determine everyone has to surface any remote resentment, just study to observe and to have a better reality of expression. I do understand tho, there can be a little notable hand in appreciation. I still determined its remarkable.
To those who are criticizing this young woman, you already know that English is not her first language: How many languages are you able to speak, and to an audience about such a subject?
"We did not learn to be accepted upon arousal during joy. We did not have training during this discipline." ; "Most of us train ourselves in the ways how we work... we train our bodies, we train our brains, we train our minds... we train our breaths and voices..."; "We also program ourselves."
I found a lot of what she said very informative and extremely helpful.
Give this woman credit. She has obviously done the research and despite the fact that she may appear so nervous, this is practice. You may just be witnessing her in practice. Hold her up instead of criticizing her. What she has done here is to help people. Think about what you have done lately that requires courage and strength and intellect before you put someone else down.

Refreshing to hear a female voice speak so deeply and frankly on this topic. Her nervousness felt to me like this message was really challenging and important to her. I'm glad she had the courage and tenacity to see this talk through. Helpful to me to listen to it.

Just stop it. Nobody listening chose the speaker or knew what she had to say or her ability to convey her thoughts. That wasn't their job. It was TED's job. This was really pretty horrible. Pretty lady, but horrible presentation...

I felt the need to help people with encouragement and masturbation. We learn that it's acceptable, but it's so much more than that. It's amazing. We are often happy for our friends when they hook up with that person they've had a crush on. We are happy to see their relationships and excited for them when it becomes intimate. However, who celebrates an accomplishment when a friend really has an amazing masturbation session? Who would ever tell anyone they did?
It was so rewarding to start a group that was public at first until about 50 of us realized that we shared a bond by being supportive and encouraging about each other's masturbation. To my surprise, about half of the members are women. The effects of having someone give a positive comment about masturbation are astounding on the enthusiasm that results after someone says "go do it well" or something like "we all hope you have an amazing session and take your time to enjoy yourself fully".
What a beautiful person! So brave, confident and personable. And also a topic rarely discussed. It really made me think.

I totally unexpectedly clicked on this video.. ;-) Some of the comments are negative about the way she delivered the speech..I kind of felt that in giving this talk on a delicate subject in a foreign language exposed her in a way , perhaps similar to that of what she talked about and therefore her being nervous also gave her authenticity. Sure, she could have had notes or practiced or whatever (And I can relate to her nervousness as a University student in a foreign country, who had to give a "mini lecture" just last week in French (I am Icelandic)), but I had the feeling this was a real person sharing something she cares about deeply, deeply enough to not let a language barrier or fear stop her from delivering it. And she´s so beautiful as well.. So applause. and thanks for these unexpectedly captivating 25 minutes.

TED talks are declining in relevance and value, and this is hardly a taboo topic. Any physician or counselor, therapist deals with this often.

Just because it's common with those particular jobs doesn't mean it's not "taboo" in some way, at least in U.S. culture that is mostly based on what some may call "Christian values".

It’s true about Czech being open minded. I had a Czech g/f for a while and she was amazing. No reservations at all.
One of the best comments I ever heard on masturbation was while I lived and worked in France for a number of years. if a car or a washing machine etc breaks down, a Frenchman would say it is "en panne" - that's the expression they use. It is broken down. The process of getting it fixed up again is to "depanne" it. That doesn't mean to take it to pieces and replace the damaged gearwheel and get it in a condition to run the next 20 years - no, to "depanne" your machine is just to fix it up enough to go again, maybe with a more permanent repair at some point in the future. At work one day, somebody made a humorous comment about masturbation, and one of my French colleagues, Jaques, said "Ah, oui, ca depanne" - Ah yes, it fixes you up again. It gets you temporarily back on the road. The remark was unexpected and funny - and one of the most sensible things I have ever heard on the subject.
