Dante doesn't see Boniface in Hell, because Boniface was still alive in AD 1300, when the story takes place. Rather, as recounted in Canto XIX of the Inferno, Dante discovers Pope Nicholas III trapped head-down in a round hole, like all the other Simoniacs, flames making their lower legs jerk about. This shade of Nicholas III, hearing Dante asking him a question, mistakenly assumes it is the voice of the soul of Boniface VIII, who is fated to be trapped in that same hole in several years' time (he himself to be plunged deeper into the fires below). The Damned seem to have a certain prophetic knowledge, and Nicholas knew Boniface would be damned . . . but now, hearing Dante's voice and assuming it was Boniface come too soon, he seems to wonder if "the record" ["lo scritto"] had lied to him, being 'off' by "several years" ["parecchi anni"] (line 54).
I'm sure that if Boniface had died before Easter weekend of AD 1300, Dante would have portrayed the man already in Hell, in that 3rd bolgia of the 8th Circle, suffering for the sin of Simony. As Boniface was still alive then, however, Dante did the next-best-thing: he had a predecessor sufferer declare that Boniface was destined for damnation in that very spot for that very sin of Simony.

God sure seems disinterested in the scandal-plagued Catholic Church. He supposedly turned Lot’s wife into a pillar of salt for disobedience, yet is totally cool with centuries, nay, millennium of corruption, church-sanctioned torture, murder and rape. Abusive priests.
Then again, Old Testament God was an incredibly amoral and insecure deity who left quite the bodycount behind. Like a 7 year old boy with a magnifying glass messing with a couple of anthills.
There is precious little to respect about this institution, or it’s followers for putting up with these shenanigans for so long.

    • @winifredthompson465

The Catholic Church have done everything to distort the true christainity that was preached by Jesus and the apostles. 1. They twisted the 10 commandments, thou shalt not make unto thy self any graven immages. They left this one out. 2. They changed the Holy Sabbath day to Sunday after Constantine made it the sabbath day, they followed suit. 3. They used the image of one of the popes sons to use in the picture of Jesus Christ. 4 they sent over 50 million christain people and hunted them and killed them like rats because they refused to bow down to the popes commands. Daniel stated Ch. 7 V. 23 that man would change Gods time table and days, and so they did. 5. They sold indulgence to people, and frauded them telling them the more they paid to the pope, the shorter their time would be in Portatarry, no such a place mentioned in Holy scripture. 6. Today we have all the scandles of the priests and hierarchy of the church abusing children.
No wonder the Book of Revelation states, Come out of her my people, and be not Partakers of her evil deeds. There are very good Catholic people and this above statement is not against them. This statement is about the CATHOLIC Church itself. Have nothing to do with this Compulsory Sunday Worship. Look into it, and find the truths for yourselves. May Almighty God show you HIS TRUTHS, and not the truths of men. winifred Thompson, Lisburn, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Philip IV was in debt to several major groups and he used his power to destroy those groups - the Lombard merchants who had loaned him large sums were arrested, their property seized, and the debt wiped out; the largest lender was the Knights Templar and he did the same to them. As for that list of charges against the Pope, it sounds suspiciously similar to a list levelled against Philip IV.

Brian, it's the same bologna that was always tossed against anyone running afoul of a monarch, noble, or Kingdom in that era: demonic consultation or conversation with Satan, astrology, witchcraft, sorcery, s*d*my, incest, bestiality, blasphemy, heresy, apostasy, (ironically) atheism, treason, conspiracy, murder, were all medieval "trump charges" lobbed at enemies of the state. This is why Philip IV ended up getting the same list against him.
As for France, they are correct, as the Papacy had never held political, earthly control at any point when they were fully and thoroughly Orthodox. They only gradually grafted these powers on after obtaining the forged Donation of Constantine, which was used first by the Papacy against us in the 11th century in their rash and heretical addition of Filioque to the Creed, and then against the checks-and-balances system of Popes and Emperors having direct (and later, veto) power over one another's elevations, the Pope through crowning and the Emperor through election and later, after the establishment of the Cardinaliate, the power of veto.
It was wholesome figures like Boniface VIII who began to use the Donation to establish direct Earthly control, both over the Papal States and over all unclaimed lands (which, at the time, were islands) and then, later and even more preposterously, over the whole world, hence the (according to Vatican 1, valid!) Papal definition of submission of every human creature that Boniface VIII made in Unam.
Prior to the Donation, the Patriarch of Constantinople had been granted de facto authority in unclaimed territory as part of settling with Rome what the division of the Church of the "two Romes" exactly was, and this was ecclesial, never worldly, authority. If Philip IV had debt to settle with organizations under Rome's control, then he had such a debt, but the Pope had no right to it for the reasons that he claimed that he did.

The adage History is written by the victors rings true. Phillip IV and Boniface VIII locked in a power struggle. The Papacy would soon be moved to Avignon in France by 1309. Boniface was a real piece of work to be sure. One wonders what we'd be reading about Phillip had events turned the other way.

I'll never forget having discussions with a priest long ago and him telling me that the church's belief was that the pope is infallible. My response to him was even though he may believe that, it wasn't true and was a reckless and naive view toward the evils of mankind. He didn't like that very much. The common thread of symbolism's, rituals, wardrobes and architecture between egyptology, paganism, the occult and catholicism is easy to see. Even the word 'vatican' itself comes from the estruscan goddess of the underworld, vatika.

