    These are wonderful. Hadn't thought of doing the tying techniques with sunprinting. There's a Pakistani silk painter on TH-cam who has a video where he shows having a base color painted or dyed on (I think one video was painted and the other dyed) and then he washes with a darker color and places on the salt. The effect is that you'll see the base color come through where the salt dilutes the wet paint. I've tried it and it works with Dye-na-flow, so something else to consider in your painting toolbox.

    Lisa, thanks for the great tutorial! I've wanted to start dyeing fabrics but it always looked so complicated, plus I thought I needed a lot of room to do it. Your process looks simple and fun. I can't wait to try my first piece (or ten! ☺). You're an excellent teacher, Lisa, and I look forward to watching more of your videos. Thanks again!

    LOVELY video and LOVELY works of art! Lisa, do these fabrics come out feeling as though they have paint on them or do they feel just like regular fabric you might have dyed? Also, would sun printing work with procion fabric dye instead of fabric paint, if not, what is it about the paint that makes this possible? So intriguing! Would the fabrics still be absorbent or does the paint leave a "film"? Sorry for all the questions, but, thank you in advance for any insight you can offer. Blessings!

      Just a slight stiffness with the opaque ones but the transparent paints don't change the fabric at all.
      Thanks for you lovely comment

    Really like your video and giving many examples. Also like your waste saving techniques. I would never have thought of doing two at once that way! Can you explain what the difference is between opaque versus transparent paints? I know the difference in the meaning of those words, but if I were to go buy paint I'm not sure what it would say on the label to know the difference. I believe these are water color and not acrylic. Don't have an art background, so totally new to me.

    • @LisaWaltonArtist
      @LisaWaltonArtist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can see through transparent paints (think watercolours) and not through opaque paints (think acrylics)

    Hello Lisa, I live in Southern Nevada in the US and we have sunshine and heat all the time. We don't have humidity, but very dry heat. Have you tried Sun Printing on clothing. I am interested in trying to tie-dye or sun print on cotton blend sheets. I want to make sundresses and I really like your method.

    • @LisaWaltonArtist
      @LisaWaltonArtist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Terri - I have done sun printing on fabric yardage before making into garments but I am sure you could do it on finished ones as well. Just make sure the fabric is a natural fibre and your paint is a transparent fabric paint. Send me a picture if you do some.
      Lisa

    DOES THE WHITE FABRIC HAVE TO BE A CERTAIN KIND OF FABRIC TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS?

  • @silkylizards8940
    @silkylizards8940 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, basically 'any' fabric paint will do this, as long as it's watered down enough to become translucent?
    Trying this tomorrow, thanks !!

    • @LisaWaltonArtist
      @LisaWaltonArtist  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only transparent fabric paints. Ones you can see through when dry. If they are marked opaque paint then they are solid and won't go the sun effects.
      Have fun
      Lisa

    • @silkylizards8940
      @silkylizards8940 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lisa Walton Thanks Lisa, my results on a white t shirt were good but I was wondering if you can sun print on darker colours? I did try black but the white paint just sort of 'sucked in' to the fabric, but this could have just been the paint's fault.
      Do you have any experience with sun dyeing on dark fabrics like black?
      Thank you :)

    • @silkylizards8940
      @silkylizards8940 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried white paint (applied a lot more thickly this time, as it does tend to 'suck in' to the fabric), on a black shirt and it came out really well, just letting you and everyone know out there ! :)
