Meds do different things to different people, especially if you compare someone who needs them vs someone who doesn't. In my case ADHD meds relax me and even make me sleepy, which is really funny considering that what I'm taking has the exact same effects as cocaine.

Sadly, benzos are very nice. It makes you feel like warm butter and nothing can perturb you. The wonderfulness wears off 10+ years into it, of course. (I have anxiety, arguably "capitalism-induced" through many means)

@@appa609 Eh, it has a relaxing effect on me. I'll have two beers after a stressful day, and that's about my limit. To each their own though :)
Also, a lot of people are actually hooked on booze. Physically and mentally. It's relatively easy to get addicted, and once you are there's an instinctual urge to drink. Also, it can be appealing to people suffering from trauma because it has a sort of deadening effect on emotional suffering, but it's self destructive because drinking almost always makes your personal situation worse, so there's more suffering, so you want to drink more, and so on.
Source: Personal experience with alcoholism, and experience with late family members who struggled with alcoholism and drug use. Also random bits of literature on addiction as well as a couple podcasts. :p