Well you have to go back a few thousand years, in Christianity there needed to be a representative of the people to take away the atrocities and sins they committed that went against their civilization and God, this representative was specialized in his profession to do this, which was essentially what priests were. At one point in Judaism the priests became way too corrupt and it is believed God would sent a representative or messenger to turn them back to Him, at some point God sent his own Son and this Son of his had his own disciples, at some point when the Son was killed those disciples/apostles spread to many parts of the Roman empire to preach this Christ's death and resurrection. One of these disciples was named Peter and he went to Rome to preach, another James stayed in Jerusalem and another went to Alexandria in Egypt and another to Antioch in Syria and the others went to other parts of the worldas far as India and Armenia and I think even Russia. The people used to called these apostles and their successors "dads" or "popes" or patriarchs. The most famous one being from Rome. Hence why we called the Pope from Rome Papa. At one point there was a schism in between the patriarchs/papas like a thousand years later but that's another story. Eventually the Roman church became the strongest in between them and built civilization in Europe but with time like all things it became too riddle with corruption and at some point like 1500AD a man named Martin Luther decided to reform the Roman Catholic Church, well it didn't go as he wanted so Martin started his own church and then other people started doing the same and at some point people started calling the priests "pastors" to refer to em like in the Old Testament of the Bible when God illustrates of shepherding His people. Which is why you have Pope, priest and pastor today. Hope that helped a bit!!

And now, Pope Francis exclaimed hell doesn’t exist? Pure blasphemy. How many souls, from his blasphemous proclamation will be separated from God forever? Itt’s chilling! I do believe they/re are good, Christian Catholics, who love the Lord and will meet Jesus face to face when they die. But the masses, who believe ‘Francis cares about their Salvation is heart-wrenching. Thankfully, the Catholics I know, here in Alabama, don’t like him or believe his pronounced doctrine. I just pray Catholics will realize the truth of this Pope, who is similar to your subject. I learned something new today and you never fail to create interesting history videos. Thank you!

I think Bonfice the 8th was an ambitious man that bribed Celestine to abdicate so he could use the absolute authority of the church and in return promised Celestine a castle (and other things)...and (a year later) Boniface had a hand in whatever killed Celestine in order to keep the bribe between themselves. I also think that because he was making the church look bad though exercising his authority in blatantly tyrannical ways the church peoples created rumors about him so that he would of been seen as increasingly subversive to the public which lead to his downfall...the fact thst he died before his trial makes it seem like someone or a number of people must of really had it out for him...but I doubt he actually was a Satanist.

Pope Boniface didn’t invent something new, Kings weren’t supposed to be able to appoint bishops and they pleased, yet Philippe IV wanted that power, so when Boniface wasn’t gonna let him do that, Philipe fabricated charges and wanted to depose him and chose a pope of his own liking that will support him. Philipe also used the “satanic” argument against the Knights Templar. The Templars were very rich and had a lot of power, so Philippe fabricated a lie that they worshipped the devil, and he took all of their money and properties . He also had the next pope after Boniface to come to Avignon (in France), where he could control him. Philipe was not a faithful catholic, and to depict him in this video, as sort of a good man trying to save the Church from a corrupt pope is the dumbest things I’ve heard all day. Against, this is pure propaganda, and in no history course, catholic or not catholic, will you learn that Boniface VIII was a know satanist and everybody hating him. Yes Dante puts him in Hell, but Dante is a poet, this is his opinion.

Bad history, my man. You present the political accusations of Philip without any attempt to even sort out the politics of the time. Philip is the same king who suppressed the Templars in order to raid their treasury, accusing them of worshipping “Baphomet”, a fiction of the French king, and forcing confessions to that fact by means such as burning their feet off in a fire. The poor men were required to carry their burned bones with them as they struggled to the witness box in court. Philip visited violence on another Pope, Clement, in order to force him to agree to the suppression of the Templars. But you present him as a righteous, if ambitious leader. Philip didn’t want to prevent the despoiling of French national wealth, Philip wanted to build Philip’s personal wealth. Many of your images are not of the period. Your rush to embrace the most extreme of the propaganda of the time suggests a prejudice against religion in general or the Roman church in particular.

You are misinformed, i think, as are most people on most things (by design of course). Your response is the one the Luciferians who rule this world today desire. Let me give you my opinion:
This pope, along with all others, have always been Luciferians. The Catholic church doctrine flies in the face of scripture in every significant way (i am not referring to their public stance on social and political issues, but of the details of the way the religion is structured). In addition to all the plain facts that are verifiable by anyone which contradict the bible, there is also some less known facts, like the extensive museum/ library/ vault in the basement of the vatican, which contain many satanic depictions and ritual instruments (and who knows what else). Face the facts: the catholic church (not the people, just the hierarchy) is a Satanic institution, and always has been. Today is no different imo.

      @guibox3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@th3unmaker No gullibility or indoctrination. Of course there are people that worship the devil. However, It is a known fact (and the Salem witch trials bear this out) that the church and kings used false charges of 'witchcraft' and 'conspiring with the devil' all the time against a political enemy or who they deemed as a heretic. False witnesses, confession from torture (and if you torture someone enough they will confess their mother set the Great Chicago Fire. That doesn't make it so). The perfect way for an enemy to lose political allies and power was to play the 'devil worship' card. Most of the time the church and political enemies greatly benefited from the accused losing power or being executed. Any of these charges being leveled in history must be taken with a grain of salt.
