UPGRADING MY MK2 ESCORT FRONT BRAKES *ROLLING AGAIN!*

In this video I continue the rebuild of my Mk2 Escort by tackling the front wheel bearings and brakes. Lots of you recommended a brake kit from Gs classic fords on Facebook, so I got in contact with them and purchased a set! The brake kit came with everything; discs, pads, callipers, hardware & more. This made the installation run smoothly and the end result on the Escort, looks insane.
I also managed to get the Mk2 Escort back on the ground and I wacked on some banded steels I recently purchased. I also managed to dust off the escort as the o/s of the car is very hard to get to and it was still covered in underseal dust! It's fair to say that rolling the escort out of the garage has spurred me on and encouraged me massively to get this out on the roads this summer.
Next up, brake servo/master cylinder rebuild and run the copper brake lines!

We called those wheels “Ford sports” back in the day. They look great banded. Get them refurbished silver with the black windows and fit the RS centre caps👌🏻

Looking spot on mate. If you want to get your break pipes perfectly straight before bending into shape, find a smooth floor and roll them straight under a flat piece plank of wood. Hope you understand what I mean. It has worked for me time and time again. 👍

when i was a lad, you had to rake around scrap-yards for austin princess callipers...
did you clean up the stub axle where the grease seal sits?
tyres look small, 205 60 13 was de rigour in the day...
bearing washer just needs to cover the centre [fixed] part, the rest is just to keep muck out. easiest way to set up the end-float is to spin the wheel, braying the rim with a rubber hammer at same time [to settle the new bearings] then adjust until there is just a little play [top to bottom] DO NOT run with no play, it will kill them. don't forget the grease caps need to back go on
somewhere on fleabay they were selling the little stick-on black squares for those wheels, beats painting those 32 squares by hand [like we had to]

Thank you for the advice when it comes to adjusting up the play! I did clean the stub axles up thoroughly with my wire wheel on a drill but as you can see on the video the bearings/hub still needed the slightest tap on 👍🏻 I haven’t decided on tyres sizes yet so that will be something to look into!

Just spent the last week on all the Mk2 Escort progress it’s come so much even with all the ups and downs… nice to see light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully see it soon at the shows 🙌🏼

When you rolled that out it took me back, my first mk2, wayyyyy back in 93, was a goldcrest, lowered alloys, vinyl roof, but bronze... looks wicked.

It was Austin princess calipers in my day rebuilding them with a spacer kit and capri 2.8 discs
It’s coming along good the Haynes book should give you brake line info if not the internet.

Looking good mate and coming along nicely 👌🏽 I would have used a type specific (alloy) for the thread lock as you've put bearing lock on you might struggle or strip the threads when removing the bolts for the discs.
I see, wasn’t aware there is a different thread lock for alloy 👍🏻 Guess I’ll soon find out when I need to change a part 😅

I watched all your video's Mitch and the escort is coming along amazing,just one question why a four door would a two door not be worth more when or if you sell it,i always though a two door was more desirable but that's just me.
Hi mate, glad you enjoy the videos! 2 door escorts will always be more desirable and worth more but you need deep pockets for even a shell! In my case I really like the more door models too, so was a cheaper alternative and it’s also my dream car so a win win! Not looking to sell it after the restoration so not fussed about how much it’s worth 👌🏻
well done Mate, you could do with some backing shield on those front discs as they will pick up all the dirt, and you will need larger washers on the hub bearings, ps I did not see the dust caps ?
Thank you, I will be purchasing those backing plates & bigger washers for sure! The caps never went on as the hub nuts will need adjusting and tightening later down the line 👍🏻

How do you torque those hub nuts? Looks like you would need a cutout in the socket?
Yes I assume I’d need one of them! But these are roller bearings and normally adjusted up by play rather than a torque setting 👍🏻
How much was that brake kit ? Does look rather lush 😍 my more door beige escort needs some I think !

take the outer bearings back out clean the stub axel as tapping the bears on as they warm up the bearing will seize to stub axel
I thoroughly cleaned the stub axles with s wire wheel on the drill before fitting the bearings. They only needed the slightest of taps to get them home 👍🏻
