1. Principle Hanya doesn't necessarily survive jumping out of the clock tower - I believe there's a rumour you need to spread to allow him to survive, otherwise he doesn't appear in the final chapter. 2. I believe Yukino isn't guaranteed to stay in the party after her colleague's death, so you can miss out on Durga if Yukino refuses to leave her wannabe lover's body behind. 3. Regarding father issues, the over overcoming of paternal figures is the most primal Jungian archetype...
Actually, regarding Hanya, he supposedly did survive, but if you spread the rumor that he didn't then some students will comment on them seeing him running around only for him to then drop dead right then and there. Those rumors are some scary shit.
Also it's funny because the personas are either greek or roman and that has strong themes(at least for the gods) of defeating the father to supplant him.
Hitler wasn’t actually the reason Innocent Sin wasn’t localized. Atlus at the time only had the time resources to localized one of the games so they chose Eternal Punishment because they felt it had a more definitive ending. The reason why Hitler was censored in the remake was actually due to a rule in the Japanese rating system that said they weren’t allowed to have real people in their games.
You are correct, there's actually an interview with Gail Salamanca out there where he states this. The Hitler rumor is very over marketed but I can understand why people would think this. Funny enough this is the exact same reason why we didn't get Eternal Punishment PSP years later; EPP was Atlus's swan song on the PSP, so by the time Atlus USA was finished with Innocent Sin PSP Atlus JP had retired it's resources working on PSP titles. Honestly it was just a case of bad timing both times, nothing elaborate like the crazy rumors in the fandom.
@@SlyStrife Yeah, plus P4G came out the same year as Eternal Punishment PSP. It's clear where the priorities were. Glad we finally got the fan translation though
Christ on the cross i was not ready for the insanity. The fact the bad guy actually wins and absolutely FUCKS UP the earth is crazy by itself. But then the game just goes "btw we have time travel so we can undo this." I feel like every major plot point makes you go "but why?" Only for the game to explain and leave you even more confused.
the way i see persona lore is that 1 and innocent sin are the original timeline in which nyarlathotep and philemon are duking it out hardcore, and then at the end of innocent sin an alternate timeline is created by philemon starting with eternal punishment. i see eternal punishment as kind of the bridge between p1 and innocent sins and 3, 4, 5 and i think philemon created yet another timeline for 3/4/5. since nyarlathotep and philemon are eternally destined to battle it out, nyarlathotep enlists various threats like nyx, izanami, and yaldabaoth to torment society but philemon loses more and more power with each timeline that is created and leaves igor to basically enlist the protagonists to fight against evil in his stead and can only appear in the 3/4/5 timeline as the blue butterfly, guiding the players to the velvet room
I don't think it's necessarily another timeline just for 3-5. It's more that Innocent Sin is off on its own separate branch, with the split point being whether or not the group met as kids. After Eternal Punishment, Philemon and Nyarlathotep are both in weakened states, so they rely on other means like you mentioned. So the two timelines are: - P1-P2IS - P1-P2EP-P3-P4-P4A-P4AU-P4D-P5-P5T-P5S Though technically there's a third timeline for the FemC route of P3P
@@critical_6164 I never said they didn't connect. It's just that Innocent Sin is explicitly a separate timeline from Eternal Punishment, and due to the events of Innocent Sin (the aforementioned universal reset), the rest of the series is in the Eternal Punishment timeline. P1 still happens in both timelines since it takes place before the branching point, but after that it's either Innocent Sin (the Masked Circle forms, the Earth stops) or Eternal Punishment (the Masked Circle never forms, time continues on for the rest of the series)
There are other links between the gmes too. Like how in all of them, rumors effecting reality is part of the plot, albeit not to Persona 2's degree. The Dark Hour, the Midnight Channel, the fact that Phantom Thieves cannot defeat a boss untill the public knows they're after their target, etc.
You are seriously the first girl I've ever seen discussing early persona or SMT. After watching so much of this content made by guys, I genuinely thought that there were no other women who were interested in and played these games as I did. Courtney you are so epic! :D
Originally because ATLUS USA is struggling to manage localization projects instead of doing the prior release they opt to localize the new one at that time
ATLUS USA was also starting to translate other Developers titles at the time too. 2000 was the first year where ATLUS USA translated 3 text heavy games released around the same time(Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, and Robopon). Also they had Both Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure and probably worked on the Localization of Maken X despite the game being published by Sega in North America and Europe. Either Innocent Sin or Eternal Punishment were going to get lost in the Shuffle.
If there's anything frustrating to come out of the disinvolvement with modern Persona from classic Persona coinciding the Devil Summoner timeline, it's the fact that to date Eternal Punishment has not gotten a remastered English dub on the PSP akin to its predecessor Innocent Sin. We've certainly gotten an English Sub, but the lack of acknowledgement can feel somewhat tedious.
making me sad because it's become very unlikely we'll see some sort of intercontinuity crossover or acknowledgement between those megaten series, now that none of the old guards work for the company anymore
13:16 For Todoroki. The reason he was a dumb detective turned smart and popular detective. Is because the character, Kyoji Kuzunoha, possessed him. He's from the original Devil Summoner. It's important that they noted he was a Devil Summoner for that very reason. The reason Kyoji is possessing him is because. Of the events of Devil Summoner 1. Where you, the MC, die along Kyoji. But your spirit is put into his body. And Kyoji is a spirit. Kyoji wants his body back but by the end. He let's the MC have his body and decides to go find another body to host
The full name of Eikichi's band is actually Gas Chamber of Love. I thought it was the song until you brought up the name, so that's something. Also, demon negotiation is nothing new. It's incredibly commonplace in mainline SMT.
While the gameplay was a bit cumbersome due to the card requirements for certain persona and the possibility to miss out on certain fusion spells due to not using skills in the correct order, I absolutely loved this game because of the bizarre plot and how it perfectly encapsulates the batshit insane nature of rumors in how shit really hits the fan when you find out nazis and ancient aliens are involved out of nowhere- like you said going from 0 to hitler real quick Edit: I wonder how the history Channel guys would react to this lol. Yasuo? Y-Yasuo??? Killed me
Also great video!
I'm 10000% sure that Revelations Persona's story makes more sense than Persona 2/2.5's story combined.
I just spent the last TWO FUCKING YEARS tweaking on the P2 duology. I beat (the absolute fuck) out of Innocent sin and then Eternal Punishment twice, both on PS1.
Took you two years? Damn, i beat Innocent sin within like 2 weeks.
