  • A log cabin quilt is a thing of beauty to behold, and there are as many versions of this classic pattern as there are colors in your scrap basket. On this episode of Quilty, Mary takes you through the making of a block from Blue Underground's "Curved Log Cabin" pattern. Like any log cabin quilt, this is not a tough technique -- it just requires some organization and patience. Learn about cutting strips, sewing "logs" and building this gorgeous optical illusion block by block.

I love it! The log cabin quilt was the first one my mom ever made...using thrifted plaid shirts for material. So I'm always love the log cabin design. This is a really cool variation of the traditional design!

I love this quilt! Would love to make it but I can't find any directions for the Curved Log Cabin pattern. Do you have the pattern available online or where I could get it? Your tutorials are great. They make me want to make all the quilts and the fabrics are wonderful! Thanks so much for your inspiration....

The sample blocks shown near the end are both missing the last skinny strip. Should be 4 skinny strips each side of the center square I believe.

It would take less time and it is easier then to put together if you just do 1.5 inch strips.(1.5 x45 ")) and 2.5 inch strips (2.5 x45") cutting each strip to exact length would take way to much time....also I would sew several blocks up at a time . Taking the center block and sewing maybe three at a time to the first log etc as you go around. Much more efficient
The way you are doing it would take forever

Wow, I'm shocked by all the ads time consuming even when I skipped the initial ones. I thought that should have showed sewing of at least 4 strips on, as it was not as clear as it was supposed to be. Nothing said about going clockwise or counter clockwise. Never listed the width of the wider strip. So much time spent explaining things that weren't necessary, but left out the most essentials.
