  • Disclaimer: This video is not a tutorial. It is only a record of how I go about replacing the rear brake discs and pads on my LR Discovery 3. Film also includes Electronic Parking Brake adjustment. Credit: For much of the work, I followed the excellent "Bodsy's Brake Bible", which is available to download from the Disco3.co.uk forum . . . media.disco3.co.uk/gallery/al...
One thing I didn't show in this video is the Electronic Parking Brake Bedding in process. After fitting the new rear discs and adjusting the Parking Brake, it is necessary to bed the brake shoes in. To do this, place in "Park", run the engine, and press the brake pedal down three times. Then, hold the pedal down on the third press. With brake pedal down, pull the Parking Brake switch up four times, then push it down three times (all within about 10 seconds). If successful, there is a notification on the dashboard that bedding in can now take place. Now, drive at between 19mph and 29mph (I aim for 25mph) and pull up on the Parking Brake switch until the car stops. This needs to be done ten times (with a break of about 60 seconds between each drive). Stopping the engine or driving more the 30mph will cancel the bedding in process. If it is impossible to activate the bedding in process, then an option is to drive at below 7mph while holding the Parking Brake switch up.

Should have slacked the adjuster off for the brake shoes through the disc before trying to hammer off next time. Just some advice

I agree. For some reason, I'd thought that putting the car into Park Brake Service Mode at the start automatically pulled the brake shoes in, but I don't think it did. Then, of course, once I was into the job, with my head down cracking on, I didn't think to make life easier by using the adjuster, I just got to it with the hammer. All a learning experience as it's not a job I'd done before, so will know better next time.

Hi, I really appreciated your video, I was wondering if the procedure for putting the EPB into services mode is the same for the Discovery 4, that it doesn't have the key but the ignition button? Thnaks

I'm sorry, I do not know the answer to that. I would suggest that you join the excellent Disco3 forum, where there is a section for Disco 4 owners. I'm sure someone there will know the answer and will help. Here's the link: www.disco3.co.uk/forum

Regarding my car Disco 4 SDV6 the EPB does not activate automatically but with the engine off the gearbox goes into parking mode and therefore this would prevent the rear disc adjustment

As I do not know the differences between the Disco 3 and 4, I do not know what to suggest to you, other than to look on the forum I mentioned earlier. Also, if you search TH-cam for Land Rover Discovery 4 rear discs and brake pads replacement, I see there are a few videos that might be helpful. Good luck.
