Funny you mentioned how the demon summoning mechanism might work in a video game. The mid 90s elder scrolls game daggerfall kinda worked like that. Where the various daedric princes (stand in for demonic intelligences in the game universe.) can only be summoned at their specific temples on specific days of the year. And if you missed one you could end up waiting months in game to try again. Cool to see that system has its roots in real world cosmology.
Some of the Princes also required certain weather or could not be summoned in specific weather. IIRC Witches Covens had fewer restrictions on summoning circumstances than the Mages Guild. Yeah. My screen name is "Talking Mudcrab." I'm obsessed with the elder Elder Scrolls games.
I know its gotta be hard to keep something completely hidden but I'm surprised the catholic society in those days didnt go around and burning anybody n there homes, friends, and or other partners to completely erase all manuals to this
imagine being some dark cult dedicated to molag bal, and you're just about to summon him after decades of preparation, when your cult supplies cart gets stuck in some mud on the road or something, and you miss the day to summon him, so you have to wait a whole year again just to get another chance.
@zoutewand i was working for 2 different bakeries then :) i was living on my own and needed as many hours as i could force myself to do haha. I only work for 1 of them now luckily
There actually is a video game with a summoning system similar to what you describe: The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall. In that game, if you wanted to commune with Daedric Princes (powerful godlike and demon-like entities) and seek their power, you not only had to find the witch coven who could perform the ritual for you, but each one of the Princes had their own "summoning day" on the in-game calendar year that was the only day the ritual could be performed. Also, if it happened to be raining that day, you were out of luck, because attempting to summon one of the other Princes during the rain would instead summon Sheogorath, Prince of Madness. (He likes the rain).

The idea of demons inhabiting the air, reminds me of a passage in the book of Enoch, concerning the spirits of the Nephilim, that after death, their spirits would neither ascend to heaven nor descend to hell, but would continue to exist as invisible disembodied spirits that neither eat or drink. (Very loosely paraphrasing 😅)

Interesting to hear the "crossroads" being an ideal spot for rituals. As you said that idea continued into more contemporary times, but it immediately made me think of the musicians that "sold their soul to the devil" which the stories almost always involve meeting the "devil" at a crossroads
OK, I can’t stop thinking about the idea of conjuring a couple of mythed-off demons of different types, and they come up so mad about it all in general and at each other in specific that it turns into some sort of necromantic wrestling federation match. Hmmmmm… NWF Wrestling. 🤔

I find this really fascinating especially because I don’t actually believe demons exist, but I do practice astral magic using a lot of incense and elaborate arrangements of the altar objects in rituals.
Demons absolutely exist we just can't comprehend their intentions. These beings have been around since God created Earth so their intelligence and manipulations are beyond a human ability to reason. While angles were taught their entire life to love humans Demons were taught to hate humanity. Demons blame humanity for their never ending suffering imposed on them by the creator. For both angels and Demons their ultimate punishment and reason for their suffering is separation from God. Demons know they will never be in the presence of our Lord ever again, it's a wound that will never heal
I love everything about this. I'm designing right now a tabletop rpg with the intention to make a magic system that can capture this very kind of feeling. You are manna from the sky

Would love to see you one day grab the bull by the horns and explore the whole interface between astrology and necromancy.
This is kinda it. Honestly the synthesis was basically abandoned and most Solomonic mage has very little to do with astrological elections, c.f., the total lack of astrological elections in the Lesser Key, which is certainly the most commonly used grimoire today. I have a pretty good understanding of Hellenistic and Medeival astrology, though it's just not something I'm terribly interested in. In fact, I wouldn't even consider astrology to be 'esoteric' in this period. I mean, it was literally taught in universities.
@@TheEsotericaChannel Ah, that explains a lot. I guess i assumed there must be more to it because of how demons & spirits are ordered by the 7 planets. And all those tables in Agrippa. I'm currently looking at a grimoire from 1505 that is spuriously associated with Johannes Georg Faust, and for each spirit associated with a planet, auspicious days of the week and hours to conjure and bind them are listed. I thought some "ephemeral election" might be behind this!
I need to give this a read. I’ve been developing a tabletop rpg that uses tarot or fortune decks instead of dice. The version I’m working on now uses Everway Company’s Fortune Deck which has the seven planets and the zodiac on the cards. This video gave me a great idea for translating one of the classes from my tarot version to the Everway one. Thanks for the inspiration, friend.

I haven't done any engineering since 2001, but my mind is now thinking about how a software system that could encapsulate all these rules might easily be written by someone still in the field. It's as though it's an ancient design specification. Of course, we'd need a time machine to transport a necromancer to 2024 and find a safe-enough crossroads for him to stand there with his laptop and play the incantations. I don't know about you folks, but in my area that'd be hard to find, except maybe in really quiet residential neighborhoods at midnight. But there are street lights, and some guy drawing circles and pentacles, and then standing in the middle with a laptop is gonna be spotted by some nosy person, who might trot out to find out what he was doing and if really good weed was involved.

