AMG Hondas are so rare, but so good! I owned a 1996 Ballade VTEC AMG, acquired from Mercedes Benz Milnerton in 2002. Only mod I did was a custom intake running into the wheel well, where the resonator airbox used to live. 128kw at the wheels on mine, far exceeding the claimed 129kw, from a little 1.6 - made it quite well known at 'street drags' of the day. Oh the stories I could tell that would have me arrested! VR6 and M3 (E36) owners scratching their heads at either being beaten to the line, or not being able to outrun this little 1600. (Looking at you 'JNYRKT WP') Amazing handling on Eibach's made it great fun at gymkhana days too. Incredible cars, especially considering it was pre the days of turbos being a common thing. At the time I was lead to believe these models were part of homologation requirements, but as per your video may well have been simply capitalising on the partnership. So great to see something on these AMG Hondas! Once upon a time there was a write up on my model in CAR Magazine, but never able to find it again.
@@miwina2014 Yeah was a bad one. The car had the B18B3, so my ultimate plan was to do a Frankenstein conversion eventually. But that's the way the cookie crumbles.
Honda didn't need AMG, as my eg9 Ferio (1992 four door four bucket seats) came with the b16a limited slip dif and all the Honda toys ;climate control folding mirrors sunroof and 170hp as standard, which red lines @ 8.200 revs !!!...
Because South Africa's fuel wasn't up to standard, the b16a6 engine was first introduced in the SO4 chassis only in 1996 to 2001 , so therefore our EG8s only received the B18b as the most powerful engine transplant even the Integras in the USA already had B18cs So ja, no EG ever came down the production line with a B16 engine in South Africa.
The old Hondas on their manuals had the Honda and the Mercedes emblem. "Powered by Mercedes-Benz" I always wondered why these cars were so comfortable. My Father had a white 150i very reliable

Amg ballade never came out with a b series engine. What sorcery is this?
