A real build, unlike most of these “builds” that everyone does by getting a downpipe and ots tune, topped off with some 3m ebay paddle shifters glued onto the stock ones.
If you’re open to suggestions, it would be sweet to see alcantara on the lower dash (like a 911 gt3/gts for instance) leading into the door cards (like many Audi’s have.
It’s not hard to do and the materials are inexpensive. I think it would make for some great content and leave you with a nicer interior.

After you get caught up in the mods it'd be really cool if you did a track focused episode. Maybe a few rips at the 1/4 mile and a HDPE event to get some lap times and compare to a M car!
Is he doubling the horsepower with just a flash tune? No FBO, E85 or Turbo, sounds too good to be true. Car looks completely stock. Need to see a legit drag race against an M car not just shots of him driving in the canyon. Doesn't look like it's going that fast in the video can barely keep with m340i maybe.

dude this thing has a bigger turbo, downpipe, intake, charge pipe, intake manifold (I think), e85, and a stage 3 flash tune, and probably other things, it is one hundred percent pushing 480+ hp@@abc123fhdi
That’s insane investment for mediocre return. My 2018 340i has a $300 downpipe and $450 Supra HPFP and makes 480 to the wheels on E30. Still makes about 430 on 93. Much better value if you want power. Second, it’s waaaay more reliable than this setup. I changed two parts. One just removed the cat (no effect on reliability) and one just changed the HPFP to another OEM part…

@@VehicularDIY hahaha already started, going with your recommendations to start out. Intake pipe, charge pipe and high flow air filter installed with JB+ module for now. Have a catless downpipe on the way to tune it but my DME needs a bench unlock (mar-2020), debating whether if it's worth paying for the MHD unlocker or just pay for the unlock service. Keep up the great content!

The engine is mostly identical besides the pistons. This is a common question so I think I will address it in a future dedicated video. The short answer is you can still gain a lot of power just need to target less than I went for due to the piston strength.

Please note that bmw uses very different materials for THE SAME parts in different cars. Don’t be fooled - a g80 330i can’t reliably make more power then bmw wanted it to. There is an article posted by the patent holder of all the n series and many more engines on how the materials in the different engines are a lot different from each other. The article basically says the thermal capabilities of the different materials used in different power levels (330i vs335i and so on) are a lot different from each other. NOTE: In replacement parts all the part numbers are the same because of logistical reasons it’s cheaper to only sell the most expensive parts made from the best material. Pushing engines beyond the power they were designed for makes them fail prematurely - how quick that happens depends on how often you floor it basically.
@@strryle125 I'm sorry, but this explanation makes absolutely no sense what so ever. Different material thermal capabilities on parts with the same part number. Meaning they're different only at the original assembly, but not when you buy spares. That must be an American thing, just like the S52 engine having 81 hp less in the US than in Europe due to crap fuel quality?

I'm looking to take it to a track so I can film it all. Right now I have one figure to share, low 9s/high 8s for 60 to 130. I'll be installing the upgraded intake manifold and heat exchanger and will try again.

Hey man, I dont really comment but I love what you are doing. Here in Thailand we have crazy import taxes so stuff like this is extremely important for lower model BMW’s. Since you are a great expert, I want to ask if there is any way to delete X-Drive through coding in the M340i, since we only get those models and its summer all year. Really want to buy one but I just cant force myself to drive AWD constantly. Thanks!!!
Fantastic and very interesting video. Wondering what X6 models this would have applicability to... A twin turbo V8 X6 with some "upgrades" seems like an amazing daily with likely horrific gas mileage. If only it could switch daily to a low boost v4 super eco mode.. Is that an easy coding hidden in esys?
Not that I know of but if imagine that is coming before the V8s get phased out in favor of only inline 6s.

Yeah it would require coding so you would know when it is turned on. The indicator pops up on the gauge cluster.

I think you reversed that, you need a battery supply and not a tender. Amazon has 40A and 50A supplies that are very reasonably priced. Great video on E-sys overall! A lot more to the point than other ones I've seen.
Thanks, yeah by maintainer I meant to maintain voltage aka a voltage stabilizer. They run upwards of $600. I did the flash programing on a battery charger at 25 amps.
@@VehicularDIY If you look for "ac to dc converter SMPS 12v 800w" you'll find lots of them, less than $100. They're switched power supplies for servers converted in to 12v terminals you can just connect a jumper cable to. I use it a lot for longer coding or flashing.

