    47:05 In Spain we literally had a conservative government write a Constitution in the 1840s because the one we had then had been written by the liberals. Both constitutions were mostly the same. We have had several constitutions, including both monarchist and republican constitutions. In fact, Spain was the first Monarchy to draft a Constitution (1812, during the Peninsular War).

    1:05:28 as a Czech resident i have to issue a little clarification. There's a general "inciting hatred" law, that prohibits from doing so against "nation, race, ethnic group, religion, class or any other group of people, limiting their freedom" the general punishment is two years in prison.
    So they have tied it into the general hate speech law, and if you say "i think that bourgies shouldn't be allowed to vote in the future ", you could be prosecuted

    i don't know about other countries, but in Russia Constitution is basically on par with toilet paper. Nobody voted for it, it's being rewritten constantly and when the owner class can't rewrite the damn thing quick enough, they just outright ignore it when it benefits them.
    In short - constitution, toilet paper - same difference

    • @P.L.U.C.K.
      @P.L.U.C.K. ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It is the same in the US, except it isn’t revised often. The amendments are frequently ignored or circumvented to the benefit of those at the levers of power.

    • @Ajente02
      @Ajente02 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's actually a famous quote said by our Dominican right-wing president in the 70s, Joaquín Balaguer: _"the Constitution is just a piece of [toilet] paper, if there are no men to defend it; what matter in every occasion are not the institutions, but the men behind them"._
      Balaguer was the puppet of Rafael L. Trujillo during his military dictatorship, so he knows a thing or two about treating constitutional rights like dead words in a piece of (toilet) paper.

    • @estacion7386
      @estacion7386 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, I'm sorry, but can you explain how is ruzzarin a marxist? He defended Salinas pliego in one of his interviews ( he almost said that rich people were victims too), he defended franco escamilla (that have a lot of anti comunist retoric on his political views and uses a lot of well known propaganda points) and went to work on one of the worst mexican TV broadcasters of all time, with only "feel good" material and a lot of "poetry". Sorry if this bother you, is not a gotcha moment, but the guy is (at least for me) very fishy.

    • @Ajente02
      @Ajente02 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@estacion7386 He's not a Marxist, and I never said he was (probably not even himself knows what is he). He mixes lots of his post-modernist readings (of Baudrillard, Foucault, and the likes) with the weird chimera of _"Gustavo Bueno's philosophical materialism"_ from Santiago Armesilla. He's a confused and ambivalent armchair leftist at best, or a weird po-mo "red-brown" sympathiser at worst.
      I'm excited to listen the episode precisely because of the possible clashes between him and the guys.

      @@Ajente02 I didn't mean to bother, thank you, I have seen a lot of people saying that the guy was Marxist, but i have no trust for him after the thing he says and do, and I have seen your coments so i tough you could clear that doubt. Again thank you.

    31:44 Studying business management on university rn and after we talked about how the ever so influential Taylor piss on his grave Frederick thought there's two types of people based on intelligence - dumb ones that do manual labour, and the super big brain ones that do mental labour, like managers obviously - one person asked the professor more or else why Taylor thought he was more important when the manual workers produced value in the first place. He responded with "That would be getting into Marxist theory and I don't want to go into that." which was a pleasant surprise but also,,, coward. Keep the class hostage for an hour more to talk about Marxism Leninism.

    On the point about "division of power", I'd honestly argue that the liberal obsession with dividing power ends up having anti-democratic effects because it results in popular will being diluted and ignored. In the history of most liberal democracies, especially the US, there's been examples of policies that were very popular with the people not getting implemented for decades due to party chicanery. Meanwhile in a more centralized democratic system, an elected leader can just implement popular policy or the state can hold a referendum. This is what happened in Cuba recently with their implementation of gay rights, they just held a referendum on it, when it passed, they implemented gay right, unlike the US which had a decades long back and forth on the state level and endless court battles.

    On the topic of constitutionalism, I think the weirdest part (in America) is that, even if you want to see the founding fathers as these wise individuals who knew what they were doing, they *made a point* of the constitution being a living document that should be altered with the times. The idea that it is this divine text from above we must abide by without alteration was antithetical to *their own* conception of what they were writing.

    Have u guys heard of/read Caliban and the Witch? It was recently recommended to me by a fellow leftist and I watched an overview of the text by Dr. Justin Sledge over at the Esoterica youtube channel before diving in. I think it lines up with this series perfectly because it attempts to describe the witch trials in Europe through a capital accumulation lens and analyzes wage slavery as a means of taking power away from the home (and thus, community at large) where hard work does not earn a wage.

    The more I listen to this podcast, the more anarchist I become. You guys have lots of important insights into liberalism, but your approach is basically reductionist and essentialist. JT says that liberty under liberalism is the "freedom" to starve if you don't subordinate yourself to the capitalist property owner. Sure, that's true. But liberty under liberalism is also the freedom to create a youtube channel advocating socialist revolution. Liberalism is BOTH of these things. How can you all fail to see this? I'm not advocating for liberalism. I'm simply saying that the liberal system that governs most of the modern world is immensely complex and varied, and it has aspects that are both positive and negative for human flourishing. It contains the seeds of its own destruction, and we are seeing it more and more begin to collapse under its internal contradictions. This whole "liberalism = bad" approach to political analysis can only serve to cover up internal contradictions in your own philosophy. I think you can do better.

      Liberalism = bad.
      They can make podcasts for communism, but they cant achieve it without getting bombed and shot by the CIA. It gives you no freedom to work towards something better. You have to fight the system in order to improve it. You have to destroy capitalism. Thats why revolutions are a thing. Also anarchism = Bad.
