    I love sedans, im not a big wagon fan. So to see that I could get a modern Subie Impreza like this just like the originals makes me excited.

    This car has longitudinal engine, AWD and still starts below $20K. If you wanna buy a RWD car with 4 doors, it starts at $30-35K. Such huge premium.

    I test drove the Impreza a few times. I REALLY liked the car but my reservation with it was that it seemed that the seating was lower than other cars I test drove (Forte, Elektra and Mazda 3). I'm 70 years old and didn't notice a problem with ingress and egress with the three cars mentioned but did notice that in and out with the Impreza, while doable, was a bit more strenuous. Has anyone else noticed a difference?
    I ended up buying a Crosstrek and I'm VERY happy.

    • @5610winston
      @5610winston ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not 70, but yes. I found the few inches of ground clearance made a big difference for passengers with compromised mobility.
      I settled on Subaru because of its reputation and the Impreza/Crosstrek platform for the available manual transmission. The salesman asked me why I wanted a manual, (I'm used to manuals, I'm comfortable with manuals, I prefer manuals, I need the exercise, and if you have to ask, you will never be able to understand). He laughed and took my order and deposit. Delivery expected in April.
      I have two Norwegian Elkhounds and the rear-seat will accommodate them nicely with the pet restraints.
      I'm getting the Crosstrek in "Pure Red".
      Remember, you can sell a young man's car to an old man, but you'll never sell an old man's car to a young man.

    I just don't understand how my 21 year old impreza has more power at a lower rpm. Yeah I have the GC6 version but I still think it's pathetic that subaru can't advance anything in over 20 years. My car also gets 26-27 mpg with a/c on.
    This is why I ended up not buying one because there brand is living off the cult reputation from the dino days and not innovation.

    • @tahsin28
      @tahsin28 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They needed to add shit ton of safety structural and equipment wise. And make it bigger and more comfortable inside. Increased weight. To reduce emissions and increase economy they purposely reduced output at lower rpms. Well civic and others don't need to do tht so tldr subs suck now. Idk wat their focus is but its definitely opposite to what it was.

    I’m a big sedan fan too. I think it is a marketing strategy for the manufacturers to push the SUV bc they are more expensive. That being said, Subaru would do so much better if they just changed their design even just a little bit. They’ve looked the same for over twenty years. Great cars though.

    No Lumbar? Subies were one of the earliest cars to offer lumbar back in 1980. Subaru’s engines have always had that unique sounding engine when accelerating and I love that grunt it has. Dating back to mom and dads 1978 DL Sedan with 60HP in the automatic. We would go up the Snowiest Steepest hills of West Fitchburg (second Hilliest City to San. Fran. in America) while others were forced to stay home or park down the bottom of the hills. Then they had to walk to the cars after the plow finally came to shovel their cars out of the Snow walls caused by the plows. Only other vehicles coming up the hills and hardly anyone had a Jeep or a International truck. Not until the early Eighties but the new front drive cars were transverse mounted unlike Subaru which had Pull at each corner.

    I own a 2018 Impreza base model. 2 things that are negative. One, is do NOT purchase the base model. Get at least the Premium model. My car has just under 63,000 miles on the odometer. In that many miles, I have lost 11 wheel covers. You may say it might be my driving habits. Well, just so you know, I also own a 2015 Nissan Sentra with wheel covers. I have just over 100,000 miles on the odometer. I have not lost one single wheel cover. Now, back to the Subaru, get the premium or better trim, because you will get aluminum wheels. On to the second negative. Power. The 2.0, just does not have what it needs in power. The crosstrek has an optional 2.5 engine. It has 30 more horses than the 2.0. Subaru needs to at least offer this option. With the 40 more horses, the mpg is virtually the same as the 2.0. Other than that, I love my Impreza. I also own a 2020 Forester premium trim. It is a GREAT vehicle. Just so you know, back in late July, I ordered a new premium trim Impreza sedan. Here it is in the middle of October, I STILL do not have my ordered Impreza. This is not a fault of Subaru. It is the microchip shortage problem. My suggestion to you, is order what you want. Just be prepared to wait 3 months to get what you ordered. The car dealership probably won’t have exactly what you want. And if they do, it’s probably already sold. I’m a loyal customer of Subaru. I still feel that they are hands down better than their completion.

    • @BrominatedVegetableOil
      @BrominatedVegetableOil 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Throttle response is better in sport and it also holds a higher RPM at any cruising speed (basically keeping the engine ready to respond to more if you're say trying to pass).
      Intelligent mode is pure fuel economy and it shows. Good for cruising at a steady speed to get the MPG up.

    I compared a 44000 mile 2021 Impreza Sport 5-door five-speed literally side by side (as in the next parking space) with a new 2023 Crosstrek CVT. I liked the Impreza, but I ordered a six-speed CT because it was easier ingress and egress.
    I test-drove the CVT and thoroughly disliked the rubber band feel, even when it was set to the shift mode. CVT whine was particularly annoying.

    Best looking Subaru in their current lineup, but how they didn't throw the 2.5 in the Sport even after giving it to the Crosstrek I have no idea. This thing can't really compete with the naturally aspirated Mazda 3, let alone the Mazda 3 turbo.

      If I lived in a cold snowy place, I would definitely buy the Impreza over other sedans. However, apart from standard AWD, not really impressed. Exterior looks boring and conservative, just a generic sedan that could even be 10-20 years old. As for the interior, I love the colorful seats but the manual climate controls, cheap looking steering wheel, and outdated infotainment system are turn offs.

    Great review. I have a 18 white hatch sport MTX and the car is underpowered. 4 recalls later ( oil pan leak, brakeline swap x 4, PCV valve leak, and headunit update), MPG is 30 mpg at best. And still Not sure why the 2.5L is only in the Crosstrek sport. Subaru needs to get their shit together. Quality is def slipping with the car being built in Indiana. Would not buy this car again. I would take my chances with Corolla hatch. Atleast they have dual injector set up, and you know your valves wont be caked with carbon in the long run.