Those old games took attention to detail very seriously!
This video inspires grave thoughts. Thank you for resurrecting my interest. Love your videos!
I feel like I'm in a time portal with every video I watch🌙
Thanks
If I watched this a read ago I would have no idea what this guy is saying but now that I’ve done my proper readings I’m so happy to understand everything going on here 🙏🏻❤️
Interesting to hear the "crossroads" being an ideal spot for rituals. As you said that idea continued into more contemporary times, but it immediately made me think of the musicians that "sold their soul to the devil" which the stories almost always involve meeting the "devil" at a crossroads
and "evil dead" as well as the necrnomicon just became real. thanks bro.
OK, I can’t stop thinking about the idea of conjuring a couple of mythed-off demons of different types, and they come up so mad about it all in general and at each other in specific that it turns into some sort of necromantic wrestling federation match. Hmmmmm… NWF Wrestling. 🤔

Astral wrestling is exactly what I imagine would happen summoning a bunch of demons who don’t ‘gel’
As a Christian myself love your videos! Explains a lot what's happening around us thank you! And Amen.
An amazing video! Thanks Dr. Sledge!
This is one of the works I have been searching for. Thank you for the direction.
You're a gift to humanity, you're hilarious and brilliant. Thank you for the great work.

G’d! Greetings from Brazil!
I practiced Necromancer magic for pyrokinesis, teleportation, dragontine serpent enchantment, and robe summoning.
Pray do tell how some of us are ready to walk the left hand path
Fond of ur cerebral presentation & ur dry sense of humor. Thanks for some fascinating info!
The game is called Mage the Ascension
actually its a very recent fortnite leak
Always appreciate a new episode. You are my favorite.
I love everything about this.
I'm designing right now a tabletop rpg with the intention to make a magic system that can capture this very kind of feeling.
You are manna from the sky
This was excellent... confirmed many things for me... THANK YOU!
You have always very interesting and undoubtedly unique content. I especially like it as it inspires me.
“Ask Cecco…you can’t because he’s ASHES” is a new favorite along side “Josh of Nazareth”
Classic!
Necromancy fleeex 😂😂😂 I'm going to be saying that for the rest of my life out of context forever thank you as always for the content and the laugh Dr. Sledge!
0:48 - Where might I learn more about this pre-Islamic "astral magic"?
Look into Sumerian and Babylonian magic
Damn, one of your best again, Dr. Sledge. Thanks. You’ve said a number of times in the past that astrology is not your forte, but it looks like - of necessity- you are having to grapple with it more and more.
With all this information about magic, demons, and angels, it's comforting to know that magic isn't real.
Isn't it, though?
super interesting, thanks. I like the idea of using the system for a game. Would love to see someone do something like that.
Love your videos. #Necromancyflex should be trending....
Thank you 🙏🏻 I enjoy learning. You are wonderful. ✨🧚🏻♂️✨
aw man. learning that i’ll never be able to talk to a demon just cause my mom didn’t get hitched is a real bummer.
That’s not true
Finally. I always had trouble making friends... but now, I should have no trouble at all!

I literally just began playing it again a few days ago :D
Woohoo new video! Much excite

Excited to learn more of the background of necromancy

For all the medieval inaccuracies of actual extant animals monks then had only heard tell of, their depiction of smiling demons with actual friendly expressions is something else...my learned contribution. Many a modern day practitioner would know of these manuscripts! And yet I've not heard of Montolmo's work until now here on Esoterica from the esteemed Justin Sledge! 🎉 📖 📚 😈 🌟 ! I do so appreciate the spiritual sequel to Astrological Necromancy! Did Cecco's bust end up beside Dee's on the shelf behind? I so appreciate the hand-off of research! How Cecco doesnt become a derived word now, like Commodus (iffy, for commode?) or other more accurate, is beyond me. For obstinacy. For foolish fateful obstinacy.
I wonder if it's related to astrolatry or Librae Lunae, Mansions of the Moon astrological magic, like the Picatrix! 🎉 📖 🌌
Oh, Hadean Press's pamphlet take on Summa Sacre Magice, Naming the Heavens! "Cecco's ashes!" ought to be a new expression on foolhardy pursuits! Like Quixote's windmills! Fascinating how demons are seen as "up there!" Kinda leads to the medieval and later thinking on prosecution/persecution to the witch trials, the moon and all, tides, phases... hey, the Four Kings! I'd wondered about the chimeral astrological signs...to snowball from below, astrological magic rpg/crpg kickstarter? Brings to mind as well, 🔮 💎 💧, so many learned author practitioners on historical mages would be nodding along in surety! I appreciate the contemporary evolution of magick beyond coercion to cooperation. So does that Key 🔑 await publishing or lost to time? ⌛️ ⏳️ ⌛️ Oh man, what a throughline that has me in awe of the roots of learned contemporary magick practice! 🎉 🌌 🌟 📖 📚 ✍️ 📜 the democratic liberality of freeing manuscripts for public reading AND 📚 book recommendations are amazing, Dr Sledge! 🎯 📚!! I do like the tinge of melancholy of the new iteration of end music! 🎹!
That's Agrippa!
@@TheEsotericaChannel oh pardon, Dr Sledge and Agrippa!! If you'd also like a bust of Paracelsus? 🎉
If only we knew what he looked like!
@@TheEsotericaChannel so the balding professor depicted even on episode thumbnails on the channel is at best an artistic guess? I'm astounded!
Yeah, it's the best guess but there are several version including the famous "fat" Paracelsus. I don't think any of them are regarded as true to life.

I thoroughly enjoy reading and listening to topics of the occult. Very interesting, probably more truth to it in reality than many other systems.
Bibliophiles name-dropping manuscripts is peak nerd. Love it.
Your intros are always so good
Magic is all about activating certain parts of human brain or to change the brain chemistry with certain magic rituals.
Didn't I see that ritual on 'Buffy'? 🤔
I can assure you, really good doesn't even begin to nail the potency of weed required.
Excellent video Dr. Sledge! Liked, and subscribed!!
Yay! I love necromancy!
