I will say that if you've been following MGS all the way through, MGS4 is one of the best closing chapters for any franchise. The gameplay even made some great changes to controls and even concepts like the camouflage. Having that been said, I'd still recommend the first MGS as a starting point (helps that there's recaps of the first two) and even MGS 2 and 3 are somewhat self contained enough for new players. MGS 4? HELL NO. I'd still put it in S teir for how incredible it is, but the previous three are much better as introductions go.

I have a good idea for a tier list. JRPGs. So it'd be a wide variety of cult classic JRPGs for a tier list or something, like Persona 3, 4 & 5, Dragon Quest, Xenoblade series, the Mario & Luigi games. I think it'd be an interesting topic personally.
I've only ever beaten Metal Gear Solid for PS1 and the remake for Gamecube (which I loved. What is wrong with it again?). MGS was a revelation when I played it as I had never experienced a game quite like it, and when I found out that it was the same franchise as the game I played at my cousins house as a little kid that I sucked at (Metal Gear for NES) I was blown away. I got fairly deep into MGS2 but eventually gave up as I was struggling to focus on video games at that time in my life. The GBC game was fantastic imo and doesn't get talked about enough so I'm glad you put it in A. Everyone says 3 is the best in the original series so I think I might start with that next and then if I really get hooked on it and finish the game I'll work my way back to 2. I have no idea what direction the series went off in after 4 because I recall Kojima saying that he was done with the series after 4, but my memory could be wrong. Anyway, sorry for all of the random thoughts. I didn't really have a point to anything I said but I felt like typing this shit out anyway.
I haven't really played many MGS games. I own 1, 4, Phantom Pain, Rising, Ghost Babel, and Acid, but just haven't gotten around to playing more than maybe 15 hours of Phantom Pain, the first hour or so of 4, a little bit of Rising and Ghost Babel, then never touched the others.
@@grankwastaken I enjoy collecting games, but don't always have the time to play them. I played 5 a lot cause it was the game I talked to with a co-worker all the time. They no longer work with me and no one else in my group of friends cares about the series, so I just didn't bother starting any of the others.
Snake's Revenge is the only Metal Gear game not to have Metal Gear in the title. It's an alternate to Metal Gear 2. The story goes, it was made at the same time as Metal Gear 2 and both teams in both games didn't realise the other was being made till it was a little too late. The decision was to make both games and release them both.
Personally I'd put 2 over 3, but the first three solid games are all great and I go back and forth on which of the 3 is the best. As a fellow metal gear fan who's played most of the games I think your tier is pretty on point though. I would probably bump ground zeros up a bit because I view it as the "tanker chapter" of phantom pain, and that's how it's sold nowadays since definitive experience release includes both. But considering how it was originally sold your ranking is fair. I'm glad you ranked peace Walker so high, it's a really great game.
The only thing I don’t like about Peacewalker are the boss battles. Of course they were designed with multiplayer in mind, but unfortunately they are very unbalanced for single player which is the only way I’ve ever played the game. That being said it was by far my favorite PSP/Vita game ever made and it’s even better on PS3 in my opinion. It is so addictive, and I honestly couldn’t stop playing it with the base building, equipment building, staff collection and all that great stuff. I just wish those boss battles would have been better.
Ignoring the mistake that is Metal Gear Survive, the lowest ranking games being a sequel that wasn't needed and what is really a prologue sold by itself isn't too shabby. I certainly don't disagree with any of the S rank choices, particularly with the clarification that 3 is the best among them.
My thing with MGSV is it’s not that the story itself is bad, it’s that the way they presented it is infuriating. Like the actual missions and cutscenes are so barebones and all the cool shit is shoved in tapes for the most part. Most of the character development and details not shown in missions show up in cassette tapes and if you don’t listen to them then the game feels shallow and like it makes no sense. Skull Face is one of my favorite metal gear villains because of how he is portrayed in the tapes. In tapes he’s very cunning, manipulative, smart, it always feels like he’s one step ahead, he has a clear goal and is very calculating. However in game he has like 10 minutes of screen time and he just seems like a generic Bond villain who dies unceremoniously. So many issues with the story would be fixed if they had just incorporated the gold tapes as main story cutscenes, and the normal tapes as optional scenes that can be triggered at mother base.
I think the gray tapes should’ve been radio calls (some gray tapes are more important than others so have some of them be mandatory and other’s optional) and have gold tapes be cutscenes. If V did that it’s story would have been a lot more well received because most of its flaws in terms of writing are flaws a lot of the other metal gear games have as well.
