I've become so much more motivated to develop my own politics and to be more politically active by reading theory, learning history, and joining a cadre organization.

I found The Deprogram thanks to Hakim, after almost 2 years of following him religiously. I didn't know Second Thought nor YUGOPNIK's channels very much, yet after the podcast started I basically became fans of all of them. My favourite episodes are the ones when you talk about basic theory, history from socialist countries (as well as the guest episodes, obviously!): the two episodes about criticisms to real socialism were absolute bangers (as well as the Macleod episodes and the Luna Oi episode).
I'll still be waiting for the Paul Cockshott, Marxist Paul, AzureScapegoat, and BadEmpanada episodes. Meanwhile, all I can do is to send Superchats on your monthly streams and give you all my support from the comments as always.

I have been listening since episode two and this pod has become a substancial part of my life. I learnt a lot of interesting stuff... about prostates, mainly.
When I was in school, girls had a special course for taking care of babies. My sister was given a robot baby that cried for almost no reason. It reads if the baby's head tilts back, isn't fed, and other things.. I can't remember how long she had to take care of it for, but I remember having to listen to it cry in the middle of the night.
16:00 That's interesting. I'm very deliberate in choosing my online screen names so I've always felt comfortable presenting myself as "Nusquam", for example. I spent hours looking at name lists or I used words significant to me when creating them, so they feel just as "right" as my real name.

Guys, please invite a guest from India. Socialism in India is really different and diverse, especially with the whole caste system angle. There will be a lot to learn, i promise
Anyone you could recommend? I know there are some internationally famous Marxist teachers and economists from India, as well as members of the many, many ML parties India have... but not a single one comes to mind to me as a guest.
Even if they can get someone to talk about the caste system and how it makes the class divide more permanent and embedded in our personal identities, that would be a great place to start. Even in periods of universal high growth, a majority were completely deprived of the benefits because of the caste system. That is why the middle class in India is really tiny. And the caste system has followed people all the way to the silicon valley.
At least common Americans feel they deserve better even if they blame thew wrong people. A majority of Indian are just resigned to their fate and don't even consider the possibility that they might deserve better
And this majority is not on the internet posting comments in English so there is no representation of their voices at all. The only ones you can hear are activists that speak on their behalf

The Hispanic/Latio thing is to tell if you're "actually" white. It's pretty old and I don't exactly know how it can effect you in any way but it's just an old thing that was used to tell if you were white, since Hispanic/Latio is classified as white, but not actually considered white.
I was going to say basically this. "White Hispanic" or "white non Hispanic" but never black Hispanic or non Hispanic. I wonder why...

They separate the hispanic ethnicity because anyone can be hispanic or latino regardless of their race. The US artificially keeps the white population in the majority by not acknowledging the most common race for hispanics which is mestizo, instead any brown or light skin brown latino has to choose white because there is no mestizo option, however anyone from an actual white person to a black person can be latino/hispanic based on their heritage and first language.
To maintain anonymity while doing a video streaming you can do with the same tecnology as the vtubers

Kind of a silly suggestion, and probably unrealistic cause it can be very expensive and finicky but you could make Vtuber-esque models for Yugopnik and Hakim since they prefer to remain not public facing. I think it would be great content by adding that layer of animation, in the literal sense, to the podcast since we'd have a scuffed red Lenin and a Slavic caricature bumbling across the screen with a some white guy. I don't know, the logistics maybe annoying but it's something y'all could defintely do as the podcast resources grows and I'd hope you consider.

The idea behind Latino/Hispanic on US demographic forms is that it's considered an ethnicity and not a race. One can be white and hispanic (like most people from Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay), black and hispanic (common in countries like Cuba and the Domninican Republic), and even Asian and Hispanic (there is a notable community of Peruvians of Japanese heritage, for example).
Most people in the US' image of Latino is something like that of a Mestizo Mexican, some one of both Native and Spanish ancestry, but this is conflating race and ethnicity. While they are certainly Latino by ethnicity, they are not a racial category for US census/demographic purposes.

everyone who could check that box could also check any of the other boxes, and for public health research there's pretty drastically different incomes, neighborhoods, professions, and health risks for ppl who check, for example, white but not hispanic, White+hispanic, Black+hispanic, Black but not hispanic.
The political economy of who gets a checkbox and why, and why the hispanic one exists would be an entire episode, and then there would be an entire other episode for the native/pacific islander box, but that's the short version

AFAIK, it's actually to distinguish Hispanic/Latinxs from any other non-Hispanic/Latinx national origins in the US (as they are the most numerous foreign population in the country). Some people don't seem to consider that Hispanic/Latinx people can also be White, African-American, or Native-American (because "Hispanic/Latinx" doesn't refer to ethnicity, but to cultural/national origin).

Hispanic/Latino isn't considered a race by the United States but an ethnicity to describe someone from Latin America, so you can be white black native etc and also check Hispanic/Latino
