Its 4 sec faster than a c8, a bit faster than a camaro, and only 1 sec slower than a v10 awd huracan and a f8 tributo. Pretty impessive.
I'm curious what a C8 GS or Z would do in comparrison when they get released.
@@JLewisRacing927 C8 grandsport wont be any different, its just a body kit. The Z06 is where the real upgrade will be. And it better do good or that'll be a disappointment.
@@burgerbandit3646 The GS is a Z06 minus the driveline, and has significantly better tires. So it will definitely be different. I say we revisit this convo once released to see the true results because as of now it's just speculation.

Pretty insane this car can achieve this quick of a lap and also do a 10.6 1/4 mile stock.
On a drag strip, yes. On a normal street, it runs an 11.3 which is still insane!
@@Marcello2005 Yeah, 10.6 is on a prepped drag surface and well warmed Sport Cups 2 semi slicks at 22 psi, 2/3 of the recommended street tire pressure. 11.2 is on the street, still pretty impressive

-By the first turn the Ford was 20 feet ahead of the Porche.

Whats that I hear that the GT500 can't handle?
-The Porsche GT3 led the Ford Mustang GT500 for less than 16 seconds of the 2 minute lap.
My opinion
Had Randy not got out of shape and have to correct toward the end of the run in the GT500.... it would have won. Either way, the Ford clearly proved itself and dropped some jaws from Porsche owners and many others on this day.

That or just go to one of the track days at laguna with unlimited sound but that’s expensive.

Sound limits at racetracks are literally one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard, especially when the are in the desert. It’s like moving next to an airport and complaining that the planes are loud

Lets remind ourselves of the last generation GT500 numbers. The 2013-2014 GT500 was advertised with 662hp out of a 5.8L engine. Fast foward to the 2020 GT500, it advertises 760hp out of...just a 5.2L. I'm impressed. That literage reminds me of the GT350 they put out a few short years ago. I cant recall the exact HP numbers but was skyward of 520+hp....that is also naturally aspirated. That number harks back at the 2005-09 era GT500's but with a supercharged 5.4L. Now we can get those numbers without a supercharger and smaller. Pretty amazing to me.
Horsepower has definitely increased a lot in the past few years, though I feel like we may reach a soft plateau in the coming years due to stricter CAFE standards.

@@avinavpradhan3829 nope its only faster than the manual transmission camaro. A 10 speed zl1 1le is faster than the GT500 CFTP. Manual version did it in 1:34:30 so less than half a second difference. Plus camaro zl1 1le is on sale for $65,000 versus more than $100,000 for the GT500!

@@ACMEpowersports The gt500 already has really high dealer mark up suggesting its undervalued. Also ford is gonna stop making the gt500 and gt350 making this the last generation. So, I think this car will hold its value well (especially the cftp version) it may even reach future classic status.

It’s 4000lbs with all kinds of tricks to hide it’s weight! It’s fast as snot but it’s still 2 seconds a lap slower than Porsche’s Grand Touring car. Money notwithstanding would you take the Shelby or a Porsche 3RS or 2RS?
To me being a full sized car before and be able to beat most cars around and down a track makes it the ultimate car. To think you can do a few minor mods and a tune for under 20k and make 1150whp

c8 atm being base model has 260 less hp, bring out a vette with say around 700hp. Forgot video i watched on track that stang only beat c8 by 1.5 or so seconds and that was cause straights, in all the corners the c8 was beating it.
U might want to put that it also weights like 500 pounds less

The $100,000 Mustang beat the $100,000 Corvette
No not really! You cannot get this GT 500 ( this package) for $100K. You can get a C8 Z51 packaged car for under $70K. Add R compound tires to the vette and it would be closer. The stang would still faster and is a real impressive car, but not apples to apples here! You also have to look at it like this, the Mustang is maxed out, the C8 is just started :-) The Chevy engineers realized this, that's why it switched to a "mid-engine" platform! As track cars go, I'd take the Mustang in this comparison , it's already set up .

4225 POUNDS with 56% front weight distribution...truly is an amazing feat to run that time because that car is a fat pig. Front tires and brakes for days if you track that thing.
Rear tires, too. Putting down 760 horsepower through them constantly won't make them last very long.

That car is awesome! About a half second faster than the zl1 1le manual. and up 110hp. Still surprised how much slower the vette was. So amazing how fast these cars are on the track! Put me behind the wheel i be lucky to do 2 min lap!