Why skip the cutscenes of MGS5? I love the cutscenes in that game, they're beautiful. Also the story of MGS5 ties into the old MSX games. The story really isn't that bad. The worst part is that it leaves like two plot-threads dangling and that's because of Konami's meddling. There was meant to be another entire map on top of Afghanistan and Africa.
I still believe you, rabbidluigi, ought to expand to 7 tiers: S, A, B, C, D, E, and F, just so that you could give a better sense of what's meh, what's fairly good, what's fairly bad, what's great, what's awful, what's absolutely amazing, and what's absolutely terrible, you know? While you could get away with ranking smaller game series, like Metal Gear, with 5 tiers: S, A, B, C, and D, I believe that having 7 tiers to work with would be especially helpful with ranking game series that are quite expansive, such as the Mario, Zelda, and Sonic the Hedgehog series, since having so many games up at S tier personally (though I'm unlikely to be alone here) makes me think like S tier isn't all that hyped as it supposedly should be. (I believe it would also give a sense as to whether the best or worst games of a series were as amazing or terrible as the best or worst games of other series. For example, as bad as Metal Gear Survive might've been compared to the rest of the Metal Gear series, how terrible would it be compared to the likes of, say, the CDi Legend of Zelda games, or Sonic 06?) The addition of a not-played tier is understandable though if you haven't played all of the games.
I dont think its right to separate Phantom Pain. This was a clear reference to MGS2 Tanker Mission. You start with Snake, and then there is a secret character switch. I feel even though its super short, its has more charisma than many other bigger games- like finding a path based on the sounds from a tape. Its meant to be a prologue to Phantom Pain and I wouldnt put it lower. Also, Twin Snake should be up there, at least A if not S rank- Yes one boss fight is much easier, and yes, I also found it riddiculous when Snake jumped of a rocket that flew towards him, but the cutscenes with Raven, the one after Ocelot boss fight, Gray fox intro, and the last fight were so incredibly cool and the choreography is amazing even today. Simple- the good greatly outweighs the bad, and even though I usually love older games- it is still better than the first game- or at least on par- because it does many things better. Besides, nobody is forced to use first person aiming so why complain if you can play it the same way as the original.
I'd put MGSV PP at A and every other game in "Haven't played", but I still like this franchise and I enjoy watching gameplay of the games, especially speed runs.
The thing i love about PW is that Adrenaline rush in the 2nd Peace Walker fight, and for some reason it stuck on me, it might be because it was my first mgs, but even after playing almost all of them (who the fuck cares about survive, and portable ops is coming... one day..) it just fucking hypes the hell out of me. Oh yeah almost forgot about the Zeke JPOP BOSS BATTLE. Yeah it was pretty good, I understand why some people won't like it because of the grind and tank/Heli bosses, and the lack of traditional boss fights, but it was already such a different thing compared to the rest, why not go further.
Personally, this list is perfectly fine, if you put the twin snakes in A It's the original, but over-the-top trying to be funny in scenes that aren't sometimes brighter lighting, (actually, I don't mind it) hard beginning (I had trouble in the beginning, oddly enough) And BEYOND EASY (I played on normal, mind you) in the later parts
MGS 2 was my 1st metal gear. I rate it high because for me it introduced me to the legend of snake, I was literally being coached by him through my 1 at game. So it added to the character if that makes sense.
Whats wierd is i played 3, then rr, aka the 2 games without solid snake, then i played 4, and i was fully invested in everything. Im currently playing 1, and then will play 2.
In my opinion MGS3 and peacewalker can take away the s rank by themselves! They're just amazing! Just btw peacewalker is between portable ops and ground zeroes (that's why snake says kept you waiting huh at the very start of it), phantom pain developed its greatness using peacewalker as base, and even then its not as good. Sorry I just really love that game, don't even know how many times I've played it! Cool video man!

How does one own such a thing as ghost babel, but has only played 5 is beyond me hahahaha
@@grankwastaken I enjoy collecting games, but don't always have the time to play them. I played 5 a lot cause it was the game I talked to with a co-worker all the time. They no longer work with me and no one else in my group of friends cares about the series, so I just didn't bother starting any of the others.
I'm glad you like Peace Walker, I love it.
I started with MGS2 so my perspective on Raiden is very different.
Me: *haven't played any of the other metal gear games* "RISING BELONGS IN S TIER!"
