Your sewing is so neat and precise. The back of the log cabin was so neat, I love when the backs of the blocks look like that. I know no one will see them but I still like knowing they are like that. I think it stems from my granny teaching me and telling me the back of your work should be just as neat as the front! It doesn’t always happen, it’s actually quite rare so I live it when it does happen.
Alexandra, my Nana always said the exact same thing! Of course that was referring to garments, but just as true for quilts. I always try to achieve that goal.
Always love watching your tutorial videos. Thanks so much for your tips & sharing your expertise!
I’m so glad I came across your video. I am new to quilting and love the log cabin block but didn’t know about the other variations.
Fabulous demonstration of this block and various layout options. Thanks for sharing your measurements. 😊
I appreciate you taking the time to show us all of the different layouts. I love the red and white fabrics.
My favorite block as well. Making the American Quilt. Lots of strips but will be worth it.
I just love watching your quilting videos , so detailed and easy to understand and follow.
Best log cabin tutorial. Thank you!
Hi Deborah, Thanks so much for your kind words. Means a lot
I love log cabin blocks. Thanks so much for putting all the variations in one video. Red is my favorite color.
Jeanette,
You have changed my mind about a block I have never really liked. The red and white is stunning. I like it so much that I just ordered the honey buns to make my first ever log cabin quilt. I'll send you pics when I'm done. Although it may be awhile because I have several projects in front of this one! 😂 Thank you SO much for your great tutorials!! ❤
Amazing how one block of a log cabin block can make a few totally different looks. Love the colours of this one 😍❤️
Using 1.5" from pre-cuts is such a good idea. I love the log cabin blocks because they're so versatile in terms of layouts. Your red and white ❤️🤍 color scheme is lovely. Thanks for the video 😊
Love the red and white! On my list to do. Also a blue and white quilt. Thank you, Jeanette! Just watched chasing borders video. Perfect pairing.
Your tutorial reminds me how fun the log cabin block layouts can be! I will be making another one soon. Thank you!
Glad we reminded you of how fun it can be !
Very well done and very helpful! Thanks!
This is also my favorite block, and it’s so versatile.
This is such a wonderful tutorial! Thank you!
Thank you Jeanette for the great video tutorial, loving the red and white colour scheme x
Thank you. I have not made a log cabin yet. Hopefully this winter. ❤
Love the colors and the choices of how to lay out different ways.
The Log Cabin Block has been one of my favorite go to blocks as well! Especially if I don't have much time to put another block together! They are amazingly beautiful! Such a wonderful tutorial!! Thank you for sharing.
The honey bun roll might be a way to get me interested in this block. Have always avoided the log cabin because of the level of exactness necessary to achieve a perfect block. Thanks for your tutorial.required.
Enjoyed watching this tutorial, can’t wait to try out the log cabin block😊
i love log cabin quilts thanks for your tutorial
Thank you, Jeannett! My favorite block is also the Log Cabin block. I like your tips and layouts. Always fun to see the videos!
I think I’ll have to make all five! Thanks for the video!
Showing the different layouts was helpful! Thanks!
I’ve never made a log cabin block, but the cool top that you made is looks beautiful. My next goal is to try and make a log cabin quilt. Thank you for your tutorial.
Thanks for sharing. Such a great easy to follow and understand tutorial ❤❤❤❤
all gorgeous
Love these layouts. You’ve inspired me to make my first log cabin blocks. Thanks so much! Beautiful blocks!
This tutorial has inspired me to try a log cabin quilt. I like the idea of writing out the cutting diagram - definitely one to try. 😊
Would love to see a demo of the quilt on the back wall. Love the red and white log cabin.
Hello, That tutorial is coming very soon!
Thank you very much. Lovely blocks, and nice layout options.
Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial.
Thanks for sharing
Wonderful tutorial! Love it.❤❤😊
I’m with you, the Log Cabin block is my favorite quilt block. And the fabric you used is beautiful. Thank you for showing all of the different layouts. Now You make me want to make another log cabin quilt.
Question? Were you able to use the whole Honey Bun? Did it just makes 16 blocks?
Beautiful. ❤❤❤
Very nice, if I use a running material for the quilt, how many metres of cloth do I need of each colour
Beautiful!!!
Thanks or the great tips.
Thank you Jeanette, love the way you demonstrate. Is it possible to do a demo of the quilt on the back wall.?..it looks like 5 2 1/2" sqs. with a 2 1/2" border strip on each side......luv it!
Hi Elizabeth, Thanks for the lovely words. We will pass this onto Jeanette. The quilt displayed in the back is a Keyhole Quilt. This video tutorial will be coming out very soon!
Thanks! So easy to understand. I love all the variations!
Jeanette very good tutorial, I want to make a log cabin quilt now! How do I know which round is Light & which is dark? Can you post your cheat sheet in comments?
Thank you!!
Oh! I can see doing the blocks with the same light colors and swap royal blue for the red on 8 of the blocks. Using the Field & Furrows layout with the red blocks and blue blocks, it would look soooo patriotic!
great tutorial ❤
First I love the quilt. Quick question. I am American who retired to southern Spain. I have 28 containers of fabric that I do not have room for. They are all from quilt shops 100:% cotton. Hundreds of flannels. Smallest cut of any is 9" by width of fabric. Really priced to sell. Could you give me an idea where to advertise? Any information would be very much appreciated.
Connie
Show! I am from Brazil and I will do that. Kisses and Thanks.
How many layer cakes would I need for a full size quilt?
What is the quilt on the wall behind you?
Hi Darlene, Thats a quilt for an upcoming video. Make sure to subscribe so you dont miss it!
This is a 4x4 square quilt. Do you need even numbers like 8x8 or can you work with odd blocks like 6x7. I’m working on my first quilt-actually trying to make the quilt my mom had planned to make for my daughter. Mom passed away before she got started on it. I really have no idea how to lay it out or how many squares I need for a queen sized quilt. Any advice is greatly appreciated
So lovely, that you are completing a quilt on behalf of your Mum, Log Cabin is one of my favourites and I’m sure your daughter will love it and you’ll do your Mom proud.
You can work in odd/even combination of blocks such as 6x7 but it very much depends on which layout you choose, some work best with even number of blocks, such as the star layout, but the beauty of Log Cabin is that there are so many layout options.
A Queen sized quilt is typically between 88" and 99" wide and 94" to 108" in length. The blocks I made finish at 7 inches so you would need 13 or 14 blocks wide and 14 or 15 rows to make a quilt the size you want. Alternatively you can add more rounds of ‘logs’ to make the block larger and reduce the number needed, or do Log Cabin in the centre and add borders to bring the quilt to size.
I hope that is helpful and that it all makes sense.
Good luck with the quilt, please do share any pictures, even if it’s work in progress ones.
Jeanette
@@SewingStudio thank you so much for the information and advice. I truly appreciate it 💜
Jeanette would this work with 2.5 wide strips?
Rose, did you try with 2.5 strips ?
No I have not. Not sure but in my mind I’m thinking the block will be too large.
❤
What a great demonstration.im.about to start my first log cabin block. Thanks for ideas
好漂亮❤
Fabulous demonstration and so detailed. I think I may try this one. I am working on that quilt you have hung up, KeyHole Quilt and squaring up the blocks to put together, goes very fast. Thanks for sharing🪡🧵👏
Thanks Debbie, the keyhole quilt tutorial is coming very soon. Great quilts to make!
