    It's so old, the successor D40 turned into a Nikon

    It's amazing what you can get from 3 MegaP - I bought a Canon G1 in 2000 and managed to print A3 prints which looked a little messy close up but from a couple of feet definitely looked ok. One A3 print has been on wall in the dining room for 20 years and people often think it's a commercial print!

    I bought the D30 when it was first released and used it for professional work, primarily wedding photography. AF was slow but color and image quality was amazingly good for the period. After about 2 years it became my backup to 1D series cameras. I now shoot Sony A7 series but still have the D30 to remind me of my first venture into digital photography!

    Unbelieavable. 3.1 mp , 22 year old camera, in the right hands of an artist can amaze and be of great value than a modern eos r5 in a consumer hands

    Great video!
    As a musician who just started with photography.
    There is one comparison that always comes to my mind.
    Listen to old Hendrix or Beatles records or you name them.
    They kill most bands in sound today.
    It is the motive/melody that makes art, not the thing that records it in the first place.

    My first DSLR was the Canon 550D/T2i, until then I shot film. That camera has 18mp and 1080p HD video. In most circumstances it would be difficult to tell apart from a modern 24 megapixel camera, and is available for not much more than older DSLRs like the D30. I appreciate this may be missing the point of trying early DSLRs as talking points, but as photographic tools the 2010-2012 era cameras are very useable today.

    My first digital was the D60. Think I paid 200 for it. Exposure for it was suspect at times. Autofocus not very good at least compared to my film Rebel camera. Got a 30D and I loved that camera. Finally got a 5dm2 but soon had problems and traded up to 5dm3. Now running an R8.

    Steven, I like your videos that is why i watch so many of them. You always seem to find them worth it at the end 🙂

    Fun Fact!
    In the early 2000's a Canon EOS D30 was handed to me for a few weeks and I shot a wedding with this 3MP gem . 😎

    I bought one last week. Amazing camera although the image quality suffers from having a blue cast over them. I believe this is normal for this camera and the effect can easily be corrected in either post (RAW) or GIMP or PhotoShop (JPG). After correction the images definitely have something special, almost an analogue look, I love it.

    Nice review! I think $50 is about right because old cameras & lenses can start having mechanical/electrical problems. For example an old kit lens can have problems with the aperture blades sticking or the aperture lead cable either breaking or being faulty. And while you can buy new aperture lead cables of under $20 replacing those on a lens can be a real mission. At least with a dslr you can try another lens though.

    Beautiful CCD colours. Well worth it.

      Canon didn't make CCD sensors. It's CMOS.

    Just by the sample pictures that you take with each of these bargain cameras, I undoubtlebly believe that genuinely 90 percent of people would be very please with the image quality that comes from these types of cameras even today. FPS, auto focus points. megapixel counts, buffer speed, memory card slots and so forth are only beneficial to pro level photographers with specific needs.

    Nice review, thank you. I haven't seen a review of the D30 in years. I own 2 of them, one with the extended battery grip. For posting to the web they are more than sufficient. I also use a 4x6 printer and the D30 makes excellent prints for family and friends.

      It's impressive that this 22 year old, 3.1 megapixel camera is still relevant. I have opted for a slightly newer Canon 30d but still it's hard to justify dropping thousands on new gear when you can get awesome photos with a 20 year old camera.

    Hey steven, i was wondering if you could review the Canon D60 (not 60D)...i just bought an D60 and it has wonderful filmic colours, improved dynamic range and film like grain. I picked it up for around 80 bucks and i believe it's goin up in price. It would be a cool camera to collect tho...

    • @imnguyen6658
      @imnguyen6658 ปีที่แล้ว

      d60 has a cmos sensor so, will not likely be as special as the d30.

    • @zzstrone1354
      @zzstrone1354 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@imnguyen6658 Well so does the D30. Canon's D30 came with an Cmos sensor. The only canon dslr with an ccd was the canon eos 1ds.

    • @imnguyen6658
      @imnguyen6658 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zzstrone1354 you are correct. I too, thought it might have been the original 1d and not 1ds with the ccd, but have not verified.

    Hi Steven I have 400mm Sigma lens and the Canon Eos 630 or My OG Rebel. The Sigma will not work on My T3i. Canon no longer offers to mod 3rd party lens. Will a D30 work? The 20+ Eos lenes work fine on T3i.

    hey Steven, ive been watching your videos on allll different kinds of cameras. i really want to start making vlog and eventually travel videos, but i have no clue what is best for me. i dont need anything fancy and would like something in a low price range. i dont know anything about cameras, but id prefer something smaller, with a good auto focus and decent recording time. what do you reccomend out of all of the ones youve tried?

    • @oliviacompas
      @oliviacompas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Travis Shore Gosh, ive thought about using my phone, but i have no space. maybe 400-500?

      @oliviacompas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Travis Shore i plan on starting out with vlog type stuff, but eventually i would love to do travel videos! ill look into those suggestions for sure though, i honestly know nothing about cameras and gear, but im hoping to slowly gain more knowledge. i appreciate the suggestions and input!!