C tier max terrible metal gear game with bad characters and bad story
@@Serhik-id1fh You must have never played the game or your taste is just d tier
@@Leon_S._Kennedy you must have never play any other metal gear game lol
Snake's Revenge is the only Metal Gear game not to have Metal Gear in the title.
It's an alternate to Metal Gear 2.
The story goes, it was made at the same time as Metal Gear 2 and both teams in both games didn't realise the other was being made till it was a little too late. The decision was to make both games and release them both.
Aura of Rabbidluigi's MGS Teir list: The story to these games are weird.
nice detail putting metal gear rising in A. A for armstrong
Metal Gear is your favorite series? Huh I'm shocked. Cool!
Twin Snakes was my first lol.
Mgs3 is my favorite metal gear game. It's so weird but so good. Probably my favorite story of any game too.
I wish there were human bosses in the game too. They were all robots, war vehicles or helicopters.
Only thing I'd change is maybe move VR Missions up to A. It scratched a fairly bothersome MGS itch at the time of it's release.
Ignoring the mistake that is Metal Gear Survive, the lowest ranking games being a sequel that wasn't needed and what is really a prologue sold by itself isn't too shabby. I certainly don't disagree with any of the S rank choices, particularly with the clarification that 3 is the best among them.
24:10 which Metal gear 5 is this?
there’s like two or three
I really like this series so far, but I would I like it if you'd went about it a tad bit faster
I think it’s a bit relaxed
9:40
Me whenever I attempt public speaking
MGS is still the best. All the other mainline entries have issues.
2:01 obviously i mean take a guess what his Outro is from
My thing with MGSV is it’s not that the story itself is bad, it’s that the way they presented it is infuriating.
He cut himself on metal gear rising.
It wasn't meant to be part of the game anyway
It just suppose to be some sort of DLC
For example, as bad as Metal Gear Survive might've been compared to the rest of the Metal Gear series, how terrible would it be compared to the likes of, say, the CDi Legend of Zelda games, or Sonic 06?)
The addition of a not-played tier is understandable though if you haven't played all of the games.
How is it possible that everybody on the network put mgs4 so below, i can't believe it, it's just perfect
@Kiryu so?
Peace walker is the 12th most selling game on PSP. Thats pretty good considering how many hundreds of titles are on there.
I'd put MGSV PP at A and every other game in "Haven't played", but I still like this franchise and I enjoy watching gameplay of the games, especially speed runs.
We don't even need to consider Survive a MGS game.
Your thoughts on Phantom Pain is pretty much what I think about Metroid Other M.
Bad story, however the gameplay is fun.
Just wanna say again...you _can_ add more tiers lol
FINALLY SOME PEACE WALKER REPRESENTATION!
Well have a video like this next week where he ranks spec ops.
Yeah it was pretty good, I understand why some people won't like it because of the grind and tank/Heli bosses, and the lack of traditional boss fights, but it was already such a different thing compared to the rest, why not go further.
personally love the story of MGSV the way it connects to the other games but hey i might be weird.
Hello yes I am here for this. My life has been made.
Personally, this list is perfectly fine, if you put the twin snakes in A
It's the original, but
over-the-top
trying to be funny in scenes that aren't sometimes
brighter lighting, (actually, I don't mind it)
hard beginning (I had trouble in the beginning, oddly enough)
And BEYOND EASY (I played on normal, mind you) in the later parts
It would be really nice if the Nintendo Switch got some good Metal Gear Solid games, though I sadly do not think that will ever happen.
I KNOW! Konami is sitting on a GOLD MINE and just refuses to act upon it. -__-
This comment aged well!
phantom pain is the greatest unfinished game in history.
MGS 2 was my 1st metal gear. I rate it high because for me it introduced me to the legend of snake, I was literally being coached by him through my 1 at game. So it added to the character if that makes sense.
30:24 Ah yes, my favourite number: S.
Spoiler Alert
*They're all 10/10*
Survive: 👋
Oscar McCormack -10/10
Whats wierd is i played 3, then rr, aka the 2 games without solid snake, then i played 4, and i was fully invested in everything. Im currently playing 1, and then will play 2.
The PsVita has MGS2, 3, portable ops, and peace walker(maybe more). So that’s quite a bit of portable metal gear haha
If you’ve played all the Ace Attorney games, a case ranking would be fun, or just the games
Can you start linking the tiers, so we can play along? I find it hard to find the exact one.
I agree with MPO, but i highly disagree with PW being an S rank Metal Gear game.
