My grandmother's cook book has the following pound cake recipe: One pound of flour, wheat or rye preferred but mixed with corn passable, one pound of molasses or cane sugar, one pound of butter, goat or beeve, three duck or six hen eggs whole, with a pinch of salt and a dram of local taste. Oven heated to singe a hair and bake until clean straw. We still make it at least once a month.
Made this recipe for a New Years Eve treat, and it tastes amazing! In the past, the pound cakes I baked were dense.. this time it was fluffy, buttery with subtle lemon flavour. With John's easy to follow recipes, and quality tips, baking like a pro!
Lemon pound cake is my favorite cake. I even use the recipe for making birthday cakes. I always add lemon zest together with sugar to the already creamed butter and whip it for another 4-5 minutes on medium-high. I also add 2 generous tablespoons of greek yogurt or sour cream to the dough (instead of the milk). My friend who works in a bakery told me to try this method a few years ago and I've been using it since. It always comes out very lemony and moist. It makes a significant difference.

I made this gluten free and it was AMAZING! The only thing i did different other than using gluten free flour was I added 1/4C sour cream. Thanks for all the tips they really make a difference!
So... I made this lemon pound cake, John. And I made it again and again and again, until low and behold...I gained 4 lbs. Next week I'm gonna try the orange loaf. I made this for a buffet luncheon for 8 guests and it was a great success. I did bake it in a tube pan, and it was done in about 55 minutes and gave 12 generous portions. Great cake!…and so simple.

I just tried out this recipe (using 1 to 1 gluten free flour and coconut milk as substitutions) and it came out great! Anytime I need to bake something I look to see if you have a recipe first, because your recipes never let me down.
So, so good!! And easy! My 8 and almost 6 year old daughters made this start to finish almost entirely by themselves. I had to help scrape down the bowl but otherwise it was all them. We will be saving this to make again!
Yes John you are absolutely right. Drizzle cake is a British cake and and we drizzle the sugar and lemon while the cake is still warm. Today l will try your version to compare the two.
I've tried a few different pound cake recipes from the internet and decided to try this one. I like it, it came out well, but I couldn't resist adding a little vanilla to the batter and I had buttermilk to use up so I added that instead of milk. It's a very pleasant tasting cake and I will definitely 'file' this one to keep using. Well done, John!

Love this bro. A lot of pound cakes are very dense which is how it originally was created. I like the fact that u are making a light and airy cake which is honestly what I prefer, expect for chocolate where I like chocolate goods to be a tad dense and very fudgy

Thank you for the recipe as always. I‘ve baked it for 1h and in the end it looked good, I did a toothpick test… But when we tried it, it was a bit raw inside. I would say, extra 15 minutes would help. No idea what went wrong, before I tried you key lime pie recipe and it was 100% success, no extra minute was required. Also I expected more lemons

Have you ever considered buying the paddle attachment that scrapes the bowl for you? This recipe looks great. My wife is Greek and I've been to Greece many times. Remarkable people and country. Passing through a lemon grove is quite fragrant.
He didn't answer the question of which was best for baking. IT DOESN'T MATTER which you use. They are all NaCl: sodium chloride. The only difference is the size and shape of the crystals. If you mix them into a recipe with liquid THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN THE RESULT if you put in the same amount by weight. The salt dissolves. The only time you might want to use a different crystal size is if you put it on top of something and it isn't going to dissolve and you want it to look different.

I made the Lemon cake today and it came out unbelievable the only thing that I did extra was I put blueberries in and on the top I put Turbinado... it came out amazing!!!😊😊😊
Delicious!! I ran out of plain flour so I had to use half almond and it still worked. Next time I am going to make double the frosting and put half while it’s warm and half once it’s cooled so it absorbs a bit. Also recommend more zest in the batter.

Tried this recipe with high hopes. Living in Colorado creates its own challenges when baking. Like you, I love anything baked with lemons. This is a great recipe but needs a bit of tweaking to get the desired results. I think this would work better for 2 loaves. For those of us who live at high altitude & love to bake, good luck.
I'm Mexican American and I would say love of lemons comes from this. Both of my daughters and I love putting lemon juice on everything. My husband is of Norwegian decent, sorry no Greek on either side. More likely it just shows great taste.

@@nicolitae hi! I just used the standard size like the bottom was 5X9 and and the top was close to 6x9. I baked it for 65 minutes. Too long bcz it got a tad darker. It was my dumb pan most likely. I will cut back baking time next cake. Yum!

Taste test! OMG, it's delicious. 10/10. We were worried the bread might be too dense - because we overmixed it a ton, it looked super creamy and voluminous in consistency and it actually doubled its size so we were able to bake two loafs - but it is such a light, fluffy, crumbly texture that is packed with lemon flavor and so amazing. You're the best, John!
Lemon drizzle cakes have a lemon sugar syrup poured over immediately after baked. Then when cooled the icing drizzle is placed on top. This pound cake looks delicious!!! Thank you!!!!

CANT WAIT to make this. My mom makes a great pound cake but she thinks it's not good enough to give me the recipe. She puts a lot of Jamaican rum into it its the pound cake I grew up on. I cant wait to try this one. Our daughter loves lemon so she will love this too!

Tried this recipe with high hopes. Living in Colorado creates its own challenges when baking. Like you, I love anything baked with lemons. This is a great recipe but needs a bit of tweaking to get the desired results. I think this would work better for 2 loaves. For those of us who live at high altitude & love to bake, good luck.
I used to visit my Aunt in San Diego & I loved going out to pick lemons.

I'm Mexican American and I would say love of lemons comes from this. Both of my daughters and I love putting lemon juice on everything. My husband is of Norwegian decent, sorry no Greek on either side. More likely it just shows great taste.

What size pan did you use? I have a cake can of 7" an im a bit unsure to use that or my bigger cake can
@@nicolitae hi! I just used the standard size like the bottom was 5X9 and and the top was close to 6x9. I baked it for 65 minutes. Too long bcz it got a tad darker. It was my dumb pan most likely. I will cut back baking time next cake. Yum!
Made this today morning and I just cant seem to stop eating it thankyou for this recipe but the glaze didnt turn out good ended up throwing it away but the cake is so yum 😋 😍

Just made the drizzle, tastes great even though we used an old lemon for this but it worked! Taste test coming up.
Taste test! OMG, it's delicious. 10/10. We were worried the bread might be too dense - because we overmixed it a ton, it looked super creamy and voluminous in consistency and it actually doubled its size so we were able to bake two loafs - but it is such a light, fluffy, crumbly texture that is packed with lemon flavor and so amazing. You're the best, John!

Lemon drizzle cakes have a lemon sugar syrup poured over immediately after baked. Then when cooled the icing drizzle is placed on top. This pound cake looks delicious!!! Thank you!!!!
