Fantastic video, but I have a few comments. Like several have already said, that's the brake pad wear sensor, not a speed sensor. Second, there is really no reason to "bleed" the brakes if all you are doing is replacing the pads. It's a closed system, no way for air to get into the system merely because you compressed the slave cylinder. But even if I was bleeding the brakes, have your assistant pump up and hold the brakes, THEN crack open the bleed valve. Before the remove their foot from the pedal, close the valve and then repeat. NEVER have them pump the brakes while you have the bleeder valve open! You are running the risk of introducing air back into the system from the bleeder valve. Beyond that, great video!!
A couple things. No need to bleed the brakes. If you do bleed them, you shouldn't pump, but open the bleeder, then slowly push the pedal down, when the pedal is almost to the floor, close the bleeder. You also must use the recommended order, each vehicle is different.On an LR3 start with the furthest from the master cylinder, and work forward. Lastly always pull the caliper slides out, clean them and relubricate. The area where the pads ride should also be lubricated. Use brake caliper slide grease. It is also a good idea to at least scuff the rotors slightly with emery paper so the new pads break in correctly. I am a 28 licensed tech, great video!
If that stupid pad sensor is tripping, I can see why he would change them early. Mine still look pretty good, but I’m changing them because that alert is driving me crazy!

Thanks for this great video! I just changed the front pads on my Discovery 4 (2013 model). It all went very smoothly. I would just mention that, on my car, a wear sensor was fitted only on the driver side (Left Hand Drive model). The sensor was already broken off when I removed the caliper so I will need to replace that too.
You're welcome and you are right it is called a wear sensor I was talking too fast and call it a speed sensor. Those things are known to break but they're pretty easy to repair. Thanks for watching you have a nice day.

I got my first LR - a Discovery 3 last August - it needed a couple of things doing. Surprisingly a lot of stuff is covered by the great videos ‘Oxmanagain’ makes and by the really great landrover disco forums. I just watched Oxmanagain’s brake pad change video before doing mine . Last week having researched the forums I fixed a common fault on the rear hatch of the vehicle . It cost just pennies to fix but saved me a couple of hundred pounds in garage charges . What I am trying to say is - the landrover is a fantastic machine in every way so if you do go ahead and get one you will not regret it 😎😎😎
Stop calling it a speed sensor wire lol Also, grease your slider pins and mounting hardware before sliding the pads in. Just 2 cents. Great DIY though!
First off thanks for watching, the brake sensor is the piece that I called the speed sensor. It's very simple its one bolt and you take it off one bolt put it back in and you just clip it in.
No bleeding needed., unless you replacing the caliper kit with rubber Orings an stuff, just to put a small hose on the bleeder end, and the other side of the small hose to a can of brake fluid .Zero waste or spelling of brake fluid, it all go back to the can of brake fluid while bleeding. Hello there. When I went to replace front brake pad sensors, I saw that there was no sensor on the front passenger caliper. It also appears thete is no wiring to plug a sensor in to on that side. This is a 2006 LR3 HSE. Is this normal? I was able to change the drivers side as evetything was where it was supposed to be. Thanks

Good video but at the very end where you say to top up the brake fluid, I believe you are showing the steering fluid container. The brake fluid container is inside the auxillary battery box at the back
You can buy a brake fluid catcher that has a hose that you place on the bleeder nipple. Do the brake pump and hold like you did but keep doing it until the fluid comes out clear after adding fresh fluid to the resevoir. Works great! I'd also recommend at minimum to take the rotors and have them resurfaced.
It was a while ago but I believe I bought these brake pads from Land Rovers parts website. If you go to their website it's a lot cheaper than if you go to the dealer.
I use wooden railroad ties. Cut them into foot long pieces with a good saw or chainsaw and you can put any vehicle on them. I've used them on 1 ton diesel trucks without issues. Just use a few of them to distribute the weight and you're good to go.

You're right bleeding the brakes is a requirement when you do change the calipers or if you have a leak in your system. I like to do it to just ensure that there is zero air and the brakes are working at their most effective.

Great guide! The only thing - the sensor on the left side is not the speed sensor, it is a wear sensor - gives you a warning once it hits the rotor when the break pad is getting over. UPD: sorry, I haven't read the description. You've put a note already 👍🏻
Hey man it's me again. Thanks for the great video. But I need your help again. I did all my pads and rotors following your instructions. Drove the car for 4 days. Today while driving, all my suspension sat down and I got an alert saying normal suspension suspended. Can't drive over 30 mph. What do you think is the problem. Thanks!
@@krush_it6650 I believe you have to go to the dealer to have that test it out but what you can do is if it happens again turn your car off restart it and if everything is working that is an indication that it is the terrain Response Unit.
The rear brakes are a little different because there's also brake shoes. You have to take the rotor off to replace your brake shoes. Ben, changing the brake pads is very similar. Thanks for watching if you have anymore questions feel free to ask.
Great easy to follow video, thanks for taking the time to make it. I have a couple of questions as I have to change my disco 3 brake pads. 1. Do you have to bleed the brakes when changing the pads or do you only need to bleed them if you let air into the system? 2. If you do have to bleed them, should the bleed screw be closed again before the person raises their foot off the pedal and then open the screw before they press and hold down again. It is a good idea to bleed the brakes after you do a brake change. You open the bleeder valve. Then, the person pumps the brakes about 2 to 3 times and holds down as far as they can on the last pump. Then, you tighten the screw to the bleeder valve and then you moved to the other side. Thanks for watching I appreciate the support.
Great video, hope you don't mind but at around 8:12 you mention the speed sensor, this is actually the brake pad wear sensor, when the lump wears against the rotor it grinds through the wire causing an open circuit which flags up the warning light. The speed sensor, or ABS sensor is located adjacent to the hub.

That's a good question. If it's broken you can easily fix it, you just follow the wire and unplug the harness and then install the new one. I would say if it is broken the Rover just wouldn't tell you how fast your pads are wearing now. But it would bigger a good idea to fix the sensor.

It is not a speed sensor, that is the brake pad sensor which tells you that you need to replace your brakes.

this is not the speed sensor, it is the brake sensor. When your brake is low it will tell you that you need a new brake.

Needle nose vise grips is what I use instead of a wrench and holds the bolt great so I can get the 13mm bolts out.

I cheat lol...I have 22" rims on my rover and don't have to jack up and take rims off I can do it while there on the vehicle and its pretty easy!

It sounds like it could be your Terrain Response Control Switch is acting up.
@@oxmanagain makes sense. How do I test for that. To see if it is that. Will a code test tell me exactly?
