Roy told Riza to stand by his side. That's how she knew it was Envy pretending to be him. It was redundant anyway, because that was the agreement tje two made when they first met.
Well she would've probably realized it was him by the way he reacted. Envy spoke to her harshly "do you know who your gun is pointed at?", Roy wouldn't speak to her like that
I mean, that is literally basic master/stranger protocols. 1: Don't trust anyone or anything 2: If you lose track of anyone for even a moment, verify their identity immediately. 3: Ask questions that only the person in question would know (example: what kind of cake did I have at my birthday party last year?) 4: have passwords or code phases that your team can use to quickly identify threats or warn each other if their senses are compromised without cluing the master/stranger class threat in to what they mean. 5: If at any point, one of your squad fails a verification or password check, they must be considered compromised and removed from the situation. (shoot them if the master/stranger can disguise themself, or remove them from the field if they can exert some level of control over people.)
"friendzone" bro what mustang and hawkeye have is much closer than friends. the story simply gives their relationship some adult nuance instead of being explicit about it
@@ApexGaleBro, this is a joke. Do you think a comment saying something like "the 8th circle of friendzone" can be anything else but a joke? Are "adults" these days not even able to recognize what's a joke and what's not?
She knew from moment 1 it was Envy. Made 3 big mistakes. 1- authenticate you are you. 2- authenticate the other person really is that person. 3- ordered her to follow him. She already has standing orders to do so and thus it is redundant (while not siting above reasons for keeping close) Envy wasn't toying with Riza. Riza was toying with Envy. Though the power level led to her losing the fight.
the show has also made it abundantly clear Riza is extemely competent when it comes to espionage tactics and working under a lot of pressure. this is the woman who managed to convey to her allies that Selim was a homunculus...while he was literally watching her every move. this is why she's Roy's right hand.
She is, but the fact that she played on her personal relationship with Roy, and Envy fell for it instantly, is proof that Riza is aware of how others perceive her and Roy's bond. She KNOWS ppl think they are more than friends, and every convincing lie has an element of truth to it..... 🙂
Mustang would have admonished her for not following orders and following him further in. He wouldn't have been nearly as calm as he was here, and Riza was well aware of that.
Envy: "What are you doing lieutenant? Do you know who your gun's pointed at?" Riza: "Hah, who? Don't make me laugh. When it's just us, the colonel calls me by my first name, Riza." Envy: "So you two are that close, are you?" Riza: "I lied, but it was still very nice of you to fall for it, Envy" -Hope this helps :)

Fucking badass

Imagine if it was him. Just super awkward. "He calls me by my first name, Riza!" "What? No I don't." "Oh. Good. It's you. Just checking."
Well she would've probably realized it was him by the way he reacted. Envy spoke to her harshly "do you know who your gun is pointed at?", Roy wouldn't speak to her like that

I love Colleen Clinkenbeard's deadpan delivery of the line "I lied."
It's so good. Even after all these years. Still one of the greatest scenes of all time

“All War is deception.” -Sun Tzu. Nice to see Riza beating Envy at his own game.
0:27 Perfect moment for a cut-off.
Just saw a Instagram post that does that cut. 2 years later someone did it
Whenever an Instagram reel appears with this scene they do the perfectly cut gunshot. Never misses (pun not intended)
We all know this is one of the best moments of the show, but ngl by now its also just my go to for “which way do i pronounce military ranks again”

if you cut off at just "I lied" and then the gunshot, this is the funniest scene in the anime😂
