    In this video, we look at the KIA Rio GT-Line S. One of KIA's best selling models around the globe, here in Britain it trails behind the Sportage and Picanto - but sits neatly between them. So for somebody looking at an "ordinary" car - what sets this Rio out from the rest?

    You keep mentioning 17-18 year olds! I'm 51 and I find the Kia Rio in this trim just perfect for me, the equipment level is very good, refinement is good and affordability is just right, clearly driving the most expensive cars has clouded your judgement!

    South Korean car now are like Japanese cars from the 90's. Underrated and subject to prejudice. I have driven a i30N and a GTi, and the better one is cheaper... I drove a Stinger.. OMFG better than most at twice the price

    • @Fc-cb3tn
      @Fc-cb3tn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Couldn’t agree more. Drove the i30N almost 2 years ago and I still struggle to get that thing out of my head. Plus it’s surprisingly cheap to insure for a car its caliber too.

    • @AntoniusTyas

      New GTI is a dud. Great chassis, sure, but the engine is no better than the old GTI and the interior was a disaster both in quality and ease-of-access. But it's the pricing that killed the new GTI. Way, WAY too ambitious.

    came back to watch this, as i am currently in a one week holiday rental, checked and it is a 1.0litre but in rental spec....steering and brakes somewhat numb but reliable, but as you note the engine very willing and can get things going very nicely if you hold the gears and get the revs up over 4k. feels very solid and does the job for daily driving with enough for some spirited driving when you feel like.

    Handsome little car this. I worked for Kia briefly about two decades ago, and to see the quality of the cars from then to now is extremely impressive. Just did a camping trip and it held a LOT. Also, it shouldn't be considered a sub-compact because if really doesn't look like one. It's not tiny looking. It's such a great litle car and just like a big go-kart! You can really fling it into corners and blast out the other side at full noise. The DCT is a bit dopey in Auto mode, but flick it into manual and it's just a hoot to drive!

The best car is the one you can jump in now to go to the shops, the car that can handle any journey in reasonable comfort and still put a smile on your face. For many people one car has to be able to do it all (hence why the Golf GTi was always so popular).

    It's NOT really a hybrid, it just uses the marketing term "MILD hybrid", that's completely different. For the same price people can buy a much better REAL hybrid like the Toyota Yaris hybrid or the even better Honda Jazz hybrid. And for people who want something less expensive the Suzuki Swift (also a mild hybrid like the Kia) makes more sense, it costs less than the Kia and gets better fuel economy too.

    My son is 14 and is thinking of saving to buy a car when he is 17. I hadn't even considered the possibility of something like this as his first car - even on finance I don't see how he would be able to afford it if he is still at school and only working part time. Maybe I am completely out of touch with current car buying trends but it seems like something that you would buy after a few years of driving rather than your first car.

      Manuals as well as being more fun and normally cheaper,older spec autos used to be very heavy which in turn meant blunted performance & poor economy in relation to a manual.Plus they are heavy on the front brakes,as you are trying to slow whilst the gearbox is still trying to push you forward.Newer generation autos 6 speeds and upwards seem to be a big improvement though!!