Hey I just got introduced to your channel. I have a 2014 328i n20 currently has 190k kms (118k miles) and my dad has a 2013 320i n20 with 290k kms (180k miles) both still on the original timing chains lol. What year did the timing chain guides get fixed from factory? I’ve read a few different things online some saying after build date march 2013 they’re good, and one saying a the n26 is when they fixed it. My dad’s is making noise now and he’s getting it replaced soon. Any way of telling they’re bad by looking at the?

Thanks, it would depend on the production date as some of the 330es came with the same B46D in my car. The transmissions are strong.
10/2019 is the cars production date , didn’t even know that this was a thing , do you know if it has the diesel trans ?
@user-fz6yv5bc5o You'd still have to read your block code- only some American ones came with the B46 but other markets came with either the B48A or B48B and only the B48B can safely reach those numbers due to a lower compression ratio and better piston design

Do you think this software can allow an xDrive car to have a rwd mode like the xDrive M3 and F90?
I’ve seen an X3M that was able to go into rwd mode through the same page that you would use on a G80/F90 with ID7 and i imagine they used the same software you did.
I’ve also seen an xDrive G20 that was coded to have 95% of the power sent to the rear, not sure what software they used.
Unfortunately there is no xDelete for the G-chassis cars and while xDrive cars (F10 and newer) are even more rear biased and can tell when you want to oversteer, it is still driving the front wheels.
That leaves me with wanting a rwd model for the lower driving losses, less weight, and full rwd experience at the expense of not having awd when i want it.
xDrive with a full rwd mode would solve half of those “issues” and give you the luxury of having both.
xHP makes transmission tunes and often software called xDelete that does just this. It’s not going to be as clean as the M3 implementation but you can change it over in about half a minute using an app.
does this work on g-series models with idrive 8? following along with a 2023 g42 230i
This is only for idrive 7 equipped vehicles. I'd imagine something similar will eventually come out for 2023+ cars.

My 330i M Sport G20 does not come with M-Sport differential. Can it be retro fitted?
Yeah it can, it's basically the same differential as a M340i. The axles are different, the 330i with the M-Sport differential actually has the same axles as a 3.0 Supra. The carrier is different than a M340i so the axles are a different length.
Could this build work on a b48 320i, it has the same compression ratio rods and cam as b58 gen 1..however i will be installing forged pistons so it matches the forged rods and cam, aswell as b58 tu pump and ipos m450 turbo?
If you wanted to just put forged pistons in you could target big power. Likely 600whp+. Stock pistons are limited to closer to 360 whp.

@@VehicularDIY also im actually surprised my model can take that much even though my cp matches the b58, cause thr 330i has slightly lower compression people online say thr 320i pistons are too weak, so the fact they can take around that much stock is great.. also i noticed all the ones that blew up online waa due to poor fuel, i only use 99 octane
I would love to see a breakdown of how much this build costs total, separated by car purchase price and then all the individual parts. Even after all the required modifications to get it to baby G80 M3 territory, I'm sure it's still a bargain.
legit just asked a near identical question and scrolled down to see this. It has to be a sizeable investment, just not sure the ballpark. Im sure I could scour each video and build a list of parts and research pricing, but I dont have the time for something like that at the moment.
@@nickmyers1762 I know he mentioned the upgrades costing around $5-8K in parts in a previous video, but I'm sure with shop labor it'll be double that. So not sure how economically viable it is to actually do if you can't do it yourself.
Still, having a B48 pull on a G80 is hilarious. I'd be willing to pay money just to get the satisfaction of doing that.

So what’s the final peak horsepower and torque estimates?
Right now its sitting at around 470 WHP and 510 WTQ. Torque was turned down from 582. The IATs are a little high so the upgraded intake manifold and heat exchanger will likely bring the HP number up a bit. I need to revisit the dyno for some 91 numbers and E50 numbers so we'll see what it makes after the upgrades.
This has to void warranty though. I can’t wait till my warranty is up.

Been following this build for the last four months or so, and I have to ask. *What has your total investment been thus far on performance parts and such in order to achieve this level of power?*
I would not be capable of doing most of the labor for the install due to lack of tools, strict budgeting practices and overall lack of mechanical education, but am extremely curious as to the up front costs for everything necessary to replicate what you have done.

seems kinda sus, channel isn't verified and this would be blowing up if real. going from 255 crank to 500+ crank without E85/FOB/Pure Turbo seems unlikely, even with all that on a 4 cylinder.

Is this a perfomance mod? Don't really see how you are going to get anywhere near M3 power.
No, it is just complimenting the performance mods I already did. This car makes 470 WHP and 510 WTQ, came from the factory with the M LSD which is the same LSD that comes in the M340i. It has an XHP Stage 3 transmission tune and an upgraded turbo plus supporting mods.
