There is a difference in Margaret's pre-battle and after battle between the vanilla and Golden of the English dub. Not sure if this is the same for Japanese version (except for the last part). In vanilla, Margaret directly mentioned Elizabeth's name before and after her fight. In Golden, Margaret did not mentioned her name but refer to her as "my predecessor". In addition to Golden, some of Margaret's lines were rerecord by Karen Strassman instead of Michelle Ann Dunphey due to Michelle was already on late stage pregnancy at that time which she was unable to rerecord her lines. persona 4 on ps2 has a really good visual aesthetic even on emulator. it looks fantastic at 3x native res or higher. but i enjoy the additions to golden too much to go back. shout outs to brawler for doing god's work restoring the fog.
The fog bit is interesting. I think there was a good amount of intentionality to removing it, as you mentioned with the change to a handheld OLED screen, where there was a lot of opportunity to make the colors pop. I think we also just associate Persona 4 as being the poppy, colorful, positive game in the series. "Golden" being the subtitle also might suggest that the bright colors were a deliberate choice, and fog would get in the way of that. I think its valid to prefer either or, though. In Golden, however, it remains static, meaning you’ll have to memorize which enemies had their resistances altered, which can be tough, especially when you’re fighting mobs with the same enemies and you might not remember which enemy resistances you’ve negated.

I'm not a big fan of Marie, the missing fog effects (though that's essentially not an issue on PC with mods) and some of the extra slice-of-life scenes, but P4G is such a bigger and more fun experience that I'm able to overlook all that
Easy Answer: PS2. Better visuals, better battle theme, better intro, better voice acting for Teddie and Chie, no Marie, no horrible band event, and no endgame padding.
It has higher emphasis on social aspects than RPG elements. I wouldn't say it sucks, it's just different. I would say P4 is a better gateway into the series for someone unfamiliar with it. The pacing is better, the story is better, the characters are better.
@@harryshuman9637 I think I agree with that assessment. I really ended up disliking P3 on PS2 because of how big tartarus was (it got boring pretty quick), but I loved P4 Golden on Vita and then went on to love P5 as well.

I am playing P3 FES on PS2 emulator right now actually, heavily modded and with x5 EXP modifier, so grinding is no longer there. Biggest difference between the games is the characters. I'm in the middle of the summer In P3 FES right now and it just feels empty. There's like 3 acceptable social links, everyone else is just boring. Since experience is no longer an issue, I don't need to build social links, and I have no reason to since they are so bland. No links with SEES have been unlocked yet 4 months into the game. Your character feels very disconnected from the group, and there's nothing to do in the world otherwise. In P4G I would just keep up with the social links just to see where it's gonna go. Like that nurse character, the social link doesn't go anywhere, but those first 4 levels kept me coming back.

Original wins
Original doesn't have Nanako's Valentine's Day chocolate though.
Ps2 undub. Ps2 because it has the perfect intro and undub because is the only correct option. Also the new golden content isnt very good and I would say it has impacted how people see the characters.
Even you play with the undub, the English texts do not 100% match with the Japanese voices due to the texts are matched with the English dub.
@@player2-lightwater914 meh, once you see enough anime you can tell when the translation is taking liberties.
lol I like the dub, all the actors are actually good. Johnny Yong Basch, Yuri Lowenthal, Troy Baker, Laura Bailey, Amanda Win Lee, Tracey Rooney, Dave Wittenberg, and Anna Graves are actually good actors. They still deliver great performances to this day. (Tracy did retire tho)
@@JellyJman I couldn't care less about who voiced the characters but If you want to talk about voice actors tomokazu seki performance alone put all of the dub performances to shame
@@NOIDEDU I don’t think so
P4G all the way. Original P4 felt like such an incomplete experience and party members were so poorly balanced. I'm not a big fan of Marie, the missing fog effects (though that's essentially not an issue on PC with mods) and some of the extra slice-of-life scenes, but P4G is such a bigger and more fun experience that I'm able to overlook all that
Can we agree that P4G on PC is the best experience.
Not for me, the shit crashes constantly and has an unavoidable crash at Junes after the Mitsuo dungeon. Only game that ever crashes on my system.
I played the PS2 version the first month it came out and Golden will never recapture that atmosphere, plus Marie sucks….
There is no need for a 20min video bacause P4G has the real ending and extra content.
P5R is better but P4G is special.
Easy Answer: PS2. Better visuals, better battle theme, better intro, better voice acting for Teddie and Chie, no Marie, no horrible band event, and no endgame padding.
@@AnaverdGaiden hell no 😂
@@gabrielike1370 Care to explain why? Which versions of Persona 4 have you beaten?
P3 > than any other one
5:12 One of the many reasons p4 sucks compared to P3 and P5
It has higher emphasis on social aspects than RPG elements.
I wouldn't say it sucks, it's just different. I would say P4 is a better gateway into the series for someone unfamiliar with it. The pacing is better, the story is better, the characters are better.
@@harryshuman9637 I think I agree with that assessment. I really ended up disliking P3 on PS2 because of how big tartarus was (it got boring pretty quick), but I loved P4 Golden on Vita and then went on to love P5 as well.
@@TheColdOne I can see how it would feel like pointless dungeon crawling. I don't like grinding in general, and I also played through P4G with EXP set to high.
@@harryshuman9637where did you get the mod rom?
@@thornszk You don't modify the rom. You use a normal ISO (or a physical disc) and use a special Persona modding tool for injecting mods into it. It's all automated.
You can start with the Persona 3 FES Community Mod Pack, it includes everything. The emulator, the modding tool, the mods... then you can go from there. Just need to find the game disc.
just get the one that lets u date the lolis

@@Nickbronline It's ok bro, it's just a bunch of pixels.

What I learned from that video:
The English dub is as terrible as English anime dubs always are.
And I already know there will be many people thinking or saying I'm talking bullshit, especially the ones who first played this on PS2 and were therefore forced to play with the English dub. It's called nostalgia, so get rid of your rose tinted headphones.
You are, P4G has excellent dub. The new Chie is excellent.
yeah I played the game in Japanese VO, and had a blast, hearing clips of the english cast throws me off so much.
It's called "preference", some people enjoy English dub, some don't. No need to debate about that.
サンバルさま、それはかなりゾッとしますよ。
Americans are known for loving terrible dubs. Its quite amusing.
You gonna do a video like this for dq3?
I got Platinum on Vita version, finally 😅
I could never get that damn Hardcore Risette Fan trophy
