  • While there are a bunch of small SUVs to choose from in 2022, the humble small hatchback is still a very strong choice. In this category, you have a few choices from brands like Toyota, Skoda and even Audi. But it's clear that Kia wants to take on the popular VW Polo with this updated Kia Rio. Find out if it's worth buying the Rio, or simply just head to your nearest VW dealership instead.

I bought the RIO GT LINE 6 months ago and I love it. It's my fist KIA and it exceeds my expectations. My wife and I fight over who gets to drive the Rio. It's a lot of fun and the big screen and safety features are first class.

Following watching this review, and the positive comments I just bought the RIO GT Line Plus. Interesting spec differences in specs between you one in Australia and my one here in New Zealand, all GT lines here come as standard spec proximity key and push button start. The blanked out buttons down by the gear lever are in mine: the outside left and right are heated seats, the second in from the right is for the heated steering wheel. I’ve been very impressed with the car. For anyone test driving one try changing the driving mode (button in front of gear level), the car defaults to ‘eco’ mode which is okay but a bit sluggish when pulling out, in ‘sport’ mode it transforms the performance to be quite nimble and lively acceleration, on downshift it’ll also do a rally car style accelerator blip as it goes down one gear - very lively performance for a little 1L turbo. Mine with Sat Nav unfortunately required an Aux cable to connect to Apple car play, the models without Sat nav connect without a cable - so bit odd the higher model stereo doesn’t have this ability. The car handles very well through windy roads. Economy wise I’m averaging 5.7L/100km with commuting in a combination of open road and very heavy stop/start traffic. The smart cruise control only operates when the car is at 50km/h, not lower. The lane keep assist on the whole works well but it does occasionally get confused. The blind spot detection works exactly as it should. I’’m just on 6ft and find the seating is very comfortable for my hour commute each way to work, the dash cluster also has full visibility which I do have issues with in some cars with being a little tall. A fantastic car.

I'm interested in this car and thought I'd check reviews for it, including this one. I'm in Canada and, while I knew this review was from a different country given the location of the steering wheel, I'm surprised this this car is so totally different the car is to the one we're getting in Canada that it may as well be a different model! The one we have has a 1.6 liter naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine and a CVT as opposed to a 1.0 liter turbo 3 cylinder engine and a dual clutch automatic! Nice, informative review all the same.

After test driving this a few months ago and then the facelifted Polo last month I went with the Polo…a much more refined car all around especially in the cabin. Far better safety and tech than the Rio as well.
I do like the Rio, had a 2017 Rio EX in NZ a few years back. Only issue was it was pitifully underpowered with a 4 speed auto.

Hi Cameron! I just watched your Picanto review from less than a year ago and now I’m currently trying to decide on one of these two, it’s going to be my first car. The Picanto is smaller (good for the city, bad for when you need trunk space) and the Rio looks cooler imo, but maybe it’s a little too much for a first car, idk. What are your thoughts? Thanks mate! Greetings from Barcelona 👌🏻

    • @ProductReviewCars
      @ProductReviewCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hey Matt! Thank you for your support! The Rio is still really good for the city. To be honest, it's just that little bit more comfortable for longer trips. However, if the Picanto is a lot cheaper, I'd just go with that as a first car. Hope that helps!

This is interesting.. i ordered My new Rio gt LINE about 5 months Ago. Still wating, one month to go. Here in europe it is mild hybrid and you got a keyless system with start Button.. dct transmission is only option and it has a driving mode selection.. what is The reason that there IS no these options in Australia? With The mild hybrid you can get a 20 horsepower More from electric motor If you accelerate hard..

Previous gen Rio had a 1.6 na use to punch out about 100kw coupled with a manual or 6sp auto went like a rocket . should have used that combo in this Rio would have been far better than 61kw per tonn

So does the GT-Line S come in both variations of the engine i.e. with or without the 48V hybrid? I thought it could only come in the mild hybrid version and therefore the power is 118bhp not 99bhp...

    pros
value for money (23k back in 2019)
    fuel economy
    can deactivate start stop
    autonomous braking
stiffer suspension allows more spirited handling
    cons
huge turbo/DCT lag when you floor it
