Just bought a Kia Rio 2021 hatchback and it's awesome! Tech features are stellar and it's so much fun to drive..great handling. And it doesn't LOOK like a compact car. It has a nice body shape and is not a tiny rollerskate-looking car.
Lack of Push-Start ignition on the RIO is *NOT* a disadvantage. Push-Button Start is a solution to a problem that simply didn't exist. Plus, read the owner's manual. There are a number of utterly ridiculous reasons why a car equipped with it, won't recognize the key-fob assigned to it. _Translation ~_ Your car won't start. Thus leaving you stranded wherever you might be. (How lovely.) It's worse than useless. At least a useless feature can be ignored or switched off if it comes equipped as standard on a car a buyer wants. Push-Button Start is something you can't ignore. Comes with zero advantages over a traditional folding key on a car's fob, and comes with the HUGE disadvantage of not working at all. A very real possibility. But, that's not an issue on the RIO. Also, cars in this segment tend to be kept longer by their owners; since those owners are on a budget. Long-term reliability is important. So is a good, long warranty in case something breaks down. Again, the RIO has the clear advantage over these two competitors.
Why do you hate keyless start so much? You say there are a number number of ridiculous reasons why a car won’t start with it but don’t mention any. I had the same opinion as you regarding keyless start until i bought my first car with keyless start some 10 years ago and since then I’ve had multiple keyless every cars and i have never been stranded anywhere. It does come with an advantage over a traditional key as it is very convenient not to have to grab the key about of your pocket.
I will honestly just go for the Suzuki Swift (But in the GL Navigator Plus trim), since your saving a few grand and close to the $20 grand mark. You might miss out on some performance feature (it a city car after all). However, you do get the same suite of safety features as present in the GLX Turbo. The only other subcompact that still retains the "Value for money" proposition but still has some active-safety gear is the Skoda Fabia.
The thing about the Toyota Yaris is that it is too light: 2,315lbs, compared to the Rio: 2,762 lbs. You can feel this if you ride the cars on the highway. The lighter the car, the more motion sickness the riders are prone to. I've had this issue while driving the Yaris, but I've never had this issue driving the Rio.
Lmao, that's what I thought when they showed the Yaris during the 'exterior design' segment. Dry heaved when they said "I think the Yaris is the best looking here"
Kia should have used the old 1.6 na eng they use to use in the Rio use to punch out about 100kw or better still should have used the 1.6 Cerato gt eng at 150kw Sur would have cost a few thousand more but what fun it would be
Cars a size bigger not to mention safer.I just picked up a used Mazda 3 2008 Maxx for a fraction of the price of these pretend wanna be cars the modern younger generation go for thanks to easyauto123.108kw from a 2.0l and just over 1200kg.just over 7 grand once the alarm was factored in and registration and other things after the down payment was done.I am aware it's 13 years old with 201,000km but not having to worry about turbo insurance(as opposed to the Kia)or not having enough power to escape in an emergency(as opposed to any of them)and the rest speaks for itself.I would rather personally give an older proven small car a second life of 5 to 7 years(to match the newcomers here on the warranty)then repeat the process on a later model.
@@denero4735 I know as love & always have had Toyota cars. However ... actually went to a yard the other day to check out this new Yaris Cross, sat inside, thought it pretty basic to say the least. Salesman appeared asked is this the basic version, he said no this is the top of the range. I replied this is $32,000 worth, pretty plain considering all the hype. His reply well it is only a Yaris & it's already $34,000. Just wasn't impressed. Awesome cars no doubt, but spending 25-26k for small hatch in this era seems bit more coz you can but a small suv for that price like Seltos or used Outlander (excellent option) 💁♂️ just a thought
What a depressing selection of flawed and overpriced city cars. You'd have to be desperately low on garage space not to buy a Cerato or i30 over any of these.
Honestly I test drove both the Rio GT and the Cerato Sport and the Rio felt just as spacious with the back seats down has almost 950L boot capacity and was nicer and more fun to drive so I bought it instead.
The Rio (Auto-corrected twice for Rip) doesn't fit in much in this comparison. Kia has a picanto which would suit better. The Suzuki Baleno or a corolla hatchback would be a good fit for comparison with the Rio. Anyway, my father's S-class would beat these three together.

Kia Rio GT-Line.
Purchased one a few weeks ago.
Great looking car. Fun to drive. Can be frugal in Eco mode.
It’s the Rio for me
My Yaris is 14 yrs old now never gave me problem at all. Thinking of upgrading to a new one this year.
The Kia Rio gt is now $25,990 as of purchasing one yesterday
I got one down to $25,000 yesterday

My Kia Rio Gt-line from 2018 has Sat-Nav, Keyless start, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert. How strange these are gone now??
Maybe this is the low end version, mine kia rio 2019 has them too including auto cruise.

Yeah we don’t get those features in australia
Suzuki swift sounds great!
Will pick the Rio but a bit worried about the noise entering the cabin
It’s quite quiet when my auntie drove one

Where is the Volkswagen polo or mg MG3 or Skoda fabia or Honda Jazz or Mazda 2 or Suzuki Baleno
How can you say the Yaris is the best looking. It ugly as sin.