Great time for sure. I am a Stang guy. But, very impressive for the ZL1 1LE, which was a manual, to be only half a second slower than this DCT equipped car. And the Z has 110 less hp.
Im going to have to agree the zl1 1le was crazy and this thing beat it is insane I would honestly like to see a race between this and the zl1 1le to see who wins
Wonder how the ZL1 1LE auto10 will do. 1.34.30 in a manual ZL1 1LE vs 1.33.84 in a DCT GT500. Motor Trend should bring them both, plus the C8, and do a shootout
Also, doing them all on the same day would also show some sort of different results. It would be interesting.
Yeah, on the regular ZL1 non 1LE, they did a track comparison between the 6 speed and 10 speed and the 10 was faster. They definitely should try that 10 speed 1LE from 2019-2021 and do a head 2 head between the two.
Honestly, all they need to do is Put Michelin Cup 2s on the ZL1-1LE and it will beat the GT500 around Laguna Seca!!.
With 110HP less Horsepower, a Manual Transmission, and Inferior track tires (Goodyear Eagle F1 R) the Camaro was only 0.46 secs slower around Laguna Seca...
the difference is in the tires! not only that. i can buy a Zl1-1LE for 67k brand new from the dealer. while the GT500 is 93K MSRP(Carbon Track Edition) let alone finding one less than $100k from a dealer. This is comming from a Shelby Owner. either Supercharge a GT350 or just buy a ZL1-1LE. either way you will save at least $20-$25 Grand and have an Superior car!
@@darwinLee81283 Yeah. I am a Camaro owner but personally I would go GT500 non CFTP for daily drivability. I don’t know, I love both but the 1LE ZL1 just looks too extreme for me. Same for the base ZL1 since that’s just a Supercharged SS 1LE which is also too extreme for me. Currently I drive an i4 1LE Camaro which also is becoming a headache so I might go GT500 soon. Or a SS, not sure yet.

Yes the camaro is the superior performance car but it’s not the better car all around. The ZL1 1LE is goona break your back on a daily basis, suspension is too stiff and the seats are not as comfortable as what you can get on a 500 or 350.
@@voodoodiecast I doubt it will break your back unless you're an old man with back problems 🤣 Most people do buy a ZL1 1LE just for the track and not to daily drive. That's why they also offer the ZL1. I have the same seats in my SS 1LE and I've had no issues with comfort taking it on long road trips.

Very quick, although not quite as quick as I was hoping. I thought it’d be faster than a C7 Z06.
Still, a highly impressive car.
The weight is what refuses to let it beat the Z06's time. But to think a 4,000+ pound car is flying around the track like that is insane.
This needs to be in a Fast and Furious movie and it needs to race a GTR Nismo.

Which is better the 2013 GT500 or the 2020 GT500.
2013 Shelby GT500 is a Top Speed beast, it can go over like 200+ MPH.
However 2020 Shelby GT500 is a Track weapon, top speed limits at 180+ MPH.
I will say 2013 GT500 is better.
2020 Shelby GT500 is very capable of doing 200mph plus it's way more aerodynamic than the older generation. It has a lot of aero drag and downforce that's its limited to 180mph.
@@yusufgta4341 It's electronically limited. My guess is the downforce prevented it from being faster than the previous GT500 (or at least the Super Snake), so Ford intentionally restricted it.

I would love to see the Camaro ZL1 (non 1LE) VS Shelby GT500 (non CFTP).
why non 1LE? the 1LE is same price as the Standard GT500 (73k). and you can get it in a manual lol. and you can probably talk a Chevy dealer into selling it for $67k unfortunately the zL11Le would beat a Standard GT500. only reason its 0.46sec faster than the 1LE 2018 time is because of the Tires. Michelin cup 2 is a superior tire. and would make up the 0.46sec difference... even with the manual trans car. and no im not bias. i have a gt350 :)
@@darwinLee81283 the Camaro ZL1 has a better suspension (magnetic) for day to day driving and also is ready for track time. The ZL1 1LE has a very tough suspension.

@@darwinLee81283 no no no. The ZL1 1LE was manual and it did 1:34:30. A 10 speed ZL1 1LE will destroy GT500 CFTP on this track. We are taking about less than half a second difference compared to a manual transmission. ZL1 1LE is definitely faster and you can buy one on sale for around $65,000.

they tested a Hellcat RedEye Widebody here last year or two years ago. It did a 1:42. I believe it was slower than a Mk5 Supra, M2 Competition, and a Lambo Urus.

