I do own Eternal Punishment on PSN on my Japan Account. But I still debating do I get Innocent Sin (Tsumi) on digital front or phys. Since it does have the free dlc for Japan copy. Ofc. Which it seems to me either way- due to this speedrun strat. I plan to if able- do casually. It might be beneficial to the Eternal Punishment Data Transfer on PSP! 😃
Crazy how no one thought of this when a game as old as Quest 64 has this EXP spam exploit. Feels like gatekeeping pretending to be an idk. Real ACE exploit for Persona 2 will be the thing that makes me thing yeah this game is broken
I cannot express how happy I am to see developments in the P2 speedrun. As a big fan of both Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment, its heartwarming to see how the community for these games is still somewhat active.
It's such a tragedy that the west never got Eternal Punishment PSP. Playing Innocent Sin PSP and then trying to go back to EP PSX was really rough. I wonder if the fan translation is out yet.
@@velvetbutterfly Oh, I'll have to check it out soon. I need more games to delay me from getting back to my first disastrous blind Minstrel Song playthrough lol. Thanks for letting me know!

Honestly surprised to see a video made on this, I thought this was a super niche speedgame but I'm glad you made this video. I remember using this glitch to absolutely destroy my first playthrough of Innocent Sin.
Play it. I went through a playthrough back when Marsh was talking about playing the game, and it was amazing. Literally the only negative I can say is that it doesn't really feel like a Megami Tensei game after awhile. It's probably the art that does that.
It's actually really easy to do. Either set up your video cam and write an essay or let's play or find some speed running glitch and this man will talk about it!

Totally agree, I hope the rumors are true and Atlus is working on remakes so they get more appreciation. I love 3 and 4, but they and 5 shouldn't be the ONLY games in the series that the fanbase cares about.
While I have no interest in doing speedruns myself, I do indeed own Innocent Sin on console. So it’s pretty cool knowing I could theoretically beef up my exp gains.
Maybe it will see use in TAS? I mean, even without a timesave ceiling to other strats for this to break.... Anyway, interesting analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
since the possibility wasn't even mentioned in this video, i'm guessing RNG manip for EP isn't on the table? because if you could get a consistent setup for rolling the hotei mutation, it may save a bit of time. then again, that would still leave the problem of persona ranks, which i remember being really slow... though i was playing on ps1, so maybe it isn't as bad on PSP. either way, it's cool that IS can catch up to its big sister maya!
I don't believe anyone has looked into the RNG for EP PSP. Considering how complex modern games are with RNG values, it wouldn't be surprising if there were multiple values rolling every frame based on specific criteria. I am just speculating here, so you may be better off talking to folks in the SMT speedrunning community and getting their thoughts as well!
@@DoctorSwellman i'll have to look into it! i know other games in the same era of handhelds (mainly the DS) have gotten RNG down to a science, but maybe nintendo was just lagging behind on making theirs more random lmao
Interesting thing though is, the currently only looking at easy right now as far as the game goes. Yes I know most people aren't likely to run on higher difficulties come up with something like this would definitely speed up those type of speed runs for those that want to do them alongside any other things that are changed while playing at a higher difficulty. As I know Persona games are known to have some things that are different based on what difficulty you're playing it's not just the enemies are stronger / you do less damage / get less exp or money.
SummoningSalt gonna create a 30min++(maybe an hour) story out of this Persona 2 speedrunning in about 1 - 2 years, when speedrunners have lowered the world record tremendously. 😆
I wonder if the exp funnel is even the best idea when you can 2-3x or much more exp off a boss. In some cases it helps for estoma but having a full party with similar levels of pre glitch MC, I wonder if their increases is enough to mow through bosses faster over funneling every time. Probably not, but always neat to see things like this open up possibilities.
I have no interest in speedrunning the game, but like you said, that glitch is still going to make a casual playthrough pretty fun. It's also really weird and funny just thinking about how it works. It's like if a vending machine messed up and gave more stuff than it was supposed to or something.
""Outsider makes game-breaking discovery" is my favorite speedrunning niche. Somewhat joking aside, wonder if it works on the PSP version of P1. I should test it
Weird that this video didnt show up in my sub box. I got the post announcing it was upcoming then another one after it was out, but i only found it through the link. The vid still isnt in my sub box
The fact that it doesn't work on the original PSX games but it does work on the PSP across multiple games makes me wonder what is different and if it's different BECAUSE of the hardware. If so, then this could lead to other finds in other PSP games, or at least other PSP Ports by the same team using whatever shortcut caused this glitch.
Does Adrenaline on Vita count as emulating? I'm not really sure how that works, but I guess it's not any more customizable (overclocking, etc.) than a regular PSP other than controls
