The Unhinged and Disturbing Case of Thomas Weir | Madman or Satanist?

  • This video will be about Thomas Weir, a man who was a respected member of his church and a former soldier. Towards the end of his life he made a number of deranged and dark confessions which were so unbelievable his confessions were confused for madness, but I'll let you be the judge, anyway let's get into the video.

    Personally i think he'd lost his mind and being deeply religious the occult was engrained in him, makes sense that he might have got twisted between the two, I think his poor sister was pressured either by torture or coerced into it thus sealing her own fate. Very intriguing i must say, hats off to you i think your channel is full of interesting and amazingly researched stories xx

    I think Thomas was a madman and his sister's confession was probably because of torture (or shame). Could they have been in an incestuous relationship? Sure. The shame from that would most likely have made them blame dark forces and/or the devil for it.

Each one an model of what the Bible traditionally calls the three enemies of the soul. The world (kinda like you described actually, a”system”) the flesh, and then the Devil. The Bible explains that the Devil manipulates the first two, creating as much chaos and evil as he can.
      I respect your thoughts on the matter. I just thought you may be served well by knowing, that Christians affirm your belief partially. Below are descriptions of these three enemies. Ty for posting.

    I feel people like Thomas and his Sister suffered terribly in those awful badly educated times!
    No one back then had no idea how to treat and support the mentally ill people, life for these poor souls was short, brutal and and tortuous harsh, very sad.

    • @J3diMindTrix
      @J3diMindTrix 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, but today's not much better, especially for those locked away in mental hospitals
      Allegations of abuse are rife; it wouldn't be hard to get away with either behind closed doors, against younger people considered schizophrenic, or older people already infirm, senile, and not sound of mind; medication to possibly incapacitate the victim or make them unable to recall events; with hardly any visitation from family who might chalk up any allegations to just wanting more attention, and highly medicated making them even less likely to be believed... I've seen recent cases where nursing homes had hidden camera footage evidencing horrific torture and abuse. Who knows what goes on there but I get the impression that a lot of the time, a lot of the people shouldn't be there; in the olden days a family member that was mentally slow, was, if they weren't just left to die in the forest, brought to institutions like these to be rid of them as they were an embarrassment - especially to wealthy, well-to-do families - and just left there, claiming that they were ill, and this was best for them. Nowadays we wouldn't just lock autistic kids away as it has been diagnosed, but other conditions still aren't considered as 'normal' or acceptable by mainstream society and where do they end up but long-term psychiatric care even if they could actually do something with their life given the chance

    • @mrsdoyle6828
      @mrsdoyle6828 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@historyprofiles this is almost certainly incorrect. Yes, he made his first 'confessions' voluntarily probably in a type of religious fervour, but he and his sister were then taken for 'interrogation'. So the apparently corroborating confession of Jane was quite possibly made under extreme duress, to say the least. Also the context of this is very important. Scotland had just lived through a period of intense literal witch hunts and a belief in the Dark Arts was culturally widespread. This pair were extremely religious and would have interpreted any mental stress suffered by Thomas as a visitation of evil.

    The main question seems to be, was he mad?
    There are many "elitists" who when confronted by a "friend" or associate, about the wrong doings (usualy insulting snobbishness) of a member of their family, will quickly disassociate with the accused by declaring him/her as mad!
    Thereby absolving themselves of any social bias.
    This is a common stance of community leaders and clergymen for reasons best known to them!
    As for the past dark associations and mystical powers it could subtly imply that they may revive this connection to their advantage!
    The truth about the confessions and lack of any sign of repentance seems irrelevant to us today as the whole issue could have been politicised like the "Salem" hangings!
    The question if satan does actually exist can be witnessed by a few who have experienced relief from "attacks" as magical as the attacks themselves, so it seems!

It has been used for the last 30 years as the Quaker Meeting House. Apparently the part that was his house is their toilet, which seems fitting. Considering that and the corroborating story of his sister, it makes it appear as if he was telling the truth. And coming from a Christian worldview myself, it's also been my experience that piety doesn't always translate into godliness, in fact some of the more deeply pious individuals in life are also the most sinister. It's been well said that Satan is religious, and I would agree. I believe this man was telling the truth.

    My passion for Pan the God of Nature was quite evident at at the age of 5. I do not Believe Thomas was a Satanist. This interpretation is aloof to those times, that it was the devil. Without existing knowledge of Pan. I am connected to the Realms of Fairy, Faerie as I spell it. It’s quite a daunting realisation to think my genetics and my natural inherent Belief in Pan came from this Satanist interpretation.

    In the days of burning witches, I don’t believe anyone was interested in the truth about anything. I don’t know how his sister was induced to confess because the story doesn’t say, but overall, those people lived in nearly complete superstition & even if they were committing vile & vulgar acts, that wouldn’t really distinguish them or their acts from what went on ordinarily, other than by the degree of depraved behavior, which records show was commonly carried out as spectator sport then, 9th-17th centuries. Only camera development slowed it down-somewhat. But then, “Who expects a Spanish Inquisition?”

    If you have ever seen someone with advanced dementia there would be no doubt in your mind he had it. Add the typical “interrogation” style of the time on the sister and I believe that explains it. Neither of them had children so no one was there to take care of them, and that made them easy pickings. No one could pull off that much bestiality without causing a ruckus and people would have caught on. Not to mention the servants talking. If he did have relations with his sister, that’s 🤮 but easier to hide. So I don’t believe it.

    Satan has been around a long time! I didn’t realize until six months ago how much his presence was. Here and now, the fights on!

      I agree with you. Satanic groups are all over these days. There have been large groupings at black masses in the USA and Canada this year. As well as I have seen billboards advertising both " The Temple and Church of Satan. One said on it-" Abortion saves lives- Our religious abortion ritual circumvents state restrictions " I'm paraphrasing but just search" satanic billboards ". Time to put on the armour of God , and pray.

    I think he did all of those things but don’t believe he was actually in touch with the devil. In those times taboo sex acts were clearly punishable by death so the guilt of that probably made him feel like the devil was making him do that. The sister probably felt the same way. He was just a pervert lol

    Is it possible he and his sister had syphilis? I do believe they probably had a relationship and I can see an army man could have easily contracted syphilis and brought it home with him. If that is so then his memory of those things would be unreliable and he may have thought them real.
    Regardless, you got a new sub with that video.

      Good Point! Syphilis can infect the central nervous system which can cause dementia and even psychosis. I highly doubt most of it happened but I agree he might of thought they did.

    Could be a shared disillusion and perhaps they were both mentally ill rare but happens, I'm leaning toward them being Satanists though. Cause that's just too much lol.

    It doesn't really sound like Satanism. Sounds more like they had some history of paganism in the family and at some point they became actual Xtians....and began to freak out that they were sinning and felt they needed to publicly reject their paganism. My family, the Robinson family, has a similar pagan back ground connected with the God Robin aka Robin Goodfellow. I notice some in our family (like myself) love and enjoy our oral history.....and some don't. The ones that don't are usually evangelicals.

    Seems pretty Satanistic to me,, you have confessions from 2 different sources. I would think the goal of these types is to be as discrete as possible and do as much "damage" to the Christian way as possible.

    I would say most of it was true,why would his sister lie knowing they both would burn,she still admitted to her part in it also
