    The 10D was the first digital camera I bought when moving from film to digital. Some of my most favorite images I have ever created were with this camera. I still have this camera, and it still works! I feel like it produces better images than my more modern cameras.

    This Canon has one of the best color science available .Very natural colours. Interesting it has CMOS sensor,not CCD,but still great colour rendition.

    Never had the chance to try this iconic 10d. The 40d is one of my all time favorite cameras and a steal nowadays. Really good colors, easy to edit 14bit raws, and with a good lens amazing details even on a 10.1 sensor. 6.5 fps is also quite fast. The good old times!

    Good video.I recently picked up a 10D body for $30. This camera takes excellent photos. Was surprised to find that my EFS lenses wouldn't fit. Luckily I have used EF lenses on most of my digital Canons because of the "sweet spot" I get from the full frame lenses, and always have several on hand. Perfect walking around camera for cheap.

    I am constantly amazed by the knock-down price of these amazing items of technology compared to that upon release; they don't seem to deteriorate with age (unlike myself!). I've never really explored Canon. My older camera love hasn't reached that far although, admittedly, I am being pulled very strongly towards a 5D Classic. However, I've no decent Canon-fit glass so I'm hoping that will curtail my curiosity! Thanks Steve

      Thanks Cliff! By the way, we’re we talking about the 5D Classic recently or was I just thinking about that camera? Either way, if you do ever consider an older Canon camera, I would definitely go for the 5D Classic. It’s definitely one of my favorites.

    It was my first digital camera, and I shot at hundreds of commercial photos with it. I would occasionally rent a high end Canon for some special gigs, but I did covers and double-trucks with this camera. Solid as hell. I gave it away, now I regret that decision.

    Still have my 2003 10D and just took some pictures today with the nifty fifty. But as a long time user, I would say it is a slow to operate camera. For $20-$50 more getting a 30D, 40D, or Nikon D200, D300 would be a better value.

      I picked up a 30d for £55 recently after a bit of shopping around. Can take some beautiful photos with it. For me, someone who is learning its great. Only thing I would say is its huge and heavy. My girlfriend struggles with it a little due to the weight.

    Back in early 2004 I was very keen on getting the 10D until the D70 was announced. Downpoints of 10D that I still remember were - slow ON time, "smoke and mirror" instead of a pentaprism. When D70 hit the street those two cameras were about "equals" in the marketplace in terms of price and tech level. I bought the D70 at the time, but will eventually get the 10D just to get it out/in of the system. Great video Steven.

      Thanks and I think like that too! Sometimes I just have to go ahead and try something because I’ve been thinking about it for so long. The 10D definitely doesn’t disappoint!

    I recently bought a good looking 2-hand 10d. Surprised by the quality build of the camera and the output. After using a Nikon D1x as another relic. I must admit that the colour output of the 10D is very nice. Well balanced colours, beatiful green, warm colours. I hope to do some pictures of my girlfriend this weekend and I am looking forward to the results. Now I just need a good 17-40L for this camera.

    Great video! I have started revisit old cameras as well in the last few years. There are a lot of nice cameras available, both digital and film, that can be had for ridiculous little money.
    This spring I’ve picked up a close to mint Eos 3 with a 28-135 for less than $120. Also two 1D Mk.IIN for $300 for the pair. One of them had less than 10k actuations. There are lots of great deals to be found. People are almost giving away pro stuff, just because they aren’t digital or have more Mpix than their phones. Keep up the good work!

    • @steve_heise
      @steve_heise  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks and that’s such a great point. The original 1D series cameras are selling so cheap right now. I got my 1DS for $200. I mean, it’s just crazy to think of professional full frame cameras selling for those kinds of prices.

    Great video as always! I feel back in time as I owned it in...I think it was 2006. Great camera, awesome IQ, nice colors. It was my second dslr after the D60. Build quality was way better! Had a lot of fun with it. 👍

    Cool! You have revived my interest in my old 10D I used back in the day for everything from weddings to product photography at work to family photos, etc. It is still a great camera and I am re-learning and using it again. Thanks for the review.

    I have the 10D also, got it back when it came out with the Canon 28-200 3.5-5.6 lens that I can't find for the life of me. Must have loaned it out years ago. Anyhow, now that it's 2023, I thought about doing a comparison video of the 10D vs the R6 Mark II that I just picked up. I gut tells me that I'll like the color science of the 10D more, but I could just be misremembering how good or bad the picture quality is of the 10D.

    This would probably be good for someone who already had one or more older EF lenses in the 28-50mm range. Good point about not being able to use EF-S lenses too.

    • @steve_heise
      @steve_heise  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely! When I do these old Canon APSC reviews, my usual go-to lens is the EF-S 17-55mm f2.8. I was so bummed when I went to start this video and remembered this camera was EF only. Lol

    I have one of those cameras and another more modern one..for some reason whenever I decide to use the Canon 10D .. I take more photos and I enjoy doing so. Slow buffer and slow card writing but I am not complaining at all .. it was super awesome when it came out and it still is.

    Any chance on grabbing the legendary Nikon D700 for an overview? Images made from its glorious full frame 12 megapixel sensor is unlike anything else. I still use mine regularly for the unique color and rendition that this camera can produce.

  • @minnemon110

    Huh why do you cant you use EF-S lenses on this camera? Is the mirror to close or why exactly?

    • @fepatton
      @fepatton ปีที่แล้ว

      EF-S mount lenses physically won’t fit in the camera’s mount. This prevents you mounting a lens designed to cover only APS-C on a full frame and get a bunch of cropping. (Some _Nikons_ however recognize that an APS-C lens is mounted and automatically crop. I think that’s pretty cool!)

    All thees old cameras are good enough for starting any kind of portrait business. My guess 8x10 are fine and 11x14 are also good and 16x20 I would not push it anymore.
    If I had to start over I buy these old cameras and start a photography business. If I start making good money then I'll buy better gear.
    If you're skilled you can do a wedding with these old cameras but I rather use something newer because weddings can be stressful.
