So great that you give a bit of a chemistry lesson during the process. Knowing why a certain step should be taken makes me pay more attention to the process. Cake looks yummy.

Consider them doing more gifting. Causes less nibbles and makes many friends.
We share with teachers, emergency services and of course our dentist staff.

If you run out of people to gift (probably won't happen), you can also look up those "dessert for one" recipes where you're using half an egg or something to make one cupcake. And then the whole family can share that

Find old Alton Brown Good Eats video's. My youngest, who is now 24, grew up watching him. It mixes science in cooking/baking methods. She has been cooking since she was 10 on her own, obviously when her dad or I were home or her older siblings. The science method in the cooking/baking sparks further interests.

I share my baked goods with yet older neighbors who have a hard time doing simple tasks. They also want small portions, so it helps all around. They sure watch over the gardens of berries and fruit trees now.

We used to dunk pound cake into milk and eat it. This was a recalled memory once you said you didn't need any butter on it. I went from that to "why would you need butter?" to "dip it in milk!"

Thank you for sharing this recipe! I love pound cake! Actually the historic recipes are not so dense as you might expect without baking powder. In fact, they would always use a copper bowl to whisk the eggs before adding them to the batter. The eggs and copper react together, which gives the cake a natural raising agent. This was so well known back then, that it's not mentioned in the old recipes. But it does work! 😀

Just put your pound care in the oven moments ago..., thanks for all the details. Sweetened raspberries and fresh whipped cream will go on-top. The only difference is I am using raw sugar, so some extra mixing was needed on the wet ingredients. But the finished batter looked awesome. Very fluffy. Hopefully the finished product holds up with that change.

When my mother in law would bake pound cake, she would make a lemon drip topping for it and drizzle it over the top. Once the topping set, she would serve the cake. That topping made the pound cake so good, especially when she used lemon juice in it to make it a lemon pound cake.

I used a pound cake base to create a cassata. This Italian cake is 3 layers of cake, filled with cannoli cream in between layers and frosted with milk chocolate butter cream frosting. Decorate according to occasion you are celebrating. For instance, at Christmas, I decorate it like a Yule log. Or bake it in a bundt pan and decorate as I wreath. Easter, birthdays, even a pumpkin at thanksgiving. The cake is refrigerated and the cannoli filling adds a light creamy sweet component that elevates the simplicity of the pound cake. Yummy stuff!

I hope you can answer a question (although looking a the subscriber count maybe not), but I am wondering what is the weight of eggs in the US? 4 eggs can be anywhere from 200 to 280 g, and my pound cake, although not a bad one (taste was pretty good), felt a bit too moist and dense, and took an hour to bake, and once cooled is a bit bricky. Now, I know that ovens are not all the same, but I did have a thermometer in the oven that read 170-180C during baking. My eggs weighed 240 g. Can you comment on why you chose to deviate from the standard equal weights for each ingredient formula (1:1:1:1)? Thanks in advance if you doo see the comment.
By the last sentence, I mean that the cake seems to have a lot more moisture than the standard pound cake formula, with the sour cream and eggs. I'll do both and compare anyway!

I made it too and it took over an hour to bake. Not sure what happened but it didn’t turn out all that great for me. I followed the recipe to a tee, but it turned out very heavy and kind of greasy, or oily. Almost as through there was too much butter. Not sure. I’ll try again.

Same here. It took a lot longer to bake. It still seemed wet on the bottom when I took it out of the pan and greasy tasting. I think the sour cream is part of the reason it was so awful. I didn’t like the taste at all! 🤮 I also followed the recipe to a tee. A lot of time and waste of ingredients. It ended up in the garbage.

£cake is my fav, I remember backin the 80's I was newly married & my sister in law used to make bundt cake, I think sugar flour and 6 eggs. I need a mixer since the last one broke. I will make this soon and let you know how it turned out

I'd dump the mixer altogether. We always add 1/8 to 1/4 tsp nutmeg -- amazing!! Great with sliced strawberries & sugar, in their own syrup then & made 1 hr. before serving, + slightly sweetened whipped cream. Also, at Xmas, red maraschino cherries, + maybe green ones too, put them in whole, dusted with flour 1st so they don't all sink to the bottom -- stir in gently -- makes the best cherry cake!!! And with lemon zest & a lot of lemon sugar glaze on top (punch holes in it 1st). Also with 1/2 to 1 cup shredded coconut, + a capful of coconut flavoring too, if you want. It's so versatile!! I imagine baked with blueberries would be great too, or with apple, peaches, pears, plums, lime zest & glaze, etc. Or orange?? Why not???!!! 😸 ♥️ 🇨🇦

I've heard about grilling a slice of pound cake before you eat it in a barbecue. Never tried that but it should be good. As for the original recipe, I make it with separated eggs and reduced amounts of sugar (any other ingredient:sugar=1:0.55, by weight). Save the egg whites and half of the sugar, make the batter the normal way, make meringue, fold it in, and bake the normal way. This method has never gone wrong. Give it a try.

My mom used to give us a slice in a bowl and pour warmed milk over it and we would eat it with a spoon. This was a bed time snack.
