  • Gather foraged leaves and flowers to print patterns onto fabric using sunlight. Experiment with colours, patterns and shapes to create decorative fabrics to use in textiles or as artwork in their own right.
    You will need:
    Card covered with protective plastic
    Cloth/fabric
Watered down paints (acrylic or fabric dyes)
    Salt (optional)
Flowers or objects to press onto fabric
Nawal Gebreel uses innovative 3D fabric manipulations to produce her label’s luxurious scarves and wraps. She sells her work internationally as well as at home. Nawal trained as a textile designer at Manchester Metropolitan University and soon set up her own label. She has 22 years teaching experience, mainly in the tertiary education colleges near her home in Liverpool. She runs workshops for groups throughout the world. She teaches textiles as well as watercolour and mixed media painting and printing.
Experiment with dyeing, stitch and more on a textiles short course at West Dean College of Arts and Conservation: www.westdean.org.uk/study/sho...

This is great as i have been making cyanotypes, and this makes easier and also more colourful! Didn’t know you could use acrylics, thank you so much, going to try it out. Could you use fabric paints instead to have a washable print?

Here is what I do for the 100% cotton used for sun drying and colour fastness... first of all never use straight acrylic paint on fabric if you don't want it to be really stiff. I mix equal amounts of Liquitex Fabric Medium or Golden GAC 900 medium to the acrylic paint. This will make sure your colour remains bright for years and will also ensure you keep the fabric's natural feel and softness. After its done drying in the sun and the items on the fabric are off, turn over and iron with a dry iron to heat seal the colour. Voila!