I honestly want to see Motor Trend pin that GT500 CFTP vs the ZL1 1LE automatic transmission because the result I see was a dual clutch transmission vs a manual transmission so it doesn't come to a complete suprise that the it beats the Camaro zl1 but I wouldn't count the Camaro out just yet I would like to see a straight comparison between the two rivals
Yeah. But hopefully there is a 2022 LT5 Camaro. That might just embarrass the Shelby since it would take away literally the single advantage the Shelby has on the Camaro which is its 110hp difference. But yeah the auto sure would make it more interesting!
Let's also keep in mind that the Camaro ZL1 1LE has inferior tires than the Shelby does.

Issue with this car as several owners and reviewers stated : its a one lap hero... tires are gones very very quickly... Too heavy for sustainable performance on a racetrack...

Yeah, I've heard people swap the tires and rotors if they want to do several laps.
I just hope after all the success with the Mustang, Ford finally making it a Full-on sports car, dont go and ruin it with the next generation, and giving it a platform shared by another vehicle. Especially a vehicle thats not a sports car. Thats how you RUIN a great performance car. The next mustang should get a little smaller and a lot lighter in weight.

But they have had long financial and sales success due to their rental fleet sales. People like to go on vacation and rent a convertible mustang. Thats long in its legacy. THAT SUCKS. mixing a sports car with a truck!!!! thats terrible in every way. not to say trucks cant be fast. but mustang has always had its own platform. I don’t think forza has this car. Either way it’s borderline impossible. I was driving a P1 and getting times with from what I and many other people see as a Perfect Lap and it was clocked at a 1:35 or so. Randy got much better.

So $15k and 110 extra HP gets you a few tenths over the ZL1/1LE...I’ll take the Camaro, looks way more sinister.
It's a short track with less straights man. The Ferrari F8 was only half a second faster the shelby GT500 here and it's a mid engine car plus light weight as well. That shows how well the shelby handles. Remember, the shelby GT500 is a mid 10 second car while the ZL1 1LE only does 11.4s in the quarter mile. The DCT in the shelby GT500 is no joke.
.6 is Legitimate on that track. The zl-1le is purpose built for the track. With the gr500 You also get a much quicker 1/4 mile drag car. I do agree the zl1le is mean looking

I get ur point. But U ve to understand 1 thing. 110 HP is not for show off.. those extra horses are extra fun any day any time. Also unlike the LS/LT the 500 motor revs to 7300. Maybe U guys don't understand that excitement f ringing an engine to 7000s that none of LS/LTs can do stock, and not just that this brute engine does make power at 7000 unlike say LS7 which doesn't make meaningful power post 6300.
Also the sound.. sorry LT fans.. I myself migrating from an Si love how the Predator sings over the LTs.
All this said I am not saying LS/LT powered cars are bad.. in fact they are excellent. The ZL1 1LE uses one of the most aggressive castor/camber angles ever on a road car. Pretty sure that such an aggressive angle wud give GT500 better lap times. Also the DSSV is way too hardcore when I tried that.. compared with that the 500 felt pretty ok and much better on road
But the regular ZL1 Manual is something that I love.. 650 HP, Manual GB, thats a portion that Ford lacks
Remember guys the ZL1 1LE comes with 10 speed auto now. This GT500 is only .46 seconds faster than a manual ZL1 1LE. The auto ZL1 1LE is definitely faster than the GT500 CFTP like every other comparisons done already. The 10 speed version is ballistic. Plus you can purchase one for less than 70 grand on sale. Best performance car for the money hands down.
One thing - I did not hear these tires screaming, it tells me this car could be driven faster. I'm not expert, just saying my thoughts.

All because the snooty golf players complained that the noise was ruining their concentration.
Ironic since Hwy 68 & all the Salinas roads near the golf course and surrounding Laguna have higher dB sound limits.
But race car drivers and their tracks make an easier target than governments.
.46 faster than the manual ZL1 1LE. Those cars are so close. If they do that race on the same day, or use the auto ZL1 1LE, it could go either way. Considering how many super cars are humbled by these two, I call that a win for both. ZL1 1LE for me though.
The auto zle is faster in every other comparison. It shaved 5 seconds on a 3 minute long track if I remember right.

ZL1 1LE that was tested in 2018 was a manual transmission. The difference is 0.46 seconds. 10 speed auto 1le has surpassed GT500 CFTP on every other tests, including car and driver, throttle house lap times. I don’t know why people think the GT500 is all holy grail. You are paying almost $100,000 for it and can not even beat a $65,000 camaro with more than 100 hp less horsepower. Let’s talk about the reality and facts here. You can go online and find a 10 speed auto ZL1 1LE for $65,000.
