I just meant it from a religious stand point, I don't know much about different forms of witchcraft just the one associated with the dark arts. However what is right is right and thank you for pointing that out!

This is one of the most prime examples of why church and state should be separated. Superstition can not be allowed to have a bearing on matters of law and justice and why you now need actual evidence to conduct a legal trial

Not unless perhaps you're extremely, extra ultra careful and cautious about who you trust, confide in and associate with. Life can change in an instant, anyone going through a hard time should remember that. As it can also go the opposite way, from as good as you could want, to total ruination in a matter of hours. Believe me.

There are many different forms of witchcraft. To state that the “power comes from the devil” so matter of fact, is offensive, and rude.

Well yes, but no. It really depends. From a judeo-christian standpoint, no. Power can only come from invoking a supernatural being, either God (forbidden, unless he commands it) or one of other powers (gods). Because the Abrhamic faiths are monotheistic, and the angels are subject directly to God (and have no free will), the only logical answer for what these other powers (gods) are is demons and by extension Satan himself. Remember this is from a judeo-christian point of view, the one which is relevant to the story.

These rubbish witchcraft accusations are awful, the authorities also tortured poor domestic pets (cats and dogs etc.) to try and get the 'truth' out of these animals, themselves!!

Especially black cats... also dogs, weasels/ferrets etc. only a little bit of research will show you the animal species that were also accused of being 'witches' or of human witches in disguise... terrible torments were performed on the humans, let alone the accused pets/animals. All in vain, of course, it's a load of balony, but the stupid claims of some people, declaring that they saw a person turning into an animal and visa versa, was enough to keep this superstition going...

Enjoyable as always. If anyone needs to be convinced that these women were innocent consider their imprisonment. How could anyone with magical powers potent enough to kill with a look be confined and executed? The entire idea of putting a witch in jail (particularly with other witches) is ridiculous.

Erm..... 40 ish seconds and in and SERIOUSLY dispute the statement that 'all areas of witchcraft derive for the Devil'.
That attitude murdered thousands of people who were healers, midwives, early form of doctors and nurses, many older women who lived alone, people who were kind to animals and had them as pets, had neighbours who didn't like them, people who thought differently.

ya i'd remove that mention of the connection between witchcraft and the devil at the beginning as it is incorrect and potentially offensive to practising witches today, many of whom depend on natural and elemental sources for power

I'm not a witch myself, but find prejudices and bigotries of all kinds offensive enough that I nearly unsubscribed. I'm waiting to see if I get a response.

@@marinakaiser7639 one, gross oversimplification of the inquisition. Two heretics is a fairly gender nuetral term. Witch trial also frequently tended to murder people regardless of gender. The focus higher percentage of women could be because female conflict seems to often take a less direct approach. That and women tend to be the biggest enemies of women, the church was already in power. Apparently a proponent of the one inquisition was a woman, with fears of Christians who are actually Jews driving her to said inquisition.
Also not sure why you brought up the church here... I was correcting your grammar. And I think you would be hard pressed to find modern Christians who would justify the inquisitions.

Interesting case, and not one I’d ever heard of. It seems obvious that the sisters were greatly envied, and I wonder how much the accusations levelled against them were drawn from pamphlets concerning other trials, this being the ‘pornography’ of the time.
