- In this video, Jenny reviews the new 2019 Kia Rio in the top GT-Line trim.
It’s meant to be compact affordable transportation. This is a nice way to say it is not really pushing the boundaries of the industry in any way, but is it pushing the boundaries of what we expect from a Kia Rio?
The latest Rio GT-Line has a modern design, a new engine and gearbox, more tech and it’s supposed to drive better than ever before.
Moreover, it is the top trim, so it is bound to come with some goodies, despite the drive away price of just under $23k.
The GT-Line also has a new engine and a new gearbox. The engine is a 3-cylinder 1L turbo petrol with 88 kW and 172 Nm of torque. This does not sound like much, but the turbo really makes a big difference.
The Australian Kia Rio lineup has 4 gearbox options, including one manual, two automatics and a dual-clutch (DCT).

I can't believe how many people think that having no push-button start is a deal-breaker for any car. You honestly would not buy a car because you need to use a key to start it? Regardless of anything else on it and the price? That's just lazy
You've obviously never had a push to start. Once you got it you can never go back 😜

pleasantly surprised with this car. If I had to go and purchase a small car, I think this will take the cake as it has decent performance for the price range. Shame no proximity and push start features. Nice review Jenny
The lack of proximity key, push button start and automatic climate control are deal breakers on what is the top spec Rio.
Hyundai REALLY should have brought in the "new generation" i20 with all these features and more.
That leaves the Suzuki Swift 1.0 Turbo as an excellent alternative to the Rio for exactly the same cost (and it has a smooth and reliable torque converter auto, not a stuttering DCT).

Just bought one myself, the warranty was the big tick for me.
& how do you feel about it? I legit chose it for the dual clutch/lower fuel consumption but now I have to wait for it to arrive I'm thinking I should have just gotten the second hand golf like I originally planned because I keep reading the consumption is closer to 9L/100km and that's higher than my Hilux 😂😂
Bec Peterson i have 7000km on mine now and its average is 6.3. Its a great car, make sure to always turn off stop start feature too : )
@@bobdylan2843 is the stop start feature no good? Also do you do many longer commutes or mainly city driving? Sorry for all the questions, it's just nice to hear from someone that actually owns one ☺️
Bec Peterson i drive penrith to eastern creek and back 5 times week using great western highway+town driving weekend. I find the stop start is not great especially with the dual clutch and 1.0 3 cyl from a standing start, its not a refind experience
But with it off its great. Let me just say the car is awesome for the price, and the aeb has maybe saved me already lol

Thanks for posting the horsepower numbers, the NM don't mean much to us here in North America. I must confess, I'm having a time wrapping my head around a 1 Liter 3 cylinder turbo. I suppose if the car is light enough and the torque comes on early enough, it could work. They have Rios here, so it might be fun to take one for a test drive. My daily driver has a 283 hp DOHC VVT 3.6l V6, so the Rio would be interesting to try out.

Great review as always, Jenny. I was actually looking at a Kia Rio the first few months of me trying to decide my first car purchase. Sadly I live outside the city and rural roads demand higher ground clearance so I had to ditch the Rio from my list.
Ya, Kia Seltos or Hyundai Venue. I couldn't wait, so bought a Kia Cerato Sport+ which is packed with convenience features and a proven reliable drivetrain.

It it sad that the big performance cars have fake dual exhausts but the Rio has real exhausts
A 7 yr warranty is nice, and capped price the servicing may be, but it's capped at well above its competitors, so what's the point?

Why led drl was keep flashing?
Most led lights seems flickering on camera usually
LEDs pulsate, hence camera shows it as flashing. The human eye cannot see fast enough as the camera does.

Notice they don’t slow-mo the car as much as they do Jenny’s walking. It’s classic “sex sells” to keep the viewers interested, with a terrible review. It’s almost like you put the car on the show to just bash it so you could film her slow motion sunset walking in heels and jeans. Jenny, this was not an objective review. As someone who has watched thousands of car review videos dating back to the late 80’s, this could be the poorest car review I’ve ever seen.

Yeah true I have a 2013 Kia Rio sx 6spd manual push button it’s electronic blue but I am not going to trade it in for the 2020 Kia Rio cause since in the USA the new Rio is just plain boring
