I just appreciate a simple answer for this. The aha moment for me was when you explained that we are shortchanging the baby with a shorter awake time, and therefore they aren’t as tired as they need to be, then having a short nap cycle. This should help! Also I purchased the complete schedule guide last week!
Thanks for this! Two follow up questions - first, how long is an appropriate time frame to give a baby(5mo) to go back to sleep in the morning if they are quiet? Yes embarrassingly I am the mom watching the monitor🤦🏻♀️ And second, do you stretch a baby who is already fussing and showing sleep cues to meet the wake window in order to try and break the cycle? My 5mo is technically within the sleep norms for her age but all of a sudden having trouble meeting the 2h wake window, and we keep having quiet early mornings to the point that I’m not sure when to start her day.
We recommend waiting to get your little one up until your within 30 minutes or so of your target AM wake time. Sleepy cues after 4 months old do become less accurate, so we suggest stretching your little one to the recommended wake window length! At 5 months old you can pass the time with books, music, toys, and tummy time!
For newborns, if you attempt to put them to sleep and they fall asleep for like 5 mins only sleep with soothing but then even while you’re still soothing/rocking are just suddenly fully wide awake and fussy, are you supposed to just KEEP attempting as nauseam or would it make more sense to wait for the next 45min / post feed sleepiness? Every time a nap fails I’m like ugh okay this is an active period I guess
Hey, Jess! We recommend offering the nap for 15-20 minutes. If baby doesn't sleep, try offering a nap on the go in a carrier or stroller! If your little one still doesn't sleep, you can begin the next wake window. You will likely need to offer the next nap sooner, using a smaller wake window!
I’m confused. I thought newborns need to feed every two to three hours (or 3-4 if fed formula). So what happens if baby is still asleep past the 3 or 4 hour mark???
I'm still so lost on how to time things. It feels like my 8 week old is always "on" if not completely awake. My husband and I trade off, but we are LUCKY to get 2-3, 2 hr naps in a 24 hour cycle in his bassinet. The rest of the time he is eating (he eats about 35-40oz of breastmilk from a bottle a day and it takes forever each time) or he's awake. Now, the thing I don't know how to tell is after 7pm, he usually eats with his eyes closed. His eyes are pretty much closed all night. So he'll go down, wake up 2 hours or less later, get changed, fed, and put back down...all taking probably an hour and a half and all with his eyes closed. Is he dream feeding? Does this count? Should I be fully waking him (a pretty much impossible task). And if I take the bottle out, he screams for it, so he's definitely hungry. Any clarity would be so appreciated!
Hey there, thank you for reaching out! Congratulations on your sweet little one! 💛 At this age we want to aim for 4-6 naps a day. Between naps we want to follow a 45-60 minute wake window, including the feed. At night time, it's helpful to make sure your little one is as wide awake as possible when he's feeding. This will help him to connect feeding with nourishment and not feeding with sleep!
Our 8 month old sometimes takes 18-20 minutes to go to sleep after putting him in the crib awake. We don’t count the start of his nap until he is asleep. Are we supposed to count the start of his sleep the moment we put him in the crib?
Hey there, great question! Yes, the beginning of the nap begins when your little one goes into their crib. That is because getting drowsy, and putting one's self to sleep, is the first phase of sleep and it counts toward the overall nap length! If it takes your little one longer than 20 minutes to fall asleep, we recommend widening their wake window by 15 minutes.
Help! 😭 I’m so lost what to do because our 7 week old can take so long to eat. At what point do we cut a feeding short & try to lay down for a nap? Wil l this just inevitably lead to a short nap because she’ll be hungry? And if they only sleep for 30 mins (even if they had a full feeding) do you still offer a feed right away?
Hey Megan! Congrats on your sweet little one! 💛 We don't recommend shortening a feeding, but rather we recommend focusing on keeping your little one as wide awake as possible. If the feeding takes 30-40 minutes thats ok! At 7 weeks old you will feed for as long as baby needs to, maybe do 2-5 minutes of tummy time, and then begin the next nap routine/nap! It's okay if the feeding takes up the " entire awake window" because this is truly their main responsibility as they grow and acclimate to life outside of the room! 🙃Feeding and a little tummy time or burping time will be more than enough for them to do before their next nap! Hope that helps!
I have a 3 almost 4 week old and sometimes she will be awake for 2hrs and will not go down for a nap when I try! She’s awake and content but has been up for so long 😭 what do I do?
Realizing that my babe is starting our day at 4am and her naps aftrr that!!! So grateful for you.
Thank you, Gracie! Glad to hear our videos have been a help to you! 💛

Hey there! If it is during the day you will wake baby up to feed them!

Wow, yes, I was doing this wrong! Do you still have 30% off your program? The website says the SLEEPYEAR coupon is invalid
Yes we are still having a sale! It should be reflected at checkout. No code needed
